      It really depends on the creator
      High end Sony tv process and gives good enough hdr even though content has sitty hdr like house of the dragon
      On the other hand mid range tvs can't do that extra processing and only gives what creators intended to (can't say anything about color accuracy on mid range tvs)

    • @cornobla

      Watching this vid on new iPad pro with XDR display, i see almost no noteworthy difference in quality, except some lights just being brighter but no more texture in the already washed out (overexposed) areas. Esp. the fire doesn’t look better but unrealistically bright. For real “HDR” I would expect the dynamic range of visuals not being *stretched* but actually *enhanced* beyond actual limitations (like at 6:42). Edit: Frankly, turning on the “white point reduction” (which kind of turns off HDR displaying at most) or rather having that dimming on pause (youtube app) does indeed improve the display of bright areas by giving back some texture. This is strange…

    • @cornobla
      @cornobla Месяц назад

      On the other hand the scene at 6:20 definitely looks better on the left, so I think some of the problems might be lying in the codec (dynamic range being too wide?) or youtube (app) itself 🤷🏻‍♂️ . I guess I need to know more about how HDR video content is actually created and processed…

    • @cornobla
      @cornobla Месяц назад

      So from what I can see in the second half of the video using the shade which you get by tapping on the video in the app (my first comment was written at the middle of the video), i’d assume that the actual ingame graphics on HDR screens would definitely look better. But rather refrain from HDR on SDR screens as you would need another shader or whatever compressing the dynamic range properly again, but either could look worse (uncompressed would result in over- and underexposure, compression might result in gray-ish flat contrasts and could have impact on the performance).

  • @antiHUMANDesigns
    @antiHUMANDesigns Год назад +44

    7:19 quite a perfect demonstration of the difference.
    Overall, one thing I've noticed is how much better partial reflections and partial transparency looks.
    Any time you have a partial reflection on some material that is not black, the reflection is crushed in dynamic range, but this doesn't happen in HDR.
    However, the fact that HDR allows you to have extremely bright areas that still have very strong color is something you need to get used to seeing. The first time you see it, it looks exaggerated because we're all used to bright areas being washed out in terms of color. You can see this on the fire in that game, for example.

  • @shirakawamaseru
    @shirakawamaseru 11 месяцев назад +5

    Why does the SDR look so bad? I never seen that poor and washed out image quality ever on any game. It looks like the SDR was forcefully crippled.
    This is, no joke, the worst SDR i have ever seen. Games from 15 years ago look better in SDR. I don't know whats going on here, but SDR doesn't look that bad, not even close.
    I took a screenshot from the Fire Scene and it took me like 15 seconds of photo editing to make the SDR look at least as good as the HDR. So it is not that its impossible with SDR, for whatever reason, this just looks horribly bad.
    The difference in this video has nothing to do with HDR vs. SDR, they clearly use completely different Gamma, Contrast, Color Saturation and so on.

  • @billhancock8881
    @billhancock8881 3 месяца назад

    Comparing HDR with an sRGB video is impossible. The only way to compare HDR vs SDR is by videoing two monitors, one HDR monitor + HDR content, the other SDR monitor + SDR content.
    This is because when you capture either you capture a 10 bit color space of 8 bit. This video looks like it is captured in 8 bit, which means the native HDR content gets squished to 0-255, and the native 8 bit content gets squished to 16-235. If you turn off HDR and capture with 8 bit colors... then the SDR and HDR content will look IDENTICAL.
    So... you are basically just showing how you misconfigured your monitor for SDR content and now it looks bad. It's a common issue, annoying to fix, and the monitor should just be smart and adjust SDR content automatically, but... that's life.

    so if you like one tv setting more than the other why not make the other look like the one you like? I'm always watching videos of tv's where the contrast color and tint can easily be adjusted on the 'lesser' tv.
    turn up the shadow, contrast and color on the sdr, pinch the tint to red and add red and some blue to the white balance, in the end the luminance range won't be the same but you can still get closer

    • @GamingTech-YouTube

      That's HDR vs SDR. There is more behind not just changing TV settings

      @@GamingTech-RUclips I know what it is, and your calibrations are good but to show the limitations of SDR you should try to make it as close to the preferred HDR look as possible in order to show it's limits. I'm surprised I've never seen someone comparing 2 screens and say okay well I like this one let's try to make the other one look like that and show how far you can go, a lot of the times you can really match two screens of course we're talking about SDR and HDR and there's limits if the HDR excalibrated properly, but why not try and really demonstrate the walls you hit with SDR. I'm not saying you should have done this in this video, the demo is pretty spot on of what you typically see

    I'm watching this on a 4K HDR display and... yeah, you can really notice the difference, but I wouldn't say stronger colors is night and day. Yeah, dark places are darker without losing vision, which is the most impressive thing, and fire looks amazing in those dark places, but other than that? Nothing that I couldn't get using Reshade.
