Your talk about cannons suddenly gave me flashbacks to a Russian film that shows the gruesome horror of what it’s like to be under fire from cannons in linear warfare. Now my mind can’t help but think about how traumatizing it is to see ten or so men right next to you get eviscerated by a ball of metal while the funny whacky woohoo VR man plays Pavlov in the background.
Great, now imagine the exact same thing in modern times except your pal Greg just stepped on a landmine and blew up about half of the platoon, sending a spray of blood, dirt, and viscera into the air and leaving the unfortunate survivors mewling about on the ground with their legs blown off. War ain't pretty no matter what era you live in, and it can only get worse and worse.
as a black powder nerd i hate the reload and now want a full, actual effort put in linebattle game in VR more than ever. Like war of rights but in VR would just be my life complete.
6:48 I'm a bit of a Napoleonic warfare history buff. I don't know that there was a significant difference in the quality of the cannons on each side. I do know that both sides had lots and lots of cannons in every single battle. For a typical battle the number of troops in the army is reported in the tens of thousands, and the number of "guns" (a.k.a. "cannons") is reported in the hundreds. I believe Napoleon tended to have more cannons (ex: if his opponent had 150 cannons then Napoleon probably had ~200 cannons), but mostly he is famous for how he used his cannons, grouping them into massive concentrated "grand batteries", while his opponents were more likely to keep their cannons spread across their line. Also worth mentioning, while Napoleonic warfare inexplicably has a reputation for being clean and polite and glamorous (probably due to very effective propaganda at the time, aimed at getting people to support the war effort), it was actually absolutely fukin brutal. In the aftermath of a big Napoleonic battle you could probably walk from one end of the field to the other without ever stepping on the ground because there were so many bodies. Tens of thousands of casualties were suffered in battles lasting less than a day on fields only a few kilometers across.
It should also be noted Napoleon was an excellent Officer of Infantry as well, tending to have an advantage in field organization and movement over his enemies due to his excellence in their management and assignment of his famous Marshals to lead them. Easy to forget how he was essentially a master of all fields of combat within the era.

1:06 I believe you meant to say it is one of the most genius. By having inaccurate guns and scary noises, the point of the war was no longer kill as many as possible but to get the enemy troops to route. The Civil War was the first modern war with much better weapons hence why is was so much more bloody when their lines of infantry actually could shoot their target. Line warfare was made so that you could actually hit something with a volley rather than hit nothing if you were by yourself.
I played this map like over a month ago, and back then every weapon was just white cus it had no texture, and nothing worked, I’m choked to see it has come this far
