    This is one of my favorite movies ever. I also think it's the best love story ever. Dracula couldn't deal with the death of his love, so he rejected God and lived for four centuries, until she was reborn, so he could be with her again... That's real LOVE! " I've crossed oceans of time to find you "- that line gets me every time.

      The film is just nonsense for female audiences in their escapist fantasies of love. It seems like their desire to get out of their ordinary and frustrated lives.
      The book is except for the supernatural part, it shows how a marriage is more realistic.
      Stoker based their relationship on his marriage to Florence Balcombe, offering a much better and more realistic development. We have an idea about a wedding in the Victorian era.
      At the end of the book Mina and Jonathan have a son, as do Florence and Bram Stoker.

    It's interesting that this movie is one of the most faithful adaptations to Bram Stoker's novel.
    Seeing that Lucy has three suitors, I actually dubbed them as The Three Rs. Here is why:
    Cary Elwes played Robin Hood in Robin Hood: Men In Tights
    Richard E Grant played Redferne in Warlock
    and
    Billy Campbell played the Rocketeer in The Rocketeer.

    I went to go see this when it came out in theaters. The lines to get in were stretching all the way outside of the building. We were packed in like sardines in a matter of minutes, so I think some people had to wait for the next showing. This movie was a big deal, and I loved it.

    Also Anthony Hopkins played the priest in the start of the movie too. And since one of Dracula's brides was actually from the transylvania region of Romania, Francid Ford Coppola had her teach all the actors that needed to speak Romanian, to speak Romanian. Such added an authenticity to some of the characters depictions. And in keeping with the original novel, Dracula met the same end by being knifed to death. I do agree that they should have had someone like Luke Evans play Johnathan Harker, rather than Keanu Reeves.

    Funny story: The armor from the opening scene was used as inspiration for one of Kain's armors in Blood Omen. It's called flesh armor and absorbs blood in the air from enemy injuries. There's a nod to the film in the ending credits.

  • @jamlym4974
    @jamlym4974 5 лет назад

    I didn't exactly love this movie. But I can see why it is considered by many to be the best version of the story. Out of Nosferatu (1922), Dracula (1931) and Horror of Dracula (1958), this one stands out as the most cinematic version of the story. But I have to say that it gets pretty weird. Or very weird I should say. The costumes in my opinion while they have some nice attention to detail are a little over the top and silly looking. Don't get me wrong. Usually I want people to be bold and not be afraid to make something that might look silly. But not in this story. I just prefer Dracula wearing black as described in the book. But that's just me. As for Gary Oldman, I guess he was good. Yes, he was good. What can I say?

    This movie was so silly. Especially if you've read the book. And why cast Keanu Reeves as an Englishman? Cary Elwes should have had that part. He had to get Arthur. I can't even watch the movie to this day. Gary Oldman as the hopeless romantic vampire still gives me the giggles. If you've seen the "In Living Color" skit with Jim Carrey, you'll know what I mean. The cornflakes reference! LOL!

    Did anyone actually read the book? I don't believe Coppola did. The book is not a love story, its a straight horror story. There is no relationship between Mina and Dracula, in fact the opening of the movie is not in the book and neither is the Dracula can walk around in daylight part either. Dracula is actually killed by sunlight at the end and as you might have guessed the movie ending is quite different from the book. I do like the movie but it is very different from the book in many ways.
