- मुंबईमधली गेट वे आॅफ इंडिया ही वास्तू तुम्ही बघितली असेल. पण ही भव्य वास्तू उभारायच्या आधी एक सहा फूट उंचीची मिनी गेट वे आॅफ इंडियाची प्रतिकृती बनवण्यात आली होती. रावबहादूर यशवंत देसाई हे त्यावेळचे प्रख्यात इंजिनीअर होते. त्यांच्या देखरेखीखाली ही वास्तू बांधण्यात आली होती. आजही मिनी गेट वे आॅफ इंडिया भेंडी गल्लीतील रावबहादूर देसाईंच्या वास्तूतील गॅरेजमध्ये जतन केलेला आहे... ही कलाकृती दाखवतायत खाकी टूर्सचे भरत गोठोसकर.

Rao Bhadur Desai or Yeshwantrao Harishchandra Desai, successfully passed the Elementary Architecture Exam in the year 1902, from the Sir J. J. School of Art. Later, he was promoted to the position of ‘Overseer’. After obtaining the degree
‘A. M. I. E.’-Associate Member of Institutions of Engineers (India)-Kolkata, he was further promoted to the position of ‘Assistant Engineer’ in the same department.
At that time an Indo-Saracenic style white pavilion which consisted of a porch, a central nave and two side aisles, with gold-topped minarets was created to welcome them. The white pavilion was designed by the eminent British architect -
"George Wittet", who later designed and replaced it with a permanent pavilion in stone.
He was awarded a ‘Silver Peace Medal’ by Sir T. W. Birkett, Chairman, Peace Celebration Committee on 20th December 1919. He was further awarded the title of ‘Rao Bahadur’ on 3rd June 1922 and was also made a ‘Justice of Peace’ on 26th April 1924. He died at the age of 51 on 17th July 1927 at Panchgani. Over time, his contribution to the city was forgotten but in the 1970s, to remember his contribution to the city of Mumbai, the Mumbai Municipal Corporation named a ‘Chowk’ near the Gateway of India ‘Rao Bahadur Yeshwantrao H. Desai Chowk’.
