Howdy, friends! If you appreciate the work we're doing here, consider supporting the channel by subscribing to Means TV! Means is a worker-owned cooperative and anticapitalist streaming service that's home to a growing list of amazing socialist creators. I've been working behind the scenes to expand the roster, and we've got some very exciting additions coming soon 👀 In other news, we wrapped this video before the decision was made, but I'm excited to announce I'll soon be putting book reviews on Means TV! My plan is to read and review at least one socialist work per month and post a substantial video review as exclusive content. We'll eventually also be creating proper documentaries, but that's still a ways off. So in the meantime, I hope you enjoy all the amazing content on Means TV! Really this path of American aggression all began when the US decided to stop the peaceful ways of German unification during WW2. US has assisted the jews in oppressing people around the world, as outlined in Mein Kampf. Free Palestine!

I found out about this from a wonderful song of the same name by a great socialist folk singer named David Rovics. If you haven't heard his stuff, I highly recommend. His song "Jenin" is heartbreaking.
Do you remember when Wikileaks exposed govt corruption and GWBush formed the Wikileaks Task Force as a response? Their response was literally WTF. Amazing.
so basically, profit demands war, and as long as all we care about as a society is profit, there will be wars
🎉🎉🎉
Not even necessarily, peacetime is often good for non-military sectors of the economy. Capitalists do earnestly try to facilitate “peace” (in their terms, obviously) because that is often good for business, instability can really tank markets. But yeah, I think war is pretty inevitable in our current economic system dominated by competition.
It's more about perceived or manufactured threats to the totality of a nation, institution, community and or individual. Even if you remove the profit motive, which may or may not help, you still have the need for resource acquisition to protect those that are seen as being favorable. Just my perception anyways.
So it is time to think about a new society
@@tangerine5832 the US has been at war for all but about 20 years of its existence, so the claim that capitalists try to facilitate "peace" isn't exactly true. the extermination wars were initially contained within north america, but once they'd gobbled up all the indigenous territory they could, the US turned on its weaker neighbors (mexico and spain) and started to spread overseas.

@@aycc-nbh7289War is bad for business... *on the conflict zone*. It's profitable for weapons manufacturers, and as you've seen, for the oil industry as well. The makers of the weapon will always say you are in danger

The Deprogram Alliance vs the actual concept of war
For anybody wondering why the US lets Israel do whatever it wants to do in the Middle East, this is the answer. I believe it was Biden himself who said something like if Israel didn't exist we'd have to create one. The US needs at least one place over there that is 100% loyal to us to serve as a base of operations for anything else we want to do in the area.
Yes. There’s an actual video of him saying that.
“Were there not an Israel, the United States would have to invent an Israel to protect our interests”
That’s exactly why it has also been referred to as America’s “unsinkable aircraft carrier in the Middle East”

I know right? I usually start agreeing with them so much I have to add my two cents as I go.. Especially when I have a related thought that nobody has commented on yet....
Most of America's wars are more broadly about resources, of which oil is one of the key ones. Alan Greenspan famously quoted how it was shame that it was politically inexpedient to say out loud what everyone knew to be true, that the Iraq War was mostly about oil.
Eisenhower once admitted that the U.S. needed Vietnam for titanium.
The Cold War, the Korean War, and Latin American "dirty wars" were in reality an exercise in class warfare. America fought mostly on behalf of the wealthy, corporate interests and hegemony. The other side was fighting mostly on behalf of the poor.
Of course, America's Boy Scout soldiers often believed with all the goodness of their innocent hearts that they were fighting for "freedom". They most certainly were not.
Yes, and the wars of the Soviet Union were for peace.
😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
@WorldNews-n7m I do not glorify the Soviet Union or paint them as the "good guys". In my view, there are few cases among countries of pure saints or villains. But I will give this much credit to the communists: they had the real interests of the economic bottom, the peasants, the factory workers, the miners, more sincerely at heart than Ronald Reagan or Donald Trump ever could.
@@WorldNews-n7mthe Soviet Union hasn't existed for almost 30 years, try keeping up
But wars may make it harder to acquire these resources.
@aycc-nbh7289 Sometimes that is true, but leaders do not understand it.
Destabilizing countries with the raw resources we need/want makes it easier to keep getting those resources on the cheap and/or controlling it.
Exactly right
Then why not try to form alliances with them instead? War would simply be bad for whatever business may come of it.

If facts don't matter anymore, don't depend on facts to say what's right/wrong.
Think of it as a left-leaning conspiracy theory - You won't always have the facts to convince others of an immediate threat, instead, appeal to people's emotions and feelings. Don't force it on people either, it takes time for people to understand.
@@ButWhyMe...you don't need a formal conspiracy when interests converge
It’s wild how clear it is that our wars have been driven by oil, but yet I’ve never made the jump to oil prices and their connection to war. Another great video that just lays it all out there.
But wouldn’t wars only cause the oil prices to raise? If the military needs it more, civilians may get priced out of it.
@ the amount of fuel that actually gets produced compared to the amount of fuel used by the military is not even comparable, but I’m sure it does represent one of the many many factors that dictate oil prices.
@@MaxSwensonExcept we have seen this exact sort of phenomenon play out in WWII. Since the military was the top customer of the oil companies, the civilian market was priced out of it, so auto racing in the US did not happen as often, for example.
@ sure, but the oil producing capacity of wwII was not the same that it is today. The material conditions have changed, so the mechanisms that control oil prices have responded in kind.
@@MaxSwensonAnd it’s because they didn’t change that civilians were priced out of the oil market.
Really good video, thank you for the insight
We love you JT and team. Thanks for all you guys do
"The jackboot of capitalism" sums it up very neatly.
The military can't pass a budget audit, but by all means, let's gut "wasteful" spending on education, health and safety, and environmental protections 🙄
A college student in my class who has been on a ship in the US Navy told me an officer told him to push some toolboxes overboard. These were brand new fully outfitted mechanics toolboxes about five feet high still wrapped in plastic and unopened. Feeling he must have misunderstood directions, the sailor asked for clarification. The officer said they had no use for the tools, but if someone "higher up" saw them unopened their budget might get cut. So into the ocean they went.
keep up the good work JT!
That's actually one of your most impactful videos.
As someone currently serving in the navy I can totally agree first hand. We waste so much shit it’s not even funny. My base alone probably wasted hundreds of millions a year.
It’s not just oil, it’s about neutralizing countries posing a threat to Israel and placing a pro-western government there so trade in oils becomes/stays a lucrative business for the US oligarchs that are in that business.
Besides that, it’s about placing central banks in the last few countries that are still not owned by central banks.
Hey JT can you please make a video about the BRICS?
Many people appear to believe that BRICS will augur in a more peaceful more stable less unequal world. It may take the hammer out of the US, however, many BRICS nations are still headed by authoritarian representatives of oligarchy, and it does nothing resolve the contradictions that are the cause of capitalist crisis. The current record inequality is caused by the tendency of the rate of profit to fall towards zero, that Marx said will lead to capitalism digging its own grave. Average profit has fallen from 43% in the 1890's to 17% in 20I5. In know that in Australia the rate of profit was 12% last year. At 12% the mega wealthy are unlikely to invest in anything and that is why they are sitting on so much dead capital, and are getting tax breaks to keep them solvent.
As of 2008 we had past peak oil (we have consumed more than half of the world's retrievable oil reserves) and extraction is now in a 9% decline and a shortfall of 8 million barrels a day in meeting current daily requirements (84 million barrels a day, or 1 billion barrels every 12 days)
Total collapse is estimated to occur by 2030.
@@DavidDieni The unipolar world order must go before even the possibility of a better world can bloom. US Imperialism is CURRENTLY the single greatest source of inequality world-over (as well as the greatest threat to our future via climate crisis), not the tendency of the rate of profit to fall. Please do not use that in place of “hand of the market" epistemology, ie comparable to some absolute law of physics. It is an observed tendency, particularly over longer span of time, but not an immutable "must happen at every observed minutiae". This video even demonstrates how capitalists can rig a system to pump up demand through market fears of diminished supply, it is a tool developed to buffet against the tendency of the rate of profit to fall, even if temporary.
In "resolving contradictions" there is only but one way: one step at a time. In this case, the first step is the entity kneeling on the neck of the developing world: US imperialism. BRICS is an alternative to dollar hegemony, one of --if not the primary-- tool of US imperialism. The US cannot win an economic war against this erosion of dollar hegemony, because as alternatives become available, sanctions become less effective. Trump threatening 100% tariffs against a currency that does not exist yet is frankly ineffective because it primarily hurts US businesses and consumers. Tariffs are an effective tool for protecting ones' own domestic industries, but not an effective means of conducting a trade war. US capitalists has already tied its own noose on this front, by exporting most of its manufacturing abroad that it cannot demand back entirely (it exported manufacturing by chasing cheaper labor costs; also it cannot be simply moved back as supply chain systems must be [re]built including decaying infrastructure)(caveat for "entirely", much of Made in USA manufacturing is done by prison labor).
*Also, since you seem to be engaging in some level of Marxism, I implore you read Engel's "On Authority". Authority and power are not ontologically bad things that communists/leftists/antifascists/etc should avoid if they want to succeed, and calling people you don't agree with, whatever political pursuasion, "authoritarian" for wielding power is... look, I don't know how to put it more kindly, but please examine your analytical and belief systems for residual liberalism. "authoritarianism" is such a label that fits anyone using power, so it's very convenient to put fascists and theocrats and neocons under the same label as communists and socialists, to then use at will to deem "enemy". There are better and more specific labels than just "badism".
Great large scale analysis of how war and conflict are fueled by economic factors, specifically, the corporate billionaire class’ inherent interests. These are antagonistic to the people’s interests: Peace, Land and Bread. These are the enemies whom we, the people, must unite in solidarity against.
There is already enough food grown today to feed 13 billion people.
We've conquered hunger but the demand for profit means we aren't allowed to actually solve one of humanity's most pressing problems.

We have one world government already - all the mechanisms that go into tweaking and facilitating the flow of oil into different, favored markets. They manipulate culture to rig both supply and demand and trick people into thinking that's what they would "choose", all other things being equal. I live in the southern US, where having one of the late-model big ass trucks is something you will go into an unreasonable amount of debt to maintain, because you see it as a part of your identity. You "chose" to have it, believing as you do in your right to "choose", when all of these economic and cultural tokens come from a need that is contrived by all the marketing and PR firms of the Western world. This is the mainstream. All of this superstructural scaffolding put into place by a relative handful of bourgeois actors, who belong to the same fraternities as the actors that actually direct the military-industrial personnel who rubber-stamp the wars.

I think it was Roosevelt that warned about the growing influence of the Industrial/military complex on US policy
Eisenhower actually. A republican.
@@Zyo117 Ironic considering that it was Eisenhower who literally toppled Mohammad Mossadegh in Iran, which led to the dictatorship of the Shah and eventually, the Iranian Revolution of 1979.
@@Zyo117 after I'd wrote that I thought I was wrong, that it was actually Eisenhower as you said. Either way, a US president actually warned about the world we are now inhabiting
very well done video, thanks for that!
Great work . O how i wish the average american opens their eyes to all this . Sending love from Bangladesh .
This was a great video!!
Its the US currency, how do you think they keep everbody using Dollars as international currency? Violence.
Or maybe because the U.S. is well-reputed for its creditworthiness and its ability to make good on its long-term obligations.
@aycc-nbh7289 no it is not. Trump threatened all nations that want to dump the dollars
@@aycc-nbh7289why not both
@@troyarrington5492Maybe because there are few, if any, rivals that could match the US’s creditworthiness and ability to export their currency at scale.

Just to let you know. Your work is amazing. Wake these mofos up.
Coming to the realization that we, the United States of America, are not the good guys is like a religious deconstruction. It’s a painful process. Once the pieces come together and you see it clearly for the first time, you can never go back to blissful ignorance again.
Best video on the topic!
that when hard there at the end! Great Job JT!
