hey lovely! I use half butter and half vegetable shortening. its the addition of vegetable shortening that makes it nice and pale :) to have an even paler effect, use all vegetable shortening.
Hi lovely! Working with cold cakes that have had at least 8 hours to cool in the fridge after baking will crumb much less. It also helps to microwave your frosting slightly (5 seconds or so) so it is smoother and softer. The harder the frosting is, the more pressure you add on the spatula to move the frosting around. This can disturb the crumb layer much more, compared to soft frosting, which takes almost no effort to move around :)

Most cake decorating supply stores would sell cake boxes that are tall enough, usually 6 inches tall :) they are easy to transport as well, the taller they are, the more they weight, so the better their center to gravity. The problems happen when they are super tall but super skinny. That's when you need to start popping in dowels to keep it stable.

hi Elsa, yes I do. When I need to make black buttercream, I add in dark chocolate ganache first and then I add in black gel food colour.
