What??? As a singer/musician myself, I am dumfounded by this girl/young woman. To sing this difficult and haunting melody with such depth and magnetism is off the charts...truly remarkable. Both she and the composer are timeless...ageless. Thanks for a great reaction.
She was 12 when she recorded this, 13 when released. This performance reveals Angelina's true genius in not only being able to sing this difficult melody, but also to convey this adult emotion of love. This is one of my favorite performances by AJ!! ❤❤😊😊

A Song For A
If you want to experience a hauntingly beautiful song by Angelina Jordan that was written exclusively for her, try this one. A Song For A AJ had just moved from Norway to LA and was 13 years old, the album "Melting" was recorded in the Abby Road Studio in London, and A Song For A, written for AJ was recorded in LA.
Complex melody, unusual lyrics (based on eighteenth century poem by Robert Burns), and adult themed, and completely unlike anything she's sung before (perhaps with the exception of "La Bohème" - you should check that out - it's beautiful, brilliant and underappreciated). And all beautifully performed, in perfect time and pitch, with impeccable phrasing and profound emotional impact...all by a 12 year old. To say she is in a master class of her own is actually an understatement. There is simply none other who even comes close.

A Song For A
Angelina could sing the phone book and it would be a masterpiece. “Song For A” was composed for Angelina Jordan, and her alone. The original lyrics came from a poem by Robert Burns written in the 1700’s and was put to music by Nico Cartosio on his album “Melting”. “Song For A” is the only vocal on the album all other pieces are instrumentals, and they are beautiful. The song was recorded after AJ’s family moved to LA so she would have been 13 at the time. The sounds of her voice on this recording will take you places you have never been before.
This is a marvelous recording. To explain it I will use the composer's description: "Song For A" from Nico Cartosio's album "Melting". "Song for A is the only song on the album. It is performed by Angelina Jordan, a very young and very talented singer. I needed a bright final for my instrumental album. After the series of cold hells and Melting itself I longed for a song of a liberated soul, a soul that was set free from suffering. So, I remembered a beautiful poem by Robert Burns and wrote this song especially for Angelina. And she gave a sensual performance." Angelina Jordan Astar is my favorite living singer, and this song is perfect for her unique voice. She is a remarkable young lady, brilliant, altruistic, and totally admirable. Her voice is something from another world. I would urge anyone with an appreciation for good music to give her a listen.
What a leap--from Jazz to classical and at 12, although she had previously done "La Boheme". This would be stunning if she was raised on classical. Angelina just "knows" how to sing anything and from a very young age. I have no other words for this performance. It is one of my favorites. I hope one day she does that video.

Amazing reaction to an Epic Performance! She doesn't realize how amazing she is and she is so humble. She posted on Tik Tok a video of her playing the piano and singing and she lost her place on the piano and said oops and chuckled and wasn't afraid to post it. Nico Cartosio is a not very old Russian composer. He was approached by certain people to do the album after prior compositions went viral on RUclips. They made it possible to record the instrumentals in Abbey Road, having Gavin Greenaway, who often worked for Hans Zimmer, as the conductor. Angelina later recorded the vocal part in Los Angeles.

It's not clear: I think the song is about a girl named Annie, so "A" could likely also refer to that character.

Maybe confusing, but isn’t the poet Robert Burns from Scotland 18th century who wrote the text. Robert Frost, inspired by Burns, was born in San Francisco 19th century?

240 years ago Robert Burns wrote The Rigs O’ Barley, to be sung to the Scottish country dance tune Corn Rigs, which I just listened to. Needless to say, it sounds nothing like this masterpiece of Nico and Jordan’s. By the way, this is the same year she released her It’s Magic jazz album, which contains It’s a Man’s World, Cry Me a River, Speak Softly Love and other songs sung by, you know, your everyday 12 year old. NOT lol! She also shows in this performance that when it’s necessary, her enunciation is perfect!

Zack, the lyrics of "song for A" come from the poem "Corn Rigs" (or "Song for Annie").
it is a poem wrote by Robert Burns (a Scottish poet, lyricist and farmer) and then he reworked it to become a song around the year 1782,
(The "Annie" of the second stanza is a reference to Anne Rankine, the youngest daughter of John Rankine of Adamhill).
Nico Cartosio (Nikolay Kartozia) is a russian musician.
and Song for A (the "A" is, I suppose, a reference to Angelina.

Not one of my favs. Her voice is fine but the antiquated vocabuary is best suited for print media. Plus, the word "rigs" should be pronounced rigs, not ridges (I looked it up). It's not a word a child, especially a Scandinavian child, speaking English would been exposed to. So who produced and recorded this thing that they not provide instructions on how say this?
On the other hand, I find her mispronunciations (and the curtain is high) and word inventions (waitening 🙂) endearing, and a reminder that English is not her native tongue.
I don't think the nonstandard pronunciation of a Scots word in a song is of any significance whatsoever; indeed, the Scots word "Rigg" derives from "ridge" so it is entirely justifiable for Angelina to pronounce it that way (or anyway she likes frankly)
Erm ..actually she has the pronunciation absolutely perfect..Rigs is old Scottish word for ridges..she and Curtosio clearly did do their research!
