- First video just out of a US Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet in a ski-jump trial to meet requirements of the Indian Navy in its upcoming multirole carrier based fighter (MRCBF) requirement.
Thanks for this rare video footage!!👏👏❤❤
still wanted to see how much running was there
Same as aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya
How gracefully it transitions from land to air😍😍😍
I think we should trade LCA LIFT with F18 which will benefit both of us.
Hahaha.
why would they ?
@@otakuhunter4817 mutual benefit for both
@@thehero2817 how would boeing or Usaf benefit from trading a battle proven machine to one which our navy are wishy washy about ?
@@otakuhunter4817 none of the contenders of this RFI has proved the capability of landing on an aircraft carrier other than LCA . Also purchasing Boeing f 18 Jets with the indigenous Naval LCA program will not only develop the program but will bring capital for the program hand in return India will also gain its naval capability by using the Boeing F18 jets. Further, it will also increase the relationship between us and india.
First 👍...shiv, can u pls do a show on our options with the naval fighter... A lot of talk around us leasing the super hornet
Nice but I still support the indeginious TEDBF for navy.
Yes that 15 years away
@@singhisking768 yeah that's what I don't see the point. Vikrant will be operational by 2022. There is no chance that tedbf will be ready by then.

hey shiv , i have a doubt which most of the other defence enthusiast have .. does FA18 fit into INS VIKRAMADITYA's and INS VIKRANT's elevator ? i have seen many reports on twitter stating it won't fit !
Rafale marine does not fit because its wings do not fold.....fa-18 wings can fold so it can fit with minor modifications
@@spectre3954 as we know that iaf ,indian navy is not using any american fighter to phir question ye uthata hain ki kya FA-18 ke missiles bhi lease hoge kya kya missiles lease pe liye jate hain i said bcoz of kyunki hamre pass russian air to air missiles hain inventory aur ye sab jante hain ki russia aur america ka kesa rishta hain america ye russian missiles ko integrate karne ki permission nhi dega per indigenous weapons america ek aur se de bhi sakta hain aur nhi bhi

Poori weapons package kharidni padegi. Lease mein lene ke wajah se US even indian weapons ko integrate karne se manaa kar sakta hai.
It's using nearly clean configuration. Where's bombs and missiles? Maybe 3 droptanks?
I'm sure they did that too but never released a video for the public
I think we should go for Rafael naval variant.
It's navel variety is more costlier then f-35 and adding wing folding mechanism will further increase its cost.
36 Airfroce varient was around 8 billion dollar.
But the thing is till yet naval raffel hasn't demostrated this.
Was there a blue relatively smaller appearing drop tank below right wing of the plane? If yes than atleast it proves to be able to carry decent payload but still how much fully loaded or half even in drop tanks. Or was it just a mass simulator tank.
The super hornet can carry 3,500 lb of munitions
@@spartanx9293 that's with a catapult or regular runway, not a ski jump STO
Ski jump limits naval aviation. We must move quickly towards catapult launch, preferably magnetic rail assist.
First sensible comment in this comment section
EMAL will be incorporated in the third Aircraft carrier, I heard US has shared the tech-know how with India
It was flying clean. Any info on how much fuel and payload it can carry while on a ski-jump ?
It wasn't flying clean, if you look again you can see some dumb bombs under the wings that are training bombs, I think GBU-38s
@Mohamad bin Hamza any source?
@Mohamad bin Hamza ""FA18 did performed well""
They (the US) were testing them with A and C models years ago.
Those versions of the hornet are well over 40 year's old
Nice👍👏
For short time lets leeze two squadron untill Tedbf comes out
Tedbf never gonna come

As we don't have much option so it's the best as stopgap before TEDBF..But we should purchase instead of leasing just an opinion NAVY knows best 👍
This can replace Fishbeds and Floggers which are very old already
The question is with How much Weapon & Fuel weight can "F-18 Super Hornets" take-off from a STOBAR Carrier like INS Vikrant??
Its best that Indian Navy opts to Lease "F-18 Super Hornets" from US Navy till the time TEDBF gets developed.
It will be difficult to Lease "Rafale-M" jets as they weren't manufactured in large numbers by France due to French Navy only operating a Single Aircraft carrier "Charles De Gaulle".
But if its about procurement then "Rafale-M" is the best option as it will allow IN to have logistical commonality with IAF.
Both IAF & IN can use each others facilities during conflict for MRO if they operate the same Aircraft.
F-18s have buddy refuel option
@@AbhinandanNM.. To perform Buddy Refueling the refueller F-18 Aircraft also needs to able to take off from STOBAR Carrier with the required fuel load.
The question is with How much fuel & Ordinance can F-18 Super Hornets take Off from a STOBAR Carrier like INS Vikrant??
The Rafale in its most basic configuration is around 115 million. Now add on all the equipment, for example the Indian Navy wants, it'll be way mkre expensive. Now the F18 at its cheapest is around 70 million, and the most expensive is the EA-18G electronic warfare version of the F18. It's cost is around 125 million. Having multiple Air Forces using the F18, as well as the US Navy parts will be readily available. The only country that uses the Rafale Naval variant is France. There's also only around 250 rafales. The F18 A/B/C/D variants 1,480 were produced. The E/F variants have around 610 produced. Honestly I think India chose the wrong aircraft considering the F18 also has wings that fold allowing more room on the carriers deck and hangars. Boeing was also going to allow India to build its own version of the F18 and help build a factory for that and maintenence
🙏
👍
with fully loaded?
Can you see any load?
With full weapon i doubt
Whoopie! In 1982, an F-14A did it 28-times...

Hope Rafale does it more better with comparable good cost.
With out payload
Are they to be inducted for the Indian Navy sir??
not ordered yt
No ,can be taken on lease
Not yet they are testing ski jump ,our Indian navy aircraft are ski jump model
Yes according to sources the Indian navy is taking 15-18 fa-18 super hornets block 3 on lease from usa for ins vikarant
Can anyone confirm - Is this with full load or part load??
Empty, not Carrying drop tanks &, weapons
See it there is nothing on wings no weapon, no-idea about half internal fuel
If it is empty load, then this trial is just the first phase of it.
No aircraft can takeoff fully loaded with a jump ramp.
Tejas fits in perfectly for US as a trainer! It can do ski jumps
Yes
US navy carrier don't have ski jump system, they use catapult system to propel the jets. But yeah Tejas is an perfect choice no doubt about it!
I think Rafale M is best for Indian Navy, because fa18 will come MANY TERMS and CONDITIONS
Its not smooth lift off lag could be clearly seen 0:15 in slow motion and its just load less takeoff just imagine how this jet with heavy payload could've lift off smoothly 😊👌
Yeah, lots of wishful thinking.
It can't take off on full payload without catapult launch. This means the F/A-18E will be carrying 4-6 air to air missiles + 2x anti-ship or just mix 6-8 AIM-9X and AIM-120C7
@@jayjay53313 it can take off with more payload and fuel than both Rafale and Mig-29K from Ski ramp
@@F22raptor46 yes because of the wings and aerodynamic design, the F/A-18E has better stability and lift and lower speed. But still ski ramp is never practical for convention take off aircraft. Even China will phase out the Type 001 & 002 ski ramp carriers after Type 003 and newer catobar carriers entering service.
ONLY INDIGENOUS TEDBF
I don't see the point of this.. Catapults allow more payload... Seems a waste of money to me..
I think TEDBF should have been never approved at the first place. The R&D & manufacturing cost will be too much for just around 50+ limited numbers. bcz Navy is anyhow procuring 36 foreign jets & we are gonna have only three carriers (being optimistic), & IAF has NO interest in TEDBF.
So, just for 50+ jets, all this indigenization drama makes no sense.
instead,
Order 57 foreign jets, & transfer all mig-29k/kub to IAF once the ordered jet's delivery starts. 57 jets are more than enough to operate from both Vikramaditya & Vikrant.
Once future planned INS Vishal comes close to delivery, choose another foreign jets based on INS Vishal's capability. Like, more order of previously ordered jets or F-35. (Which help us stay relevant to futuristic combat).
(Who knows, USA may allow us to operate F-35, ten years down the line.).
