That long though she suddenly does at 8:39 just kills me. And also the bassist is working his ass off. The drummer too, he really set the pace. That note at 8:39 though...I know you were telling us to listen to the background vocalist, but that was not the time. That note commanded our attention.

I can see where you’re coming from with Etta James, but Aretha I don’t see, I see more of Patti. Patti and Tamela has almost the same amount of power because they’re the same vocal type (dramatic soprano). I also see Patti because I see Tamela ad-libbing just like Patti do. They’re very similar.
You may likely know this by now since this vid is 2 years old, but Tamela is pronounced like Pamela.
