On the other hand the sea can wipe us all out at any moment, so it all balances out!
the thing i like the most about this is how Monarchies in all of Indonesia might have been retained thus making them the same as the more in the North Malaya.
Honestly, I don't think that's very likely. The Dutch tended to be relatively tolerant of local power structures, focusing mostly on trade and profits. If the Dutch didn't retain a local monarchy, whatever the reason might be, it's very unlikely that another colonial power would have.
early indonesia did keep their monarchies but those monarchies become equal as provinces. then some regional revolt by communists killed some of the monarchies and they lost the special status. modern indonesia today still has one monarchy in the special province of yogyakarta, ruled by a sultan. imagine that, sultan inside a unitary republic.
@@SanzzzzzzzzzAnytime before the 1960s By that point, the communists have become so powerful to pressure the government to abolish the special status of the many local monarchies The Sultan of Yogyakarta retained the special status due to how influential and how important the sultan himself is seen on helping Indonesia's independence struggle
It kinda freaks me out that every single althistory I’ve watched at some point has given his praises to Emperor Tigerstar, but I have never seen a single video of his, how good is he?
I always say “that if someone is making money some were a Dutch person is making a profit off it”, and Dutch history can be summed up as “It’s nothing personal, just business.”
I personally think that a significant portion of the Dutch Refugees and traders would go to Brandenburg Prussia The Great Elector Fredrick William specifically tried to emulate the Dutch trading empire. I imagine he would jump to lure as many of the Dutch to build that dream. Brandenburg-Prussia is a large majority Protestant state with significant coastal access. It is also a nation set up to grew into a great power given it would achieve this in our timeline within a century from this divergence point.
one very important thing that the dutch did very closely to the start of this timeline is that when charles x of sweden had copenhagen under siege the dutch rescued the city with their fleet without the dutch the city would likely fall meaning denmark (and norway) is now counquered by sweden which was charles x intention and no one exepct the dutch could really opose this counquest since england where in a civil war and sweden already was at war with austria brandenburg poland and russia and none of them could challange the swedish navy this results in a much stronges sweden if they could keep hold of denmark and would likely result in a better peace with the anti swedish coalition with maybe another peace of the baltic taken
In our timeline there were already tons of Dutch settlers migrating to Polish Pommerania to flee the war thanks to Polish tolerance, so I could imagine the Dutch merchants fleeing to Danzing or Courland
I may not be familiar with colonial history in Indonesia past, Dutch took over for hundreds of years until Japan popped up I feel like it's weird to assume the British would just automatically be able to take over all of it
it's not instantly, first the british take a much smaller part of the Dutch east indies then expand their hold of it (probably to compete with another power), like they did in india.
Internally for Britain, it strikes me that the Dutch traders could very well elect to relocate to Glasgow instead of London, with Scotland being Calvinist vs England's Anglicanism. That could have implications on British politics, it could accelerate Glasgow's growth and make it a rival to London for economic power earlier, and potentially Dutch expertise in trade and colonial ventures could allow Scotland to avoid the disastrous Darien scheme which bankrupted the country and led to the Act of Union. I think Union would likely still have happened somehow, but the specific form of when and how would change. In this context perhaps a plausible candidate for Mary's marriage would have been a Scottish noble, since England would have wanted to strengthen the dynastic ties to Scotland to keep them aligned, and then the Scottish Lowlands form the main nucleus for rebellion against James just as the Scottish Highlands were the nucleus for rebellion against the Hanoverians.
Wouldn't it be more likely that the reduced and weakened Netherlands would gravitate towards some of the german states? Dutch is a low franconian language and some german dialects spoken back then are also low franconian, low german has some similarities too. Culturally the Netherlands aren't that different from northern germany either, I could see those regions building closer ties especially with the french being interested in both the Rhineland and parts or all of the Netherlands.
Could you make a video on what if the Gallipoli Campaign was successful? As yesterday, the 25th of April was the 109th anniversary of the Landings at Gallipoli (More famously known as Anzac Day here in Australia, aswell as New Zealand and Turkey)

@13:17 A Danish prince did marry an English heir, just not Mary but her sister, Anne. However, despite their 17 or so attempts at producing an heir, their longest living child only lived to about the age of 11. Imagine the House of Oldenburg on the English throne in 1714 instead of our timeline's 2022 (as the House of Glückburg, Prince Philip's agnatic line, is a branch of the house of Oldenburg). So either the Danish prince Jørgen (or George in English) marries Mary instead or Mary marries a Swede or Prussian. Options seem limited. Random off topic question: How many of y'all have the Mary-marry-merry merger either fully or partially? I think I as an L2 speaker merge Mary and marry but not merry.
At 18:50, you showed the UK with half of Australia, but the only reason they didn't immediately take the other half was due to the dutch claim on it, right?
i believe that would make Portugal try fight more for some of their eastern possessions, they didn't hold that much of land, but without the dutch they would certainly hold some extra land like Ceylon/Sri Lanka(as you mentioned) but also Taiwan/Formosa, this change of focus may also change who will get south Africa, as until this point the portuguese were the ones using the region around the cape town(Cabo da boa Esperança) and a more eastern focused portugal may change brazil a little, without the dutch fucking up the northeast sugar monopoly, portugal may don't get that much of interest in exploring inland brazil and find the gold in Minas Gerais, in fact, if the dutch blowing up like that, maybe portugal even lose interest in get independence from spain, as the dutch taking their colonies was one of the motives, and without that they maybe find less reasons to get revolt, however others great powers could try snatch portuguese possessions like the french or english(on the grounds that they are defending portuguese possessions), the lack of dutch may also fuck japan a little, as the dutch became the only western trading partners with them, so without the dutch, either japan is full isolated, or they would have to reconsider either making trade with Portugal, Spain or England. last but not least, i wonder how much Portugal would be willing to expand in the east, like try to regain possessions on the Persian golf or east Africa, get more spice islands or even find Australia by accident, anyways, cool concept regardless, I really like some of those "eerie" scenarios where something weird happen but everything is the same
hmmm so the super strong France timelines are interesting, because France's hegemony in Europe is insane, but Britain has this godlike colonial empire, and the rise of Prussia and eventually Germany still seems very possible.

Will the kingdom of Brandenburg-Prussia still exists? And what about Poland?
What if the Netherlands conquerd the beneluxian states and united with the japanese Tokugawa shogunate under the Shogun? All of of their colonys would become japanese colonys aswell.
The first ''polder'' in the Netherlands was the Beemster in 1612 and alot more in that period so I think if the Netherlands would've flooded in 1640 they could likely reclaim everything again but it would take many many many years
What if the Reconquista failed? What if Justinian never invades Italy? What if the rising power of Pontus produced a military genius, defeated Rome and established itself as protector of the Greeks?
The French war against the dutch was a great deficite to their coffers. Louis spend an enormous amount on bribing England and the bishop of munster and Cologne.
