- Skies of Arcadia continues, as we set out to rescue our friends, but it turns out the journey may be a lot more dangerous than expected, as we encounter giant monsters, fearsome pirates, and a very grumpy new friend...
Skies of Arcadia is tragically completely unavailable to purchase on any currently existing store, and was also never released on PC. If you want to play it yourself, your options are the GameCube and Dreamcast versions, which were the only releases. Sorry.

It could happen if he forgot about something but it would be minor.
We'll see about that. I'm a lil data hound about this game. However, he has been doing extremely well and given accurate information. Don't tell him I said this, but I hope he gets Eterni'd in the Southern Ocean.

I see why Drachma is supposed to be focused on the more physical side of combat, yes.
Jon just blithely ignores the dude rolling around on the ground.
"Keep your eyes down, there's some sort of -bear- tantrum over there. Probably selling something."
The moment Drachma joined I immediately thought "This man is going to die for us isn't he?" this was only reinforced on seeing his level.
The level made me think there's a time where we run around without him to catch up to his lv
One nice touch I noticed, the game did mention Little Jack turned on a dime, which is a hint to the right choice to make in the air-fight
My only complaint about this series is that there isn't more right now.
I'll add that Jon doesn't inspect things more often, there's some cool backstory available when you inspect
I love that the captain slapped Vyse on the head for doing the silly handshake! What a small, but charming touch!
oh god I had forgotten about memory cards. The horrors of a corrupted memory card
In my mind I was like, "no, get Drachma Charge! That's the 'I have all of the Spirit, your argument is invalid' button!" Seriously, if you get Charge the minute you get Drachma, I think the turn after you can just start raining Alpha Storms on everything and invalidating just about every random encounter with minimal effort.
Also, free tip in case Jon (not me, the other one) doesn't mention it, all the party members learn magic at different rates. Vyse learns Fire magic the fastest, Aika being the all-rounder she is learns everything pretty quick but generally learns Green magic quicker than the others and Drachma, being the physical monster he is, takes two eternities, forever and a day to learn even the basic stuff but technically he learns his Blue spells the fastest.
Oh, I didn't realize they had different speeds of learning stuff (but had a feeling it was like that)! I've been playing for some hours myself. It kinda doesn't matter that much because I find matching the element is so important so they learn whatever the encounter wants them to learn lol.
Always have to keep the original weapons. Glad to see Jon thinks the same.
It´s great when the game allows you to upgrade that sentimental starting junk into a great end-game weapon.
i remember when playing dragon age 2, i sold a characters starting shield and much later she goes "Yeah remember when you sold my dead husband's shield?"

Drachma has the stats of a character you don't get to keep, big level advantage, crazy attack.
1) Skies of Arcadia is one of my favourite games ever and my favourite JRPG. Its THE BEST adventure.

Little theory on the naming structure for the game. Im guessing people who made this possibly had difficulty understanding the difference between Latin and Greek.
Vyse in Latin could be "vice" meaning " in place of" you're him you are playing in place of him.
Akia variation of Kia in Greek meaning "pure or difficult"
Drachmae, Greek(modern at the time) meaning "money".
I'm guessing sticking with that naming theme is why Akia's special moves are letters from the Greek alphabet.
Drachma could also be interpreted as "a hand full of arrows" since he can take alot of damage that also seems to fit.
Vice also means “immoral behavior”, which makes sense considering he’s a pirate
that would be a better theory if her name weren't actually Aika
Aika could also mean "If" in Greek; Which is a pretty famous reply the Spartans used to as a response to Phillp II (Alexander The Great's dad) before he somewhat conquered southern Greece. In that context it could be seen as obstinate or unyielding. Good shout out!
Remember when they moved to the GameCube they got an extra 44% storage space on the GameCube discs over the Dreamcast ones.
The animation of the two sneaky merchants talking at 27:23 has more charm and soul than any triple-A game published in the last couple years

A reveal of what your age might be.
Yes, gaming back then was quite different compared to now with regards to how saving game-progress was like. Not to mention the times how said memory cards could be prone to corruption destroying EVERY saved data for all games.
Even more, memory cards used to have quite limited storage capacity so you also better not have too many games, if you didn't want a stack of memorycards you'd have to label.
This may be my favourite series you've done in a long, long time
Somehow this gem of a game had passed me by until now but I am absolutely loving everything I see here

So weird that Vyse's own mom doesn't come to see him and Aika off...especially when her husband was already captured.
Skies of Arcadia was truly cursed. The first console flopped, and the second console sold quite badly.
I’m loving this series! I can’t wait to see what happens next, it’s very gripping, especially for it being my first time hearing about the game!
This has been so charming and wonderful so far, just as amazing as I expected. It's a crime it's not been rereleased on current hardware.

it's cool to see jon playing this, both because it's a game that I've sadly had little opportunity to play, and because I don't often see him play JRPGs on the channel much; tbh I had thought they just weren't his thing, was a bit surprising to see this one on his best of all time list
He has showcased something from the Xenoblade series.
Personally, I however don't know too many JRPGs that would catch my interest, admittedly.
I'm pretty sure that the little hook thing that is on the pommel of Vyse's cutlass is what you shoot out to catch the moonfish. You can see it in the box art, it's like a little trick hook.
Man, can we get a PC port of this game already?

Ship to ship combat looks like a nice change of pace from regular battles, needing to try and predict the next few turns and being locked in to your choices.
I sure hope there isn't an enemy ship that activates a Reflect or Counter ability at the start of a chain of attacks and then you end up watching as you kinda take yourself out 😉

You know I think I once in my teens started to write a story that was remarkably similar to this game, sky pirates and floating islands and all. I never knew the game existed until you started talking about it a while ago tho. I accidentally did a plagiarism.
The Dreamcast was such a great console with so many incredible games, it's a shame it didn't sell well
I actually grind a bit before I get to Sailor's Island, if I haven't done so on Shrine Island, just so I can maybe buy something from the asian looking trader at the hotel.
I never used the Captain's Stripes on the Little Jack. While not using them makes fights with the ship a bit more difficult, especially the later ones, I keep them for the other ship. Yes, it has much more HP, but it also get's in much more dangerous fights.

Jon! I keep meaning to tell you, and I keep forgetting: Yes, you're pronouncing Aika's name correctly. In the original version, it's spelled "アイカ", whose three katakana characters are pronounced _ah-ee-ka._ 🙂 BTW, it's really endearing how much you clearly love this game from your youth. You know it like you know a Bethesda game. 😊

Crusty is a term for an irritable old man but he has a metal arm so she switched to rusty.

The quest continues. It's weird to think this is the 74th time I've humbly requested that Jon play Star Control 2. It feels like it's been a year since I started, but nope. Only since the third of January.
I think that's more a reflection on how long 2024 has felt, rather than this request-quest being any sort of time sucking burden.
When it comes to humbly requesting that Jon play his favorite game of all time (regardless of whether or not he's actually heard of it or ever played it before), my burden is light as a feather.
