- Since the beginning of civilization, societies have made different calendars in an attempt to most accurately track the passage of time. Now, two professors at Johns Hopkins University are the biggest backers of a radical new calendar that would eliminate leap years and standardize dates to be the same each year. “CBS This Morning: Saturday” co-host Jeff Glor spoke to the experts to learn more about their idea.

All U.S measurements are in metric, we just don't see it cause we convert it into our system, a mile has to measure out in kilometers, not the other way around
Rene Carrillo Using the metric system as your example is not a good point because the metric system is actually an easier more logical system of measurement. We were all taught in school the standard system but now I use metric for the reasons I just mentioned.

Aww that's right I never thought about that. That would be a bummer especially if you were born before the change say like 10 years before so you had a taste of how it is now then all of a sudden your birthday is always a damn Monday. Or maybe your birthday was on Halloween now the date you were born doesn't exist. Now what do you do. You don't want to celebrate your birthday on any other day than your own day. My birthday is 12/12 I always felt it was my special day especially with two 12's. That was always cool. Of course when the lottery was drawn on 12/12/12 I wasn't as lucky as I thought I'd be. Make it a 13 month calendar and put the names of the months correctly by their prefixes as in Sept=7 Oct=8 Nov=9 Dec= 10 etc. Each month would have 28 days and every 10 years there could be an extra day to make up the left overs.

I like it, it makes a lot of sense. At my job we have to plan around conferences and it's a huge pain because they have to keep changing the dates every year, especially because of holidays that change dates like Thanksgiving, Memorial Day, etc. It's a huge pain. Imagine if all holidays could be on the same date every year. Someone tells you a date and you know what day it is without even looking at a calendar. That would be great!
I think it's important to stay open minded to new ideas however, I would like more information on such a fragile and important subject. Till then, this is a little asinine.
Quarter of a day extra.. all we need to change. I say make it last day of work year.. free day off for all to go outside of city and appreciate the outdoor nature... free national parks, free fishing, free travel fuel to travel and enjoy nature.

In Ethiopian and many other Western countries actually use this method of calender/dates - It is said that it was mplemented by Orthodox Church years ago. And it actually does make more sense... Also, it would be nice to have an extended Christmas vacation, as we in the USA, work way more and spend less time with our families.- I think people are just too scared of change or anything that may disrupt their routine.

Because you calculate easier the monthly payment, of others, the holidays and big events remain the same so no need to plan ahead, etc.
The international fixed calendar works better, in my opinion. 13 months with 28 days each, and one extra day at the end of the year that is not considered to be any day of the week. Follow the same leap-year pattern for adding a second "extra" day (every 4 years except when divisible by 100, unless also divisible by 400). Result: Each month begins on the same day of the week, and every date is on the same day of the week each month/year, and every month has exactly 4 weeks.

The year divides best into 13 months of 28 days... Which is pretty close to a lunar cycle..
That calendar is ridiculous. If we have 13 months you can have every month be exactly 4 weeks long, and then only have 1 or 2 extra days at the end of the year. The day the months start on would rotate so you don't have to always have every birthday on a Tuesday.13 months is the way to go.
I agree that the 13-month calendar would be an improvement over what we have. However, I think it would be better to have the extra day as the first day of the year. It could be called "New Year's Day" (as it is now), is a holiday, and it is a standalone day (not in a month). Then, the next day is the first day of the first month. If it is a leap year, the Leap Day is placed at the end of the year.
Imagine being that passionate and upset about something like those two old men and no one listens to you, yet your whole life was spent around this.
Still adding days in every x number of years it's the same. How about adding more minutes into an hour so you don't get those excess unaccounted time at the end of the year?

Look up St. Raphael Christian Healthcare in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. They use a Solar calendar that solves all the problems. 364 days in regular year; 371 days in a leap year
There is already a perfect calender. It's the creators calender. Follow Yah and seek his wisdom and he will reveal his truths.
Back in the 1940s they tried to popularize the 13 month calendar in business cause it made scheduling and keeping track so much more efficient and easy.
We will never hit a perfect calendar.
But 28 days every month, start every month on a monday and base it on the moon cycles which is the closest cosmic action we can witness.
How is that not close to perfect? No knuckle counting, no exception with some random month being even shorter and you can finally learn the calendar in 2nd grade.
Plus the modern calendar is as stated. First based on the Roman calendar hence the Roman names of emperors. Then converted by christians.
So changing it would separate the influence of foreign beliefs and be more based on constant cosmology not strictly of one side.
