  • Behind the Chips! Episode 1 : Y-Axis Gibs. Welcome to my attempt to provide useful information regarding CNC machining/electronics/designing/etc. I'm self taught which means I don't really know what I am doing and mostly use the rule that if it sounds wrong you should turn it off quickly!
    This video shows me adjusting the gib in the Y-Axis of the Grizzy G0704 milling machine. I think I'm doing it correctly...

    I'm sure you have figured this out by now, but you loosen the thin edge side of the "tapered" Gibb and tighten the thick side to increase the wedge effect until play is gone, then gently tighten the thin side screw to keep the Gibb from sliding out of adjustment but no more or you can bow it. Never tighten the thick side against the thin side while it is tight against the Gibb in an effort to "adjust" it.
