    Hello Ms. Chung, I don't know if you remember me, but I am Vincent. The whole class and other class of 5th grade you taught the one virtual year at Kennedy has promoted to middle school including me today. I hope you are proud and have had a great life since that 5th grade year. You gave me many memories.

    Hi. Would you recommend trying to get a Masters in Teaching from WGU (or any school) if I didn't major in education for my bachelors? Is there a way of getting teacher certifications in additional and/or outside of an online Masters in Teaching program? All I have been able to find so far are in-person Masters in Teaching programs that offer teaching licenses etc, but as they are in person they are clearly much more expensive and time consuming that an online degree. Any advice on this? Thanks.

    I’m hoping to register soon but I’m worried my district won’t accept the MS/MA due to WGU wording for their credits. I asked my district if they have accepted or would accept a degree from WGU and they told be as long as the transcripts say equivalent to semester units somewhere instead of What WGU uses to describe their units as “CU” they also require the course name and number along with the semester unit value. Has anyone had the same issue/question?

    • @thepurrfectpencil

      If I'm being honest, I would've definitely learned more if I was in person. This is very self-paced and you have to learn a lot of the content yourself. I really needed the masters to bump up my salary, so that's why I used WGU.

    • @thepurrfectpencil
      @thepurrfectpencil  3 года назад +4

      Hi! For the program I did (learning and tech), there were no observations! My final capstone research paper was pretty long (like 45 pages?) but keep in mind that it's basically a cut and paste of everything you've done so far. So as long as you keep the same research problem, all you need to do at the end is put it all together!
      I didn't present it, the graders graded the paper, and returned it if I needed to make any changes. You are given a template which helps a lot! No exit exam, just your capstone paper is all they need. (There are two multiple choice tests throughout the program though.)

      A lot of people work in the night time (I think that's why the mascot is an owl aka night owls) lol! I would teach during the day and I would work on my assignments from around 6 pm to midnight. Some days I rested. I tried to knock out as much as possible during the weekends and holiday breaks.

    Was it mostly “busy work” rather than difficult work? 🤔

    • @thepurrfectpencil
      @thepurrfectpencil  3 года назад +5

      Thankfully they provide templates so you'll follow those! Some papers were about 4-5 pages, but the ones towards the end of the program were about 15-20! If you keep the same instructional problem, you'll just copy and paste at the end so it'll be long (like 20+ pages) but it'll be work you've already done.
      They're all APA style! And it wasn't too difficult but they just take a while to complete. I wouldn't call it busy work since the papers will ultimately connect to your capstone! :D

    I'm currently trying to decide between Curriculum and Instruction and Learning and Tech. What made you decide Learning and Tech over curriculum? I'm super curious as I am sitting 50/50 right now.

      Ah I apologize for the late response. This school year has been insane. I chose the tech one because I have a pretty good background in technology and I thought that would help me accelerate faster! And something to do with tech always looks great on a resume!

    Thank you, you answered my question. So basically I can take $10,000 worth of courses for just about $3k if I'm fast enough to finish in 6 months.

      I would say if you can commit the time, you can definitely get it done quick. The work isn't difficult, just time consuming! Check out the facebook pages for your program and that will help a lot! :)

    were you able to finish your observation hours and student teaching hours during your six month time frame? Sounds like a lot of work. Congratulations

      Good question! I can't speak for the teacher credential route, this program was for teachers who already had their credential! So I didn't have to do student teaching or observations.
