The beauty of the FA Cup
Surely the injured ref becomes the fourth official. It’s not like the fourth official has to run around is it
Still got to get checked out for injuries.
It’s in case the replacement ref gets injured they make sure they have another replacement again
@@daniellaw99assistant ref would take over
@@rorystride4559 You then need someone to run the line. E.g. take this example and another of the on-pitch refs goes off with an injury, you have two officials unable to run and only one referee and a linesman. The guy from the stands would then put on an orange bib and grab a flag. They were just covering their bases for if it happened again.
I went to a portsmouth match and every referee got injured and had to be replaced, they ended up getting a random person to be a linesman
"The referee's a ….banker?"
I see what you did there…….and I like it! 😂 I would have thought you’d be seeing a lot more thumbs up?
Wow I didn't know that it was the protocol, imagine having this in a world cup game 😂
In the world cup they have spare refs but in these FA cup ties they have to recruit fans it is FA protocol
They have multiple extra refs in big games. It's the FA Cup 2nd Round aka the least interesting round.
@stingersplash yes but also in big games let's say Man city vs Dagenham and Redbridge in the 4th round they might still have fans as standby refs .I remember in one of my local Sunday league games they had a fan ref the last 30 mins as the ref hurt is groin .
made me think of Jimmy Hill at Highbury, 1972.
This does not shock me……. Referees have to be as active as the players they’re running up and down as much as the players
The injuries can happen to Ref as well
Yea, it's crazy how people complain about Ref and the watch, when in reality he spends the whole game going back and forth.
I can’t remember if this is the one I saw, but the reason why they picked that fan in particular is because he had a Refereeing experience and license
Oi, he has a license!
Oy there mate, do you have a refereeing loisense?
Yeah, in a lot of stadiums (at least in Germany, don't know how it is in the UK but I would guess kinda the same) they have an area for referees from lower leagues. So the referees from local leagues are able to watch professional football for free. Probably the staff went to that area to check who of those would take the role and then either took the one who wanted or the one with the most/highest experience. I'm pretty sure they didn't take a random guy from the stands that never referred a match.
@@sabedi2129also here in Italy is the same
This happened at a swindon game last season
The second ref was the best one we've had this season. Shame we played extremely poor
2:14 naah that dude had me almost dying😂😂
Replacing an official from the crowd should never be a problem, as there are thousands of people there who know more about the laws of football, have better eyesight and can do the job better than someone who is actually qualified. 😅
The second ref hasn't got the haircut.
This can often happen even though i support Dundee FC my English team is Wimbledon AFC not the other one but I passed my badge in Jersey Channel Islands so when I returned to Scotland an announcement was made at St Mirren for a 4th official ... I went forward and they said no.. you are a FA Ref not an SFA Ref, you are not accredited here unless EUFA or FIFA so it was a total no, I think they went without a fourth official
"My English team..." 😆😆😫😆
They always have four officials but i suppose someone has to be the new Fourth official.
I remember Jimmy Hill doing it
2:10 Hilarious 😂
I’m convinced they do this in the lower leagues for the entertainment purposes, how do they not have another qualified referee there?
Calf strains are the worst...
Shouldn't they come up with a better system if, every time the ref is injured, and despite having a fourth official, they're also reliant on pulling a random out of the crowd?
The refs chase the play(ers) so much, I think he's the fittest on the pitch, so if he gets injured, it must be bad.👍
Dan jamo was here (notdan2)
YES HARRYYYYYYYYYY
Is there a doctor in the house... Oh wait, correction, is there a qualified linesman in the house?
This is too hilarious ffs
Im blind
I'm deaf
I want to be a ref ⛳
I wonder if these days these things are scripted just to add some drama. Surely you'd have a back up?
It’s been FA protocol for a very long time, and this is a very insignificant cup game. If this was a later stage in the cup, they’d have a backup.
Also, scripting this would be a bit of a bad move.. the fans would get bored stiff xD
If it's scripted then surely they can come up with better storylines than "The ref has a calf sprain"
😂😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Utter woke nonsense
Did somebody hurt you?
Bro he got injured what is wrong???
Fc Bullard
It was a joke 🤣
@@Joshua-g8c Didn’t sound much like a joke to me mate
