I'm 64, been a music follower all my life and having just returned to the UK from living abroad many years similarly discovered this band just a few weeks ago. I was surprised they are virtually unheard of in Europe, and then gutted to learn Scott's no longer with us. His musical legacy is however, and what a legacy it is.

There's a Banksy quote that I like. It goes, "Everyone dies twice. The first time when your body dies. The second time the last time someone thinks of you." (That's paraphrasing from memory) This is my first time hearing his music but with the talent he displays and then the emotion he provokes, his second death will still be many years from now, if ever.

This song is one of my fondest memories. I saw Frightened Rabbit live in Orlando in 2014 with my then-girlfriend (who herself is a magical being, gods bless her in all her future endeavors), and this was easily one of the best nights of my life. The band hit this song, and my partner and I danced like fools drunk with joy. Scott was on point that night. We, the world, lost a magical being when he decided to make his own exit. I'm crying right now for all the bittersweet associations this song unearths.
Rest in peace, Scott. You're safe now. Nobody's gonna throw stones at your back where you are now. Swim on! We'll catch up with you in our own time.

I had to stop watching this video for the last 7+ years because it instantly reminds of the horrors I was escaping with it at that time. When every wretched day made death sound like a warm blanket. And I'd put this song on. And hear the words. And see the band. And the people dancing. And the lovely little lights that lit their dark room, the way it lit my dark room. And I'd tell myself to keep swimming. No sleep? Keep going. No escape? Keep surviving. All alone? Live to change it. Day after day. Every single day. For a year.
To Scott and the boys and everyone who lifted a finger to help them do it... thank you for keeping me alive.

One of the few songs in modern music that I can honestly say changed my life, perhaps even saved it. It’s hard to listen to the Rabbit since Scott’s death; water, drowning, and suicide references abound. I think he left behind some of the most genuinely great songs I’ve ever heard.

This is my favorite FR video. In many parts of this he is looking directly into the camera and thereby you. As he is looking at you I’m thinking of what a talented singer he is, and such an amazing songwriter who has never touched my soul like anyone else has. And I think how healthy he looks. But then I think is he ok here? Is the depression here? Is he struggling? Is he ok? Is he running to his addictions? For some reason I’m thinking these things, whether it’s right or wrong, because he is looking directly at the camera/me. I’m thinking of the backwards walk. I’m thinking of the ticks and inconsistencies. I’m thinking of the winter of mixed drinks. I’m thinking of the will and a brick. I’m thinking of I’m in love with you and I can’t admit it yet. Thinking of it all.
I hope you are at peace Scott. God Bless.

    [Verse 1]
    I salute at the threshold
Of the North Sea of my mind
And I nod to the boredom
That drove me here to face the tide
    [Pre-Chorus]
    And I swim
    I swim, oh swim
    [Verse 2]
Dip a toe in the ocean
Oh, how it hardens and it numbs
The rest of me is a version of man
    Built to collapse in crumbs
And if I hadn't come now
    To the coast to disappear
I may have died in a landslide
Of rocks and hopes and fears
    [Chorus]
So I swim until you can't see land
Swim until you can't see land
Swim until you can't see land
Are you a man? Are you a bag of sand?
Swim until you can't see land
Swim until you can't see land
Swim until you can't see land
Are you a man? Are you a bag of sand?
    [Interlude]
    [Verse 3]
    Up to my knees now
Do I wade? Do I dive?
The sea has seen my like before
Though it's my first and perhaps last time
    Let's call me a baptist
Call this a drowning of the past
She is there on the shoreline
    Throwing stones at my back
    [Chorus]
So I swim until you can't see land
Swim until you can't see land
Swim until you can't see land
Are you a man? Are you a bag of sand?
Swim until you can't see land
Swim until you can't see land
Swim until you can't see land
Are you a man? Are you a bag of sand?
    [Interlude]
    [Bridge]
And the water is taller than me
And the land is a marker line
All I have is a body
Adrift in water, salt and sky
    [Chorus]
So I swim until you can't see land
Swim until you can't see land
Swim until you can't see land
Are you a man? Are you a bag of sand?
Swim until you can't see land
Swim until you can't see land
Swim until you can't see land
Are you a man? Are you a bag of sand?
Swim until you can't see land
Swim until you can't see land
Swim until you can't see land
Are you a man? Are you a bag of sand?
    [Outro]
Are you a man? Are you a bag of sand?
Are you a man? Are you a bag of sand?
Are you a man? Are you a bag of sand?
Are you a man? Are you a bag of sand?
Are you a man? Are you a bag of sand?
Are you a man? Are you a bag of sand?
Are you a man? Are you a bag of sand?
Are you a man? Are you a bag of sand?

There are great memories tied to this song. I hear his voice and there is still a sinking feeling.

I dreamed about Scott last week. There was a memorial on a busy street corner, and all the flowers at the local shop were sold out and already spread on the pavement, several feet high, and I thought that there weren't enough flowers in the world to express the sorrow of his loss. How many of us have gotten through our worst days thanks to the music of Frightened Rabbit? RIP, man.

My favorite new band of the last 5 years!! Thank you Frightened Rabbit for making me believe that "Indie" music can actually also mean great songwriting and not just a goal of "trying" to be different for differences sake.

He left his thoughts on the beach in this song. So we understood the pain he was going through. It is a sad shame he could not have left more.

There should totally be a chuck reunion where the cast gets together again. also like every few years chuck fans should get together and binge watch the show in a week and have tours that show significant places in the show in real life.
