Definitely pushing the front end with something. Neither the late plexi panel nor the early metal panel amps will do that sound, unmodified, without a pedal slamming the input.
Wow, my own Super Bass (which I had converted to Super Lead specs) test date reads July 8, 69, same month as yours, how cool is that? Great video and great playing sir! Although it would have been even better if you had demoed it without the OD! Cheers!
Thanks so much! It was an amazing amp - Steve's not much of a Marshall fan (he's Mesa Boogie all the way - just get him started on his new JP-2C!) but you can tell from his expression at the end of this vid just how much this particular amp blew him away. Thanks for watching and keep checking back for more demos!
I wondered if there was a pedal too - I have '71 SBH and it doesn't sound like that at all, no vintage amp does, the bass is way too tight. Vintage amps, like vintage ladies, have flabby bottom ends! ;o)
Joshua..exactly!!! this guy is a "GOOF BALL" ..." SUPER BASS " are extremely renowned for being beautifully awesomely clean...didn't even demonstrate the Amp signature sound.he went straight to low " I.Q". Goof ball Distortion mode...
Nope - on an amp like that, everything on the EQ up full, bass to 50% or less then tune the tone with the presence knob. Should have the two channels joined with a cable too. If there is too much treble then you do that on the desk. People think the sound they need is the finished tone on a record, not the case, you need to be heard through the rest of the band.

Get a 1969 Strat with an authentic Uni Vibe And Fuzz Face Pedals , That’s the Real Test
Your MXR EVH 5150 sounds bitchin' dude!

Love the amp... the V30s can sound funny (with any amp) to my ears. Thanks for the vid!
Step one get rid of the PRS and get a les Paul with some PAF pickups
Marshall : The Sound Of Success
Miss the opportunity to show how super clean the "SUPER BASS" can sound..straight to the TYPICAL Re menial low " I. Q." Distortion...GOOF BALL..
Why would you push this vintage amp with a pedal? Honestly, it doesn't sound good, it sounds like a pedal. Strange.
Literally every heavy metal band has done it. This amp sounds so good with distortion!!
Vid is totally useless ..I want to hear the AMP ..not the god-damned pedal!

Just sounded like 80's trash. Didn't really show it off
Is that Tolex Purple? Is that an OG head casing?
Who else is here because of J Mascis
That sounds like shit. Wrong kind of playing for that amp

and 2 thousand dollars at least!
Just out of curiosity was this attenuated? or was that cranked?
It's a distortion pedal.
how much?
It's up on eBay right now, item number 142242415166 with a starting bid of just $2999. Auction ends Wednesday, Jan 18 at 5:13pm. Good luck!
Just turn down the treble and it will sound great.
