That was a beautiful tribute and video, Stefan. Having 18000 hours in helicopters (commercially) over 46 years, I can certainly appreciate what it took Gavin to reach the 10000 hour level in gliders (for goodness sake!). The experience he has I would doubt is matched by very many. It's wonderful you got to meet him and fly with him. My best wishes to him in his retirement!

Legend! Our gliding club in Auckland has bought QQ and plans to use it on the annual trip to Omarama, so it may not be Gavin’s last flight in QQ. Nice to see Gavin looking remarkably chilled and at peace.

So many of us glider pilots grow accustomed to using our locally available lift, be it thermal, ridge, wave, or convergence. At Omarama, Gavin showed us how to find and use all four forms of lift on almost every flight. What an education and experience. Thank you so much.

I know a few glider pilots with many hours who did a hard stop at age 75. Makes total sense, however hard it is...
Yes, really hard to make such a decision. For the flight safety it´s good to stop at some point but very hard to know when.
