As someone on methadone, it's both a curse and a gift. This entire song resonates so well in me. I'm always feeling like a burnt out flame. No easy choices to make things better and constantly feeling like everything you feel is numbed down starts to wear on you, nothing feels as good as it should or hurts like it should, and the stars really don't shine as bright.
You only realise what a 'fug' methadone is when it is reduced, or quit...and then [after the pain] laughter rolls up from the solar plexus in irrepressable gusts,..quite lovely. Subutex appears to be a better drug for some..even very long termers [30 plus years] have swapped to subbies and say they are better. Not had subbies personally, but they do sound like a goer, as I do miss a good laugh. o o ---
I really like this song, i can relate to it a lot. A few weeks ago i just got out of rehab for a heroine addiction and i have or have had all the feelings in this song and it helps keep me strong in my recovery, i love Rise Against!!!

This song could really be interpreted any way, to me it means a lot. I feel as though my bpd (borderline personality disorder) is hurting everyone around me, so the lyrics, "I am a heart on fire, and all the world's a fuse" really hit. And how once I get involved with someone as soon as they let go I blow up and destroy everything, so "I am a hand grenade, pin already pulled so don't let go" has to be the best line imo

the funny (or really sad) thing is that if you suffer from an heavy heroin addiction,you can have methadone (or suboxone..thats my case)...but if you suffer due to a toxic and unealthy relationship...well...there isn't a fuckin cure!! sometimes a broken heart is worse than a broken arm...
I know the pain of toxcicity this song hits home as to how broken i am and the feeling i could never be loved ....i am a heart on fire and all the worlds a fuse so dont get close ...survivors of abuse blame themselves

I think this song is perfect apart from the first 35 seconds. Could just be that I'm still not used to the different sound. I think the song would be a little better if he growled a bit more on the "What would it take for you to notice......I'm better off on my own" parts. More dramatic in a good way.

The amount of metaphores and literal beauty paired with those sweet riffs and melodies makes this song perfect.
Hearing "contaminated quarantined and left alone" in 2021 seems appropriate during this times.

My wife is on methadone, so I know how the ups and downs go. She seems so numb at times that it's frustrating, but I know it's outta her control.
