- During the lead up to any new Pokemon game, lots of reveals are made and new trailers shown off, except, sometimes, these reveals are of things that the Pokemon Company DOESN'T want you to see. In this video, we're going to be covering 13 Pokemon that were accidentally revealed early by the Pokemon Company themselves, and talk about the slip ups that ultimately caused these Pokemon to be seen before they were intended to be!

I seriously still remember when the Alolan Starters Final Evolutions revealed by via leak then the person did a fan drawing and Masuda was like:"We didn't even have a chance to reveal these guys yet."

Rockruff also got shown early. It was in the background of one of the trailer. I remember people speculating if it was a deer or a dog Pokémon because we didn’t get a good look at it.

In defense of the demo slip-up, it's extremely common in all forms of programming to leave leftover data even when it's unused to prevent crashes. Removing large parts of any program is risky because you can never be 100% sure if any of the remaining files ever refer to the files you removed and programs trying to find files that no longer exist can have disastrous results. Back in the 16-bit era and before, back before data-mining became widespread, it was very common for game demos to just be the whole game and simply lock you out at a certain point because that's genuinely the easiest way to do it, as backwards as it may sound. In the modern day, game demos often have to be rebuilt from the ground up just to prevent stuff like the Alola Dex from being included where data-miners can get it. With all that in mind, Game Freak holding back on doing demos again makes a lot of sense.
I think it would be cool if they released demos alongside the games so people could try before they buy. Maybe they could include a little bonus for playing the demo like they did with Ash-Greninja.
I wanna say the demo after that had most stuff replaced with dummy data
I think it just shows gamefreak isn't with the times especially then, not realizing that a lock isn't going to cut it. sure a vertical slice is safer but excluding content from specific development branch then patching up the bugs and crashes to make a release candidate has been a thing for a long time and a company like gamefreak that likes to keep things under wraps should of caught on faster.
But maybe it's just my own opinion but It always feels like gamefreak is always years behind in terms of modern development practices for the times. but hey maybe I have been spoiled by xenoblade 3 and what it is capable of making this console do with similar hurdles.
@@skormfuse oh, GameFreak has never been good at actually developing and coding. Their games tend to be years behind contemporary releases in design and mechanics and their coding is incredibly inefficient in technique and space management.
For example there's a ROM hack of Crystal that adds new maps and features including a following mechanic with unique sprites for every Pokémon and the size of the ROM is the same. Gold and Silver already had someone, Miyamoto I think, recompile the code in a way that left space for them to include most of Kanto with a few modifications. That hack I believe reintroduces the full Viridian Forest, Mt Moon, and Safari Zones that didn't make it into GSC and the ROM is still the same size along with completely unique maps and sprites
@@M_Alexander It was Satoru Iwata that compressed Gold and Silver. And I'm pretty sure Crystal Clear is bigger than vanilla Crystal, though it's small enough to fit on a GBC cartridge.
It feels like the English trailers get the short end of the stick a bunch of times. The English ones are typically the more graphically rough, prompting people to assume that they're showcasing older builds of the game compared to the Japanese trailers.
Its almost as if the games were developed by the team in Japan...

I very clearly remember this. It was facing away from the camera and everyone was debating what its face looked like
Gogoat was revealed but Skiddo was revealed accidentally in the background of an official screenshot. Originally presumed to be bushes, if was deduced to be a pre-evo.
Gogoat's shiny was also shown in, I think, a trailer? The funny thing is that they changed what it's shiny looked like.

I also remember that nobody -wanted to- believe in them due to Incineroar being what it is.
But then Mallow was officially revealed and everything changed... The bipedal Firenation attacked (yet again)...

I remember when the Alolan starters final evolutions got Reveal. People was angry about Littens Evolution because some was thinking it'd be another Fire/Fighting Type and some didn't like it simply because it looked too humanoid and Litten, and Torracat was on all fours and Inceniroar wasn't! 🐯
The final evos of the Alola starters being revealed was so iconic. Caused so much controversy and discussion, I loved it at the time

I genuinely unironically pogchamped when I saw Gimmighoul in this video, didn't realize they had actually accidentally "revealed" him so early on!
This isn't really the same thing, but I remember the large amount of speculation that went down about Arrokuda when Cramorant was revealed first, leaving it to simply be known as "The Gulp Missile fish."

I was too young to really get all the leaking stuff but I do remember how exciting it was when the demo came out, and honestly that round of starter leaks was SO fun
origin form Palkia and Dialga were also first leaked from their Pokémon cards :)
I believe Meloetta was also accidentally revealed through a movie poster for the Keldeo movie.
Aren't they both gen 5 pokémon?

@@KalleBerendijk But your referring to the movies/anime the games normally come out before the anime, so meloetta and keldeo were both already released, even if nobody has them in-game without hacking.

Taking data ‘out’ of a demo is not trivial. I’ve seen it quoted as the reason that demos are quite rare. It’s a lot of work!
I remember the mareanie leak. most people assumed that mareanie was based on a sea urchin at the time. I also remember the early furfrou leak, and how someone thought that furfrou was based on a llama.
Actually the Alola starters got revealed 4 times. The official reveal, the demo leaks, the concept art and the TCG cards.
Idr if the demo was after the official reveal, but if so, we got their shinies then too.
I very much still think that the recent 'slip-up' was on purpose since the japanese trailer didn't have them and the quality of the gameplay was much better. It's the perfect marketing tactic to get youtubers and people on the internet to talk about the game. After all, despite the famous SwSh tree controversy, the game ended up being in 2nd place for most copies sold after the original RB.
Agreed. Without the leaks the reveal would have gotten roasted online for being too long for 1 reveal. Glad the 20 fps sunflora wont make it into the main game, but seeing them run did make me hope Porygon is in 20 fps.

@@dimetrodon2250 nah. If I had said "sword and shield was a buggy mess, so theres now way theyll release scarlet and Violet incomplete" that wouldnt have aged well. The sunflora comment just shows I put too much trust in them. Still disappointed that the one pokemon line that would make sense to be stuttery polygons with low framerates isnt even in the game. Maybe we'll see you in the DLC Porygon line. We can only hope
Impidimp is an interesting case, since it was "revealed" in a battle demo at some event (don't remember which) where the starters and Yamper were also usable. I think it was an intentional joke that GameFreak never actually acknowledged it, since it would show up again in the 24 hour trailcam stream that revealed Galarian Ponyta, and they never once talked about it even after Ponyta's official reveal video.
Fun fact, in the diamond/pearl demo, if you could get yourself out of bounds, you could actually play the full version games diamond and pearl. It wasn't easy to do, but if you could avoid the exact tile of where the demo ends, and get yourself out of bounds, you could 100% play the full version.
Maybe I misunderstand it, but wouldn't showing the Wireframe of a Pokemon not yet revealed count as revealing it early? To those curious, this happened to Pikkipek in one of the first Sun and Moon announcement trailers, where it is shown in some 3d software(Maya?) in a wireframe representation. In this case, it could have been a deliberate decision. Then again, Sun and Moon got infamous with so many trailer coverage, that we knew of almost if not all Regional Variants in those games ahead of the games release.
Another case, that I remember with an early reveal, was Mewtwo's Y Mega evolution, some time before Mega Evolution was even announced, where it was shown on the updated Movie Poster for the Genesect movie.( not sure if the Poster was found legitimately though)
surprised Gen 6 mythicals weren't in the list, as they were found out during launch day thanks to how the GTS works in that game. Sometime later, Mega Lati@s was also found in XY via hacking, and was fully functional, just unusable through normal gameplay
Sun and Moon actually weren’t the last Pokémon games to get demos,just the last games for a new generation.Let’s Go had demos out for a little bit before they released but no one needed to try to datamine those since the anime already debuted Meltan and Melmetal
Meltan is weird because it was "accidentally" revealed early in Pokemon Go long before its debut in the anime. There were a lot of dittos spawning disguised as what fans affectionally named "nutto" (hex-nut ditto), and there were arguments online as to whether it was a new pokemon or if it was just the placeholder model that Niantic used, up until it was officially added to Go a few months later along with Melmetal.
I only realised this morning that gen 9 comes out in like 2 weeks. I was straight up acting like it would be months
Lucario is also an early release. Lucario can be seen in the opening credits for the Pokemon ruby and Sapphire anime
iirc espurr too was accidentally revealed in a trailer. i remember seeing the trainer running through the route where the pokemon day care is and there were some espurr in the overworld
I think a bit before legends arceus, the new regional forms and evolutions were also revealed. It might’ve been after it was released, but I remember that I just found an image of all of them on Google
A lot of people got their hands on the game early. I got it day 1 thinking it would help me avoid spoilers, but then I ended up being spoiled to everything because people decided that youtube thumbnails and titles are a good place to post spoilers.
I'm taking my time with S/V but now I'm getting spoiled to pokemon I havent seen yet in those games too (but since they are out officially, I cant exactly complain)
The English vs japanese trailer thing is also interesting because the framerate of the sunflora and other things were way way better in the japanese trailer while in the english one they were going like 12 fps
I read a theory that there's a way to toggle Pokemon icons on and off for the minimap, but the English team was using an old build without it, which is also why the Sunflora are like that™
The bug Pokemon while the trainer took the picture got revealed and is called Gimmighoul, which also got revealed early in Pokemon Go which is cool

ORAS demo leaked all the new mega forms as well. I remember thinking they'd never do that with the SM demo before that demo released.
Great video, I didn't realise some of these were leaked early, especially the Mareanie card box! I vaguely remember a frame of Cufant coming out of Rose's PokéBall but that's it haha
Seeing as how some game demos have included the full game data with an added cutoff, the Pokémon demo leak wasn't _that_ bad
The last demo was in gen 7 yes, but it was the Let's Go demo for the Nintendo Switch. After that, nothing as of time of posting.
I remember in the initial Gameplay trailer for S/M, Rockruff was leaked when a player walked passed one in the overworld for a brief moment
Wow… I never thought this day would ever come but Mareenie is a Pokémon I genuinely had no idea existed 😳 I haven’t played Sun/Moon but I always keep up with Pokémon no matter if I play or not and until now I thought I knew EVERY Pokémon up to date but apparently not. Wow.

Man I feel so bad for Alola. It was the big shift from “chibi” looking 3D Pokémon to more “standard” looking 3D we’re used to know. I don’t blame them for not doing a demo for any games following that

Odd, I don't remember the tcg reveal of the starters for Alola, because I remember the reveal trailer and people had hope those leaks were fake, or praying that Incineroarcwasn't oart fighting, do not recall tcg being mentioned.
Along with Rockruff which people have mentioned, didn't gogoat or skiddo appear laying in the background of early footage of Lumiose City prior to them being revealed?
Also, I dont remember the details because I wasn't really old enough at the time, but wouldn't Maril "Pikablu" fit on the list?
i think pikablu was an entirely different pokemon than marill as shown in the gold/silver demo leak 😅

Wigglett and The starter evolutions were revealed early from leaks on the internet. Someone who got the game early posted a video of the starter evolutions almost a week before the game was released. The video was later taken down due to copyright.
The bug like Pokémon is not a bug like Pokémon at all, as we now know it is a Ghost Type called Grimmighoul.

I remember when the Sword and Shield starters got leaked a few years back. It was a mess! Most people were absolutely convinced that they were fake and there were so many arguments about them.
6:27 Probably because some people look to get information and they shouldn't tell everyone, but they can't just keep it to them self. Everyone needs more patience and not try to spoil everything for everyone.
I'm fairly certain Game Freak knew full well that those Pokémon were in the Scarlet and Violet trailer. Just so people like you can make content like this and get people like me all hyped up for the game 😁

That demo one just saddens me because I loved the Sun and Moon demo so much that I would gladly pay to have it on the Switch since my 3ds stopped working. It’s such a fun little romp with the only flaw being that you don’t get a Pikachu permanently on the team unlike the ORAS demo (which I also miss playing) where you can just keep the Glalie (or Steelix in the Japanese version) to have a team of four mega evolving Pokémon to experience the gimmick with without going out of your way like playing the catching game in the SM demo.
There was a Sword and Shield demo shown at events where you went through Nessa’s gym with a prebuilt team and I did see if I could determine why the demo wasn’t publicly released after the games were out and I just got told to watch a let’s play if I wanted to test the game which is absolutely not what I was asking about since it’s standard Pokémon and thus nothing radical to “test out”.
I kind of wish Legends got a demo just because it would have been like the Let’s Go demo and be a way for people to test the controls, one of the main differences between them and the main series. Just a small area where you catch and battle some familiar Gen IV Pokémon.
BDSP didn’t do anything to warrant a demo, so…yeah. No real loss here despite it being a remake of my favorite Gen.
It wouldn’t even have to be crazy long. The demo for XD Gale of Darkness is fairly simple, encouraging you to snag the small handful of shadow Pokémon as a sort of high score. Better than the Colosseum demo which is just the first ten or so minutes of the game ending right when you stop a kidnapping. Don’t even see the first shadow Pokémon or get much of a taste for double battles if you weren’t familiar with the format.

It's impressive that the speculators got Charcadet's role in the Pokemon world right before the games released.
It's not as much of a slip up like what happened back with sun and moon when they first came out. People complained about us getting too much info for those games but then they started to complain about us getting too little information after we started to get no information for the next games after those games.

I fully remember that Marine leak and at the time I was a huge TCG fan and just started getting into the games. That was a pretty funny mess up

Back when I was around 10 I remember watching the QVC shopping channel and they were selling an entire set of Japanese gen 2 Pokémon cards before we even knew anything about gen 2. I felt cool.

@@puggysmall3136 with some early showcasing of the battling system of swsh, impidimp was shown but was not ever officially announced, leading to many to believe it was an accidental reveal
EDIT: after looking more into it, it was in E3 demo, but was never showcased or announced- no idea if it was a leak, accident, or intentional!
