When I imagine a paladin, I imagine a man of ultimate virtue who will bow to no evil and will exert his last ounce of strength to protect the innocent. Letting divine judgement rain down upon the wicked, as a shield for humanity as well as an avatar of pure hope and belief.

The Fighter was a Human from the north who had seen every battle and knew the ways of war more than any general could teach. Lead armies to victory with out so much as a scratch to their forces or themself.
The Barbarian was a Goliathan and with their rage would make even the mountains tremble, Death couldn't help but turn an eye from their blind fury.
The Necromancer was a Drow Elf, summoning the fallen in the droves, all would head the command of Death's champion. Even if their life had passed long before their service was planned to death.
The Ranger was a wood elf who's aim could never miss, even the four winds envied their mastery over the bow, their arrows would always hit their mark no matter the distance.
The Sorcerer a Dragonborn with fire that his ancestors would be proud to know kindled volcanos and melted the strongest armor and thickest of hide.
The Wizard a half Elf who in all their flaws was the wisest of us all, even of heart and leveled of head in every decision. Capable of thinking of others even when their life was on the line and memorizing the very image of them down to the bone.
The Rogue was a gnome who always schemed, planned, and plotted their way into vanishing when needed only to appearing when all believed they were no more. Never one to take the lead but always sure to never be last.
The Cleric was a dwarf with their faith unbreakable as the mountains their ancestors were carved from, strong of arm and direct of action in every decision like the forge god they fallowed. They carried the hammer of their ancestors with them to every battle shaking the earth with their wrath.
The Monk was a human from the east, their spirit unbreakable, their mind always pondering the next step forwards or back, and their wine the sweetest of this world. To think he was so world wise that even his "heavens" were dull to his senses.
The Druid a half orc left alone by both their Orc and human kin but never alone in the forest for fire, air ,and thunder headed their call.
The warlock a human from the south. With green fire that turned even the strongest foe to ash screaming in pain. No one ever did hear from them about the mad god they were connected to. Only how that one day they would be back for us.
The paladin a Human from a small homestead on the border of the western sea. Berated, belittled and lectured for their faith and loyalty to their god. Never would the others think it to be their role to end a demonic invasion by striking down a lord of sin with the power of their god. The paladin that didn't so much as raise a finger at the others over their methods but still stood triumphantly where the others had failed. No amount of pride, anger, power or force would sway them from their beliefs. For the rest of their days treading soil and aiding those who could not defend themselves. Bringing retribution to those that would think mercy a weakness.

That is why i seek the companionship and ideals of paladins. Noble and steady in their beliefs, even when faced with pain and suffering.
Just a warrior you mean. I am an Atheist but I've seen the worst of humanity and how brutal this world and the universe can be but we can choose to spread hate, fear and misery or create a world where people feel safe and free.
@@knighttemplaroftentacult7123 your measly 2d8 points of damage pales in comparison to the power of the divine and those of the oath.
For real though a Paladin punching someone and smiting is at least as good as firearms if not better. I'm actually being generous on the damage the actual book puts them at 1d8 piercing damage.

It doesn't matter whether you are black, yellow or white, it is music that brings peace to your heart and soul.
That reminds me about a character I created for my book. Here're the basic information about him.
He was born as a second son of a royal family. His older brother threated him badly because he was afraid some titles will be taken from him. Eventually, however, he realised what he did was wrong and decided to pay back for his sins by protecting his brother. That proved hard however, as the younger brother decided to take part in a holy war against demon. During that war, he fought a couple of strong demons and experienced their most deadly weapon- hellfire, witch made him resistant to hight temperatures. After he was injured in a battle, his brothers influence finally forced generals to send him back, he however returned just in time to take part in the final battle. As all noblemen who took part in a holy war, he was granted the title of holy knight and a lot of treasure, that he used to buy a village neighboring to his brother's lands.
After what he lived trought during the holy war he believes, that only humans are capable of being good, and magical creatures should be kept at the border, but not destroyed completely, because then people would turn on each another.
Four years later he was travelling east to take part in protecting eastern border from werevolves, former allies of demons.
On the way there, he found a village, that was ravaged by plague about a month ago, and he witnessed as villagers were executing a witch that caused that.
He however fought against witches as well during a holy war, and instantly realised she was a normal person. However, the priest who was executing her told, that her innocence will only be proven if someone brings him a piece of metal he threw to the fire without having his hands burned.
The holy knight still remembered the incredible pain hellfire dealt to him four years ago, and he knew a normal fire is no match for that. So he stepped forward, knelt in front of fire and grabbed a piece of metal with his teeth, bringing it to the priest without having his hands burned, but instead having his face injured, with everyone shocked that a nobleman could willingly endure such pain for a mere peasant.
The priest was hightly inspired by that as well as regreted what he caused. He started teaching others about selfsacrifice for not greater good, but even the smallest good possible.
And that's the first scene in witch that holy knight appear in the book, since he's only a secondary character (Main character is actually similiar to him, but have more tragic and much less glorious story).
I know this was posted a few months ago, but this is a wonderful backstory! I would love to read that book!
