    Outstanding and excellent analysis. Glad young Ghanaians are interested and studying the chieftaincy institutions. Extremely important because they are the repositories of African excellence and there should be a concerted effort to rehabilitate the institutions to remove colonial corruption. The modern Ghanaian state will only succeed if we take Sankofa seriously and rehabilitate the best of what existed before instead of repeatedly trying and failing to duplicate colonial systems and institutions. They don’t work because they are not ours to adopt.

    In our Ghanaian culture it is customary for the visitor to greet the visitee first, after exchanging pleasantries and talking about the reason for the visit the visitee now goes to the visitor as a form of saying thank you for coming to visit me. So as Otumfour did when he first entered the Ga mantse returned the favor by waiting for him to exit the place. That was it. No agenda for here

      @enochampofo6595 Месяц назад +1

      @@Domeyo448 the nomenclature doesn't matter. What matters is that one Ohene wields authority and has worldwide appeal than all and therefore has undeniable traction.
      We all see how world leaders and big dignitaries intentionally come to Ghana and go to pay homage to him.
      We see how he's the only one usually invited to momentous events around the world, etc.
      There's no gainsaying the reference accorded him by the world.
      His kingdom and his office, being historic, is a subject for studies by a good many around the world.
      These are the social facts that matter, not whether he's King or not.
      I feel his Palace and subjects care about "King."
      They rather prefer the title "OHENE" to any. And that's why they reference him as "Ohene" or "Asantehene."
      They're good to go with these and not bothered by "King no king business."

      There isn't. They are paramount chiefs. the constitution doesn't recognise Kings but chiefs. That's is because Kings do not exist in a Republic. Ghana is a Republic and not a Monarchy

      @harrywattsonkgyasi go and read the 1992 constitution of Ghana article 11(2) and come back again. The constitution only recognize Asantehene as the king in Ghana.
