Instead of Neuschwanstein visit Burg Hohenzollern, or Eltz and Cochem. When you visit Berlin make sure you visit Potsdam if you like castles, old architecture and German cuisine
Hohenzollern, Eltz and Cochem are very cool. I visited all of them. But you cannot beat the scenery surrounding Neuschwanstein. Agree on Mainz though, it should not be on a Top 10 list.
I totally agree with the comments that say that Hamburg is missing on this list. Hamburg is often rated by Germans as the best city for a good reason. And if you go to Hamburg don’t forget to visit Lübeck!

I was a bit perplexed as to why Mainz was recommended by this video and not the city of Trier in the same state, which is even older and even more important than Mainz. After all Trier has multiple UNESCO World heritage sites.

@DougVale Why always big cities? Neuschwanstein is also overrated. The mountains and nature around it is much more beautiful. Stuttgart is certainly not a place for tourists, Stuttgart is one of the ugliest places in Germany. Also Cologne or Berlin. Black Forest, Sylt, Kiel, Konstanz or Lindau on Lake Constance, Bavarian Forest ... these are beautiful destinations. When I go on vacation somewhere I don't want to see cities that all look the same. Especially Stuttgart, Cologne or Berlin
I would have rather made a top 16 list since we have got 16 states in Germany 😁 My personal "top-list", if I only include just one sight per state (actually really hard!): Schleswig-Holstein: Heligoland, because it is very walkable and you have got a wonderful scenery plus historic places concentrated. Hamburg (city-state, so no explanations needed) Mecklenburg-Vorpommern: Rügen (like the video tells) Lower Saxony: Lüneburg (nice old-town) with its surrounding heath Bremen (another city-state) Saxony-Anhalt: Wernigerode on the sidelines of the Harz with its Brocken (reachable from Wernigerode by steam train), because of its scenic old-town and nature Brandenburg: Potsdam, the Versailles of Prussia Berlin (the last city-state, also it is mentioned in the video) Saxony: Dresden, like in the video Thuringia: Eisenach, nice old-town and above the town, there is the Wartburg (Martin Luther translated the Bible into German here). Bavaria: Munich, like the video tells you. Many museums, Oktoberfest, all stereotypes of Germany 😉 Baden-Württemberg: totally agree with the choice of Black Forest! Rhineland-Palatinate: Trier, because it was for a time the capital of the Roman Empire, many Roman sights (porta nigra, Constantine Basilica etc). Saarland: Saarschleife (loop or bow of the river Saar) Northrhine-Westfalia: Cologne as mentioned by the video Hesse: Frankfurt am Main, because of it is contrasting medieval (election and coronation place of emperors of HRE) and modern roles (1848 it was place of the first German parliament; finance city, central bank of the EU, Mainhattan; biggest German airport)
Being from Baden-Württemberg, I can definitely tell you that there are more interesting places than the Black Forest. Lake Constance is totally missing in so many lists and it’s definitely in the top 3, if not the most beautiful place in all over Germany. Besides that the upper rhine valley is so underrated. In the video they recommend the wine from Rheinhessen, which is a peace of pee compared to the wines of the southwest. And none of the foreign tourists will probably ever see this amazing nature on the old Rhein, which we call German Amazonian.

Yes, Bavaria is something fairy tale like. But not to include Hamburg is really a mistake. I think she did concentrate on this castle, Middle Ages stuff, I really love it living once in Tübingen. But Hamburg has its own flavor, inexplicable different, somehow energetic and a mixture of all somehow slightly eccentric. It's interesting but because of the people not because of the architecture. Our city was destroyed during the WW2. It's not the fairy tale anymore, town hall is beautiful and there is some areas with middle Ages architecture. Not very much although. But we have a lot of parks, the river and Alster, the ship trips is something to experience. The best although to go through the city and to breath this unique atmosphere. It's just something else. By the way Lüneburg and Lübeck are pearls to find, the real fairy tales beauties and not far from Hamburg.

I only visited Germany 3 times, but I have been to 6 of these top 10 places. I visited Cologne, Rothenburg, The Black Forest, Munich, Füssen, and Berlin. Also, when travel by train, I went through Mainz and Dresden, but unfortunately did not make a stop there. Wish I will be back visiting again soon! From what I heard and read from various tour guides, I am a bit surprised that the following two cities did not make this top 10 list: Hamburg and Nürberg.

I love Germany and can’t wait to travel there again. I love to get a car and just go! Mostly in the south. I don’t care for Berlin personally. Plus Austria and Switzerland and France. My dream locations to be.
Good picks in there and definitely agree with the number one Berlin. 👍 I only missed Hamburg and maybe Frankfurt on this list. Heidelberg would have also been a nice pick. The castle offers a lot for tourists.

Absolutely. Bad Mergentheim is just around the corner of Rothenburg and equally beautiful, much less tourists. I'm a little concerned people catching on to Mainz. I live here, it's not that great, stay away :)

Instead of going to Neuschwanstein I would recommend going to Linderhof. It was also built under the command of Ludwig ll. but is smaller. However it's less crowded ,the architecture is as beautiful and it has a beautiful surrounding parc. And instead of Munich go to Nürnberg. The Altstadt is way more beautiful and less crowded and it's got a castle!

Berlin is not famous for what they achieved . They are famous for the things that happened there 80 years ago and that they are the capital. Berlin never achieved anything positive. Only costing monumental amounts of money which are payed by 4 federal states. The only ones who have a positive record. For example Hamburg. Green space, water and living quality. All of it is more at Hamburg. Berlin has some cool spots, but if it was not the capital it would be the worst out of three big cities in germany

Cologne is worth a trip if for no other reason than to appreciate the sheer beauty of the Cathedral. Loved Schleswig in the north and its quaint old fishing village of Holm, and we just stumbled into the truly picturesque medieval village of Besigheim, near Stuttgart. And of course, Fuessen in the extreme south with its castles. So much in Germany to enjoy - would love to cruise the Rhine.

Just got back from a week in Berlin. There's no nightlife at all until 2021 due to the virus (but that didn't worry me as I'm old). Took a day trip to Potsdam and fell in love with it. Next place I aim to visit is Hamburg although the hotels and air fares look more expensive than Berlin
And when you are in Hamburg, visit the botanical garden Planten un Blomen as well as the Miniatur Wunderland, world's largest model railway. The garden is best in the warm season, the railway display has many details (including funny ones) and one section which is responsible for another world record: world's largest model airport. There are fine museums in Hamburg, too.

Sylt (even though parts of it are full with rich people, it's beautiful and there are lots of normal people as well. Especially List is great) 1. Some odd choices here. For example, I think Mainz should be replaced by Trier which is in the same state but has preserved more of its Roman heritage. I also wouldn't put Cologne onto that list as long as there are far nicer alternatives such as Nürnberg or Heidelberg. As far as castles are concerned I'd pick one of the the genuine ones like Burg Eltz over Neuschwanstein - regions like the Palatinate are full of castles and castle ruins.

I mean Mainz is a beautiful city, but I don’t think that it’s special enough for the top ten. Instead of Mainz I would put Trier in the top ten, as the oldest city in Germany and the former Roman capital city of the northern territories of the Western Roman Empire. 😄 Furthermore Cologne and the Castle Neuschwanstein are highly overrated. Instead I would take Hamburg and the Burg Eltz. 😄
This list is not based on someone that has really seen Germany entirely, of course it is hard to do if you are not living here and also the fact that this kind of "Top destination" videos are very subjective to the creator of the video. Some people like cities and history more, others like nature and castles. I am currently doing several videos from Germany since I've been traveling around the country since 2015. There are so many beautiful places to see around here that a top 10 list cannot cut it, however if I would have do make one based on the places I have visited, I would include Hamburg, Mittlerheintal, Mosel river, Saxon Switzerland region and the Eibsee lake.

Appreciate your pronunciation attempt, but most of them went down as Anglo-French, which were harder to decipher without looking at the spelling. I definitely enjoyed the bmw museum in Munich. The hofbräuhaus is also a nice visit. In Berlin, I highly recommend The Bird restaurant, I don’t recall exactly which burger it was, but it definitely was one of the best I had in a long time.
I see commenters preferring a different selection of sights to visit. Thing is: Germany is full of beautiful landscapes, scenic castles and charming old towns, but due to the length of this video, only a VERY select few could be mentioned. The video could easily be two hours long and still not remotely point out everything. I for one was pleasantly surprised by your mentioning of Rügen, since that Island is often missing in travel guides.

I have visited all of them except Mainz (Which I was never interested in) and Rügen. I would say Hamburg definetely deserved a place in this list, more than Cologne.

Landsberg am Lech, Lindau, Füssen and Kempten are city's that I can highly recommend. Also the smaller castle next to Neuschwanstein is also really cool. I'm German so I'm a little bit biased but their are a lot of smaller towns and city's that a very cool. I'm not a big fan of large city's. I live my hole live in a small town so the big city is scary to me.
Same here, I grew up in a small town in Germany but lately I have learned to like big cities aswell, they used to scare me when I was younger but now they are very interestig and fascinating to me. But you are right, many small places are very charming, authentic and beautiful.

Instead of Cologne go to Hamburg. Instead of Mainz go to Bremen or Nürnberg. By visiting the Black Forest visit Freiburg and Konstanz. Instead of Neuschwanstein visit Burg Hohenzollern, or Eltz and Cochem. When you visit Berlin make sure you visit Potsdam if you like castles, old architecture and German cuisine
Hohenzollern, Eltz and Cochem are very cool. I visited all of them. But you cannot beat the scenery surrounding Neuschwanstein.

I was a bit perplexed as to why Mainz was recommended by this video and not the city of Trier in the same state, which is even older and even more important than Mainz. After all Trier has multiple UNESCO World heritage sites.

Was capital of the Holy Roman Empire for a while.
A Pope is buried inside The Dom (this church is almost a 1000 years old).

Very easy to travel to either Berlin or Munich from here via Deutsche Bahn.

@DougVale Why always big cities? Neuschwanstein is also overrated. The mountains and nature around it is much more beautiful. Stuttgart is certainly not a place for tourists, Stuttgart is one of the ugliest places in Germany. Also Cologne or Berlin. Black Forest, Sylt, Kiel, Konstanz or Lindau on Lake Constance, Bavarian Forest ... these are beautiful destinations. When I go on vacation somewhere I don't want to see cities that all look the same. Especially Stuttgart, Cologne or Berlin

I lived in Bamberg when the American army base was there and then I went back for a visit. I think its one of the best cities in all of Germany.

My personal "top-list", if I only include just one sight per state (actually really hard!):
Schleswig-Holstein: Heligoland, because it is very walkable and you have got a wonderful scenery plus historic places concentrated.
Hamburg (city-state, so no explanations needed)
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern: Rügen (like the video tells)
Lower Saxony: Lüneburg (nice old-town) with its surrounding heath
Bremen (another city-state)
Saxony-Anhalt: Wernigerode on the sidelines of the Harz with its Brocken (reachable from Wernigerode by steam train), because of its scenic old-town and nature
Brandenburg: Potsdam, the Versailles of Prussia
Berlin (the last city-state, also it is mentioned in the video)
Saxony: Dresden, like in the video
Thuringia: Eisenach, nice old-town and above the town, there is the Wartburg (Martin Luther translated the Bible into German here).
Bavaria: Munich, like the video tells you. Many museums, Oktoberfest, all stereotypes of Germany 😉
Baden-Württemberg: totally agree with the choice of Black Forest!
Rhineland-Palatinate: Trier, because it was for a time the capital of the Roman Empire, many Roman sights (porta nigra, Constantine Basilica etc).
Saarland: Saarschleife (loop or bow of the river Saar)
Northrhine-Westfalia: Cologne as mentioned by the video
Hesse: Frankfurt am Main, because of it is contrasting medieval (election and coronation place of emperors of HRE) and modern roles (1848 it was place of the first German parliament; finance city, central bank of the EU, Mainhattan; biggest German airport)
Being from Baden-Württemberg, I can definitely tell you that there are more interesting places than the Black Forest. Lake Constance is totally missing in so many lists and it’s definitely in the top 3, if not the most beautiful place in all over Germany.
Besides that the upper rhine valley is so underrated. In the video they recommend the wine from Rheinhessen, which is a peace of pee compared to the wines of the southwest. And none of the foreign tourists will probably ever see this amazing nature on the old Rhein, which we call German Amazonian.

Yes, Bavaria is something fairy tale like.
But not to include Hamburg is really a mistake. I think she did concentrate on this castle, Middle Ages stuff, I really love it living once in Tübingen.
But Hamburg has its own flavor, inexplicable different, somehow energetic and a mixture of all somehow slightly eccentric. It's interesting but because of the people not because of the architecture. Our city was destroyed during the WW2. It's not the fairy tale anymore, town hall is beautiful and there is some areas with middle Ages architecture. Not very much although.
But we have a lot of parks, the river and Alster, the ship trips is something to experience.
The best although to go through the city and to breath this unique atmosphere. It's just something else.
By the way Lüneburg and Lübeck are pearls to find, the real fairy tales beauties and not far from Hamburg.

It definitely is! Schwerin and Stade are two more very beautiful towns within the greater Hamburg area!
I only visited Germany 3 times, but I have been to 6 of these top 10 places. I visited Cologne, Rothenburg, The Black Forest, Munich, Füssen, and Berlin. Also, when travel by train, I went through Mainz and Dresden, but unfortunately did not make a stop there. Wish I will be back visiting again soon!

Absolutely. Bad Mergentheim is just around the corner of Rothenburg and equally beautiful, much less tourists. I'm a little concerned people catching on to Mainz. I live here, it's not that great, stay away :)

Swap Neuschwanstein with Burg Eltz, Mainz with Nürnberg, and Cologne with Hamburg. Also worth a trip: Lübeck, Quedlinburg, Harz Mountains.
Instead of going to Neuschwanstein I would recommend going to Linderhof. It was also built under the command of Ludwig ll. but is smaller. However it's less crowded ,the architecture is as beautiful and it has a beautiful surrounding parc. And instead of Munich go to Nürnberg. The Altstadt is way more beautiful and less crowded and it's got a castle!

For party and lovely persons travel to cologne while Fasching
Cologne is worth a trip if for no other reason than to appreciate the sheer beauty of the Cathedral. Loved Schleswig in the north and its quaint old fishing village of Holm, and we just stumbled into the truly picturesque medieval village of Besigheim, near Stuttgart. And of course, Fuessen in the extreme south with its castles. So much in Germany to enjoy - would love to cruise the Rhine.

Just got back from a week in Berlin. There's no nightlife at all until 2021 due to the virus (but that didn't worry me as I'm old). Took a day trip to Potsdam and fell in love with it. Next place I aim to visit is Hamburg although the hotels and air fares look more expensive than Berlin
And when you are in Hamburg, visit the botanical garden Planten un Blomen as well as the Miniatur Wunderland, world's largest model railway. The garden is best in the warm season, the railway display has many details (including funny ones) and one section which is responsible for another world record: world's largest model airport. There are fine museums in Hamburg, too.

For one who lives in Cgn it’s nice to see someone recommend to visit cologne. But I think Hamburg is missing for sure !
Some odd choices here. For example, I think Mainz should be replaced by Trier which is in the same state but has preserved more of its Roman heritage. I also wouldn't put Cologne onto that list as long as there are far nicer alternatives such as Nürnberg or Heidelberg. As far as castles are concerned I'd pick one of the the genuine ones like Burg Eltz over Neuschwanstein - regions like the Palatinate are full of castles and castle ruins.

I mean Mainz is a beautiful city, but I don’t think that it’s special enough for the top ten. Instead of Mainz I would put Trier in the top ten, as the oldest city in Germany and the former Roman capital city of the northern territories of the Western Roman Empire. 😄
Furthermore Cologne and the Castle Neuschwanstein are highly overrated. Instead I would take Hamburg and the Burg Eltz. 😄

This list is not based on someone that has really seen Germany entirely, of course it is hard to do if you are not living here and also the fact that this kind of "Top destination" videos are very subjective to the creator of the video. Some people like cities and history more, others like nature and castles. I am currently doing several videos from Germany since I've been traveling around the country since 2015. There are so many beautiful places to see around here that a top 10 list cannot cut it, however if I would have do make one based on the places I have visited, I would include Hamburg, Mittlerheintal, Mosel river, Saxon Switzerland region and the Eibsee lake.

I definitely enjoyed the bmw museum in Munich. The hofbräuhaus is also a nice visit. In Berlin, I highly recommend The Bird restaurant, I don’t recall exactly which burger it was, but it definitely was one of the best I had in a long time.

Thing is: Germany is full of beautiful landscapes, scenic castles and charming old towns, but due to the length of this video, only a VERY select few could be mentioned. The video could easily be two hours long and still not remotely point out everything.
I for one was pleasantly surprised by your mentioning of Rügen, since that Island is often missing in travel guides.

I think Heidelberg is missing
I have visited all of them except Mainz (Which I was never interested in) and Rügen. I would say Hamburg definetely deserved a place in this list, more than Cologne.
Thank you for the list. I would add Würzburg if you plan to go to Rothenburg, But if you have time only for one of those - I have a walking tour around the entire Rothenburg on my channel. Hope you will enjoy it.

Landsberg am Lech, Lindau, Füssen and Kempten are city's that I can highly recommend. Also the smaller castle next to Neuschwanstein is also really cool. I'm German so I'm a little bit biased but their are a lot of smaller towns and city's that a very cool. I'm not a big fan of large city's. I live my hole live in a small town so the big city is scary to me.
Same here, I grew up in a small town in Germany but lately I have learned to like big cities aswell, they used to scare me when I was younger but now they are very interestig and fascinating to me. But you are right, many small places are very charming, authentic and beautiful.
