My one life regret is getting my B.S., in IT, at a traditional university. I never took advantage of the social aspects. I only left my dorm room to go eat and go to class. I recently started my M.S., in Data Analytics, at the same school. It's fully online, and I'm so happy with it. I did get my A.A.S, in IT, which was fully sponsored by the state of Tennessee. No regrets there. If I could do it over, I would have done my B.S. and M.S. at WGU without question. This was a great video.
P.S. My best grades were in my cybersecurity and ethical hacking classes. 😊. Love that stuff. Great video.
When you first mentioned the $4k, I had to stop and take a breath. Then at the end, you mentioned and showed how much one would spend on a traditional school year. This is a great reminder for those that are on the fence, IMO. Your video is great and hopefully will spur others on into making the plunge!

Definitely been there. I received my bachelor's degree from WGU. You are exactly on point. The coursework was out of date and didnt match what was on a the test a good bit of times. I struggled but I did obtain some certifications. The exams were tough. It didn't help that you had someone watching you the entire. I had a great student mentor that helped me along the way. My degree is in IT management

Hi Nicole, I don't know if you'll be checking these comments but your video on the Google IT Support Certificate has really made me interested in taking my first step into IT.
I'd like to have your opinion on taking that course and then taking the Bachelors in an IT at WGU but I'm a bit lost on which one to choose? I know this decision would be better set for me after I take the GITSC, but any advice for someone completely new to IT? Great channel by the way!

If you get a job beyond entry level will depend on more than just your degree. I had a job previously but it will help me find my next job
@@thetreepeople7001 Yea, if you are effectively teaching yourself and just taking tests to say that you're competent with only a pass-fail system, you have people that are getting degrees that otherwise wouldn't at a traditional school where grades and gpa matters. WGU gives you neither.
@@Not_Always I left a 5 year cybersecurity program at a renowned University to go to WGU for information assurance... Passed my CompTIA A+ 1101 exam and then landed a job with security clearance and almost unlimited growth potential...The self-teaching "discovery" aspect of not having structured course work actually translates very well to the real world with regards to information assurance and cybersecurity.
I was gonna go for pre nursing but they require me to go to a lab plus I need to do a 3 page essay and other things

Hey, I was reading reviews for WGU and there are some pretty negative reviews regarding the exams. Did the material help with the exam. One complaint was that the course work had nothing to do with the exams. How was your exam experience?
Some of the coursework wasn't good for the exams. I had to seek help from reddit WGU thread a lot of the time.

ehhhh, I am mixed. I always had issues in school answering multiple choice because I don't think in a linear way. As to me were just how well you could memorize facts, not how well you understood concepts.

Are you saying there are no instructors on the bachelor's level? They seem to talk about making sure you meet with course instructors often.

Technically, no there are no instructors. It is heavily reliant on you learning the material yourself, and if you have issues reach out to a course mentor.
I’ve just gotten to know about WGU however I read it on their website about paying less if you choose to complete your degree faster. So is it true? If I choose to complete my degree in 0.5 years so that means my degree would cost a total of $4000? Is it correct or am I misunderstood?

I'm starting WGU this month of October 2023. BS business administration hr resources. I have to take 3 courses in there academy before being enrolled into the university. I'm 57 yrs old and work in automotive. Do you have any advice? I'm taking the education to work in the office not production thank you.

I was sold on WGU until I heard about the grading system. Doesn't that affect you if you are applying to another university for a masters? Wouldnt you also miss out on scholarships due to the lack of grades?
Yes. There is no GPA or grades, so many colleges would not be able to transfer credits without a corresponding GPA. Not everyone accepts their "every class with a pass mark is equivalent to a 3.0' disclaimer.

I had the same concerns while looking into LSU Online MBAs. Reached out to their admissions, they said since WGU is fully accredited. The pass fail are not an issue for them as alot of college offer their students a P/F alternative to a conventional grade. I think fails will harm your GPA but as long as you're all passes. Think see this as an issue.
Eastern also accepts the wgu business accreditation for their mbas.
idk, seems like the 'cons' listed are a list of the very things people don't want to experience. Half the point of going to WGU is that you aren't going for *the experience,* you go for the degree. If people want *the experience,* then yes, go to another university.
how do jobs feel about getting a degree from this school? this the only thing that worries me that they dont like how fast the learning goes by.
I'm just a random guy, but no employers have _ever_ asked me about the time it took to get my WGU degrees.
No one asks you how long it takes or your GPA. They want to know if you can do the job they are hiring you for.

I've also been concerned with the lack of networking as I've read that networking is the primary way people get jobs in the cybersecurity profession. I'm presently pursuing an AS in Cybersecurity after working 15 years in another field and am trying to decide whether or not to transfer to WGU after graduation. I am starting April 1st couple days away! The enrollment counselor was so helpful every step of the way. Financial aid covered whole school year even had some refunded for a new laptop. I searched every college and had to pay out of pocket for them all. Except this one I am confident I will succeed.

To me WGU is the best school for IT. You have to learn a lot on your own, just like you would on the job. It teaches you how to find answers, not just memorize things.

Thank you for this video. I've been highly considering it. One thing I have questions about is- how does the grading work? Do you write essays? Take exams? Since there are no professors, are they proctored? That's where the gaps are for me.
I start April 1st. I went thru orientation what was explained in orientation was we get graded on our work thru assessments those are the test at the end of courses. We do them at our own pace the courses and advance when we pass courses for term. The test are taken in front of a exterior Webcam we provide. Nothing and no one can be in front of us when we test. When we finish the assessment we get notified whether we passed or failed. Questions we got wrong we won't specifically know but get a detailed overview on areas we got wrong. I am excited they are so helpful there's student resources that help u can do online meeting, phone call meeting to ask instructor or any area u may need help. They have math center, writing center. They have webinars u can see live and already recorded ones. U get a mentor who will meet with u weekly and help every step of way. U can reach out to instructor set up appointment. Best part financial aid covered tuition and fees even got some back to get a new tablet. They also have so many scholarships available. U should really if interested furthering ur education give this university a chance it's a life changer!

Please can you make a video on Cybersecurity jobs that do not require a security clearance.
It is on my list. the only industry you need a clearance in is DoD. There is the health, insurance, FAAMG, finance sectors that do not require a clearance

I'm starting in October and have been looking for that one hidden con that's waiting to reveal itself after I make the first payment. Please someone tell me now, because the cons listed here aren't so bad.
It's been great so far, the biggest issue i've had is that the course material and pre assessment isn't fully sufficient for the Objective assessments. For the objective assessments you have to look at the course tips/ announcements for videos that will better prepare you for the Objective assessment. Some classes (accounting) you'll want to watch the (inlearning) videos that are available as well. Motivation is the next big issue so far, keeping motivated to finish.
This is a great CON video! Balance is important.

Hi there I am also in cyber field. Do you have to pay flat fee per semester whether youtake 1 class or 4?
The cost is a flat fee for 6 months around $3,750 depending on your major. You have to take a min of 4 classes which is equivalent to 12 cu's. It's pretty easy to finish that with plenty of time for more courses. I started 8/1/23 and even with being sick the majority of the time I just finished the 12 cu's and am moving on to complete more as of 10/11/23. You can do as many classes as you like.

@@Not_Always jobs don’t care what grade you got or even what school you went to, niche ranks wgu as the second best IT school in the country, it doesn’t matter if it says a grade or pass it just matters that you know what you’re doing and they’ll be able to clearly see that in the interview.

You must be paid by the university. I applied for master, according to their grades plan, it will cost me almost $30k and 2 years and half to graduate. plus fees for state tests, exams and licensures. Program mentor treat students like children, and they are useless.
