I never get tired of tool reviews. after almost 30 years in the field I still want more tools...its a constant argument point with my wife..lol..cheers Charles
well you can tell her that "if she stops buying shoes you will stop buying tools"
then she wont argue with you anymore :)
Fuck parts, from now on I'll just buy tools 😂😂
As an Audi tech myself, I did buy a couple of foams myself, and as soon as they hit the toolbox I started using them. I didn’t buy the whole set because some tools I already had. However these tools are great quality and cannot be beat for the price or organization you get with them. For any upcoming Technician I certainly recommend you buy some foams or this set before getting in debt with your local tool truck, because like always these aren’t the only tools you’ll need. Don’t hesitate “your tools are a reflection of your work.”
Man you guys are fast LOL I love it!
Also pay attention in the next new days. I will be announcing a HUGE tool giveaway! AKA That S10 box is going home with one of you guys
HumbleMechanic ..thats awesome
+Trent Butzlaff either way CrewMember will pay for itself with just this discount
That would be fukkn sick to win, i just bought an b7 s4 avant so i could use all the help i can get lol.
Now I'm really glad I subscribed awhile back.. ;)
HumbleMechanic OMG can't wait
This looks like a great deal, especially for $5,500. It seems to have just about everything covered minus your power tools and impact accessories. My only complaint is all the ratchets and breaker bars are pretty short.
I've been following your channel for a good minute now Charles. I am really glad you posted this up and will be adding this tool box/configuration to my collection.
Such a convenient way to get just about everything you need all at once.
Thank you for everything that you do for us!
Sonic Tools make me wish I didn't already have a decently comprehensive set.
Pretty great deal, especially considering the organization.
So beautiful, brings a tear to my eyes
love this box i work an vw ,audi, mercedes and bmw has just about everything you need
Those organization trays make me jealous.... I need to organize my box. If I was starting from scratch I'd buy this in a heartbeat.
It would be EXTREMELY difficult to sneak that one past the wife, covert tool arrival style. "Hey, what was under that tarp that you rolled into the garage?" 'Flowers for you, honey..'
When i ordered mine a semi with a trailer attached came to deliver it in a small ass neighborhood. I know that feeling of trying to hide something 😂
I love your reviews. Sonic Tools, it's growing on me. I love their foam organizers
I don't think I've seen a Sonic setup that I didn't like. You'd think other car manufacturers would follow suit.
Thanks for the tour and the introduction to this kit.👍👍👍
Glad to do it. I wish that techs in the US got something like this as a minimum
Man, i really enjoy tool box review videos like this one. It gives me ideas and inspiration on how to organize my tool box at home. Please keep the content coming. Love the channel, man. =)
This is a great video HM; and I really love how organized the layout of the box looks. But.....all that foam cuts the capacity of the drawer practically in half! But it sure is nice to look at!
That doesn't really matter as the box is catered towards Tools needed specifically for VW/Audi techs. The box contains what they will need to work on those cars.
Charles I think I'm going to have to report this video... for pornography content.
+Aamir Z Hahahah.
The original fidget spinner lol
I've never had any sonic tools in hand but have heard that they are really nice high quality tools. that box looks like it was alot of $$$
i recently started working in a Porsche performance shop, want this set so bad
Flat Rate Master has a couple videos on what tools to have to work on VW and Audi you should check out.You would agree with him on most of them
Thanks for the shout out:)
got a 99 golf vr6 would be in tool heaven with that box. 👌👍
Thanks for the video, I'm surprised you didn't have a first aid kit, like the sonic s10
+Beer stud hahah. I will.
Just completed a water pump and timing belt replacement on a 2002 VW Jetta 2.0 Turbo. So far the most painful repair I have come across (have done several engine swaps and other repairs on Japanese cars and trucks).
+Stanward Oshiro it's a tight space there for sure
HumbleMechanic it took me over an hour to figure out how to remove the passenger side motor mount (to wash it clean). It was Tetris level 100.
That's cool. I was just thinking of ways to keep the engine clean when doing your services without damaging the paint
Seems like a good setup for VWs man... I've never worked with sonic tools personally but it seems as though they are pretty good and a lot of people like the... Thanks for sharing man...
I would love to have a box like this for home use!
you need a long 1/4 ratchet. I made my with the 1/4 breaker bar that's about a foot long, then added the 1/4 ratchet head (I did this a while back, now snap on sells this already made) and it's the handiest ratchet working on audis at the dealership level.
+Brian O'Connor I usually take a socket, put it on the end of the ratchet and then put an extension on the socket. I'll post a pic soon of my set up
HumbleMechanic I've been doing that same thing since I was a boy
I've always been a whimp
I know it would be a good chunk of change but it would be a awesome starting set.
That’s really cool. I do hate the plier handles and the ratchets area little bulky
Awesome setup with a nice assortment of tools for 5500
I have seen some RUclips videos on these tool sets. How are they? How is the quality? I'm a new technician and can't afford snap on. Just trying to get a feel on these or other decent starter sets.
That's a great tool kit, would love that.
I'd LOVE this setup!
Dang it! I sat down to relax after taking a shower, and decided to watch this video. Now, I've got to go change my pants again! Thanks Humble Mechanic.
+Luke Edward hahaha.
1:50 don't you just hate when your socket drawer doesn't open up all the way :-/
I find it odd that as VW enthusiasts Charles (and Paul from ShopDAP) don't prefer German tools. I think working on VWs and Audis with Hazet, Stahlwille, Elora, Wiha, NWS etc tools would be kind of neat. Likewise working on Japanese cars with Koken, KTC or Vessel tools. Working on Ferraris, Alfa Romeos or FIATs with Beta or USAG, working on Renaults/Peugeots with Facom, working on Jaaags with King Dick tools (hardy haha) and so on...
That is interesting. I really like Wiha and Hazet(I haven't used the others a lot).
Can I get a set like this build for a HONDA tech ??? Anyone know cuz I don’t see anything of the sort on the website
I don't have the space for such a tool box, but I WANT ONE!
The Original Fidget Spinner, was indeed the front wheel of a Tamiya Frog! Assuming you had the ball bearings. Fun really only lasted 5 mins or so. Not sure how this craze lasted as long as it has. Thaty's right, O.G. Fidget! BTW, does the box have a swear jar!?
LOL, I think you have to DIY that swear jar
bad ass tool box
Simply wow 😳 I'll have to see if this sonic set is available in the U.K.
It's so beautiful.....
Cool Box. Thanks for the video.
ive never been a huge fan of the sonic tools. but wow. a service cart without a stupid flip top!??! awesome! you mean i can actually put shit on the top and still get at the tools????
my word! that is lovely. Dibs!
#allthedibs LOL
I wish to be a vw audi tech but I have no clue as to even begin. I'm currently working a job that doesn't fit my personality. I wished I took auto when I was in tech school 😕.
Bearded Ninja87 Same here.
Bearded Ninja87 pretty late here. But I felt similarly. Looked up automechamic schools online. They are self paced and have quality materiel. Sure you don’t get the hands on right away. But I started with applying my lessons to my beater car. Ended up fixing her up really good. Got a little part time and weekend job as a tech at a local dealership. I’m not a mechanic and I like my job as a ct tech, but I’m saying the options are there. Those online schools are a great avenue and aren’t too expensive. I payed 50 dollars a month for 11 months.
Proving one of my favorite Axioms "There's a 'Right' tool for every job and it's never an adjustable wrench"
Rich Rodriguez I grew up on a farm my grandfather and father would argue quite vehemently against that axiom
Ugh, wish I was a subscriber sooner! I work on BMW, Audi, and Porsche cars. I can never have enough tools. LOL! I will keep an eye out on the next tool give away!
this is my dream tools!!
Well put together tool set,
Really ausome tools i like this tool set
awesome video Charles
Beautiful
Why would you put the screwdrivers in the top drawer and not 3/8 sockets
It’s how they came. Lol luckily swapping drawers is super easy.
Ultimately everyone has their preferences with organization. I don’t find the top being any more convenient than the second one down
I thought the same thing. Ive never seen a tech use screwdrivers more than a ratchet and sockets.
That is a very sweet deal I'm not an auto mechanic but it's pretty cool my Kobalt tool box came with padding like that question I got what about shipping is it free shipping if you buy one or you pay regular shipping
Holy crap that's expensive. I want one.
muy buenas herramientas
Your opinion on the overall quality of the Sonic Tools?
Looking at making an investment in a lot of tools and want to know the good and bad
Great content and presentation.
Good looking box, price is great also. I don't work on VW so I won't be buying one but it is a great concept for new Techs.
+GreaseMonkey X they do have a few other setups. Or you can make your own.
They look like great products but I am old , established and work on heavy equipment. My rollaround is four times the size of that VW box. I posted a video of it. If I ran an auto repair shop I would show young guys your video though.
My buddy just got a HUGE snap-on tool chest, retails at $11k, he got it for $5k, lol you can buy a freakin car for that!!
That's some fkn eye candy right there
I like how German cars use torx, they don't slip as much
Dude I'd love to own this!
Love it! very informative.
And all I have is a 109 piece mechanics toolbox from the auto parts store I need to upgrade
This being your most recent vidjayhoe, I have an amateur question. What is a butterfly wrench and what fastener do butterfly wrenches use?
Thanks boss!! Does Sonic sponsor you or your channel?
That vr6 is looking good. I was wondering if you are going to use a remote filter so you can replace the filter without a huge mess and keeping your engine clean. Also are you keeping a/c on it as well
+Brian Skinner keeping both of those things stock.
AC is a MUST. lol
love it!
Thank you!
What’s the new link to this? The current one isn’t working
is there any tool carts set up for Volvo technicians
No Pozidrive screw drivers?
The original fidget spinner. Good times.
Charles, do you know if you can still get this set? I have recently been thinking about becoming a vw tech and have a job offer on the table. I went to the link that is posted and was given an error message. Thanks for any help you may be giving me and any time.
Does sonic sell those boxes in the States ? Looks like nice quality stuff. Can't find any prices either
+Jrod Alvord yep. They have a location in Alabama I think
Hey Charles, how do you decide which tool to use when you have several options on the same size?(like torx screwdriver vs torx L style). Also, when do you use 6 point sockets versus 12 point sockets?(and when to use 3/8" vs 1/2" for the same socket size?, torque?)
Guillermo Lovato it depends on the location of the bolt being removed or how tight the bolt is stuck on there. It will be common sense which tool to use as u progress in being a technician. For example, most European lugs for the wheels are 17mm. You can use a 3/8 or a 1/2 drive but its going to be alot easier to sitck a 1/2in 17mm on an impact to remove the wheel, versus putting a 3/8 17mm using an adapter taking a chance to breaking the adapter due to more torque.
Guillermo Lovato always more then one way to skin a cat... the benefit of having such a diverse set is having the ability to choose the right tool for the job but just because you aren't doing it "the right way" doesn't mean it can't be done. I use what works. if you have a 6 point head and the 12point slips then you need to use a six point head.. if the 3/8 inch extension seems flimsy for the amount of force used then its probably not the right tool. judging what will work and what went comes from the experience.
I'll take 2 please
Not a bad way to spend 5k...just gotta sneak it by the missus!
How have these been holding up? and how are you liking them, I'm considering getting a toolbox
I have broken 1 tool so far. LOL Everything is holding up well
HumbleMechanic if you don't mind me asking what tool was it? and did it brake under normal usage? and did you have any issues getting a replacement?
Does that box come with does tools already? Or u buy al does w/ da inserts
This comes exactly how I show it here. Tools, inserts and everything.
That is sick! >.
no 12 point 30mm for axle nuts...
was the one pair of pliers knipex?
+Jordan Neufeld they are very similar
I dont see the check eng light tool? you know the roll of black electrical tape tp cover it up? LOL
i have a question. i been looking at this tool box for a while now and i was just wondering if you think this is a perfect tool box to start off with. im currently going to school to become a tech and i already have a job lined up with audi. should i invest my money into this box or go get my stuff from matco or other companies?
This is a great box. How many tools do you have?
HumbleMechanic so far I️ just have my drill set from Matco and a 3/8 set of sockets that I had bought from craftsman to just work on my car here and there
can i purchase the sonic tools in canada ? or do i have to pay high amount for shipping and duty?
That I’m not 100% sure. I do know they are growing in Canada
its so beautiful i woulda loved this starting off at my job how much is it though?
$5500usd+shipping
Where’s the fun in buying tools at your own need and want?
Pliers look like they are made by NWS.
Them foam mats seem like a waste of space what happens when stop changing oil and rotating tires over there and actually start doing something where are they going to put the tools they buy on top of the mats then you got dig them out take them foam mats out and I could fit everything in that box in 3 drawer and it still would be neater
This is a nice set. Look up the price 7k 😭😭😭😭
do you know if they have a Mercedes-Benz toolbox?
I don't think they do. But I am sure they can work with you to build one
They do a Mercedes specific box here in Europe. Pretty sure it'd be available in the US :)
No water pump tool?
Fuel pump**
So how much did this set you back?
+IIGrayfoxII full retail is $5500. Sonic sent it to me to check out.
Are they picking it up or do you have to send it back?
If you have to send it back just say you sent it via UPS or or some crap and they lost it or they threw it over someones fence.
I wish they had a Subaru box
If you reach out to them, I am sure that you guys can put one together.
In fact, if you want I would be happy to connect you with those guys
A Subaru box would only have 10,12,14,17,19 mm sockets, an axle nut socket, feeler gauge, screwdrivers, pliers, a really long punch to get the front CV axle roll-pins out. And it would fit in a hand held case.
Are these available in the uk
Think they are.
Cheers hope you are having a good Xmas and new year
Tool car there to buy
Do VW come with life time tires who the heck puts tires on them if there techs don't mount them
Jairo Canales Technicians do mount and balance tires.
+Jairo Canales lol the techs do. It's just not something I'm use to a tech having their own. It's more of a shop equipment thing to me.
Way too organized I can't work with that, I like to spend a minute before finding the socket I want, the fact that you can't open more than one drawer sucks
They look cheap to me and the box does not open enough it would drive me crazy
+Brad Kells the tool quality is good. The finish on the wrenches is not polished and I think that's why they look cheap.
The drawers not opening enough is now awesome. I'm trying to find a workaround for it. It impacts 2 drawers.
With out using this box for a while I can't say it's a big issue yet.
I've been using the tools In the S10 box for over a year and a half, and haven't broken one yet
*not awesome
I see there are NWS (i.e., German) pliers in the kit, I'm unsure on the other stuff. 🙂
