I watched the game last night and thought we played brilliantly well done to Aston Villa I think Gary Shaw would have believed that keep up the great work UTV RIP Gary Shaw 🥲🙏👍
As a former amateur goalkeeper who has played in my country's version of the FA Cup, I can tell you this: that save at 4:16 was an ASTONISHING SAVE, especially for a totally match-rusty goalkeeper.
Kudos to the BBC for re-showing the footage of that 1982 game as part of the Champions League highlights show, complete with that commentary from Brian Moore. Congratulations Villa for beating Bayern - again. (This is coming from a Coventry City fan by the way - with very gritted teeth!!)
Interesting to see the Aston Villa side of the story. For Bayern this was a major blow that hurt them for a long time. This was the chance for the Breitner-Rummenigge-Augenthaler generation to win a European Cup and show that they were worthy successors to the Beckenbauer-Mueller-Maier gang in the 1970s. They didn't get that close again.
@@VideoAssistantRafi I think he just means that generation, particularly Rummenigge, proving that they could do it WITHOUT the old guard: Beckenbauer, Muller, Maier, etc.
@@dj71162 mate you win it with or without I could say “Rummenigge carried the old generation back then & won it for them could they have won it multiple without him?” No it doesn’t work that way. The bottom line is the players he mentioned had done it, won it, got the T-shirt & it’s too small on them now it’s 50 years ago.
@@VideoAssistantRafiyes but guys like Rummenigge, Augenthaler and Breitner were in their prime whereas when they won it in the 70s they were in their formative years!
When I was growing up in the 90s I don't remember this Villa team being mentioned much at all. It was always Liverpol and Forest from that era who got referenced for winning the European Cup, rightly so. But Villa's win didn't seem to get the respect it deserved.
Villa won it once. Liverpool 4 times. Forest twice. Probably the reason why. Also Liverpool and forest had more well known managers from that era. But ya they never got the credit really in comparison.
@@doncarloancelotti2256 Yeah. Must have been heartbreaking for him though as he was the sub keeper for Man Utd in ‘68 and only got 9 minutes in the 82 final. He was quite visibly upset about it when doing the documentary
Aston Villa made history by winning the European cup also Ron Saunders resigned from Aston Villa due to a disagreement with the board about his contact and Tony Barton took over and won the European cup with Villa
Funny that, if UK football teams play European style football they win European cups. I mean it's up to us at the end of the day but come on UK, how hard is it? Just admit Europe plays better football and adopt their styles and bring home more silverware, it's the same reason we haven't won anything wince 66!
The spirit of Gary Shaw descended on Villa Park tonight.
Well said remeber it like yesterday
What a goal by DURAN❤❤❤

Breitner won it in 74 & Rummenigge 75 & 76 what are you talking about? 😅 get your facts right mate

Breitner was some player btw.
And we won it with a reserve goalkeeper!
I watched as it happened.
Remember Steve Archibald then
Wasn't one of the former United keeper of the 1968 Champion squad on this team as well?
