      If you get the first line dead straight, then one horse walks in that furrow, how they keep it so neat. They know a lot more than a tractor does.

    That is beautyfull soil. my soil here is sand loam and when I pick It up it crumbles like corn meal. I live on Manitoulin Island Ontario Canada so most farms are limestone bolders. with a shallow layer of soil.

      It is nice soil here. It has a lot of clay in it.What crops are grown there?

      @@WorkingHorsesWithJim Most Manitoulin farms have cattle that are fed hay silage and grain. Our evil government has made farming an expensive hobby.

    You have some really nice soils in northern NY. On my place in the Sullivan Co Catskills you dig a hole and it's half rocks, they named the town right ROCKLAND. Anyway I can grow pretty nice garlic here. Wishing you a good crop and health.

    The use of animals to perform field work sets an important precedent. We need to be able to use microorganisms to fix problems inside our bodies, and use friendly animals to eradicate harmful animals.

    Could you explain sometime to us/me how many acres you farm and what you grow and why? Is this your full time job and is all this work just to keep your horses fed so you can do it all again? Or do you just love this way of life because there is of course much more efficient ways to do all this, but I notice you are in Amish country so is this how all your neighbors do it? Thanks fro a very impressed viewer

    • @WorkingHorsesWithJim
      @WorkingHorsesWithJim  4 года назад +2

      We grow mostly hay but also a small plot of corn ground each year. We have a herd of beef cows, and we sell beef locally. So we harvest hay for our livestock but then we also sell quite a bit of hay also. Our land is divided up between a large woodlot and fields. So time is divided up between harvesting from the woodlot and logging on other land and crop work, and it is Jim's full time job, and then some. We have chosen to live this way because it is what we want to do. We were doing this here before there were any Amish in our area. There are also very big farms in our area. Thanks for you questions and for watching our channel!
