Hi is there a way of adding buildings that you know the height of to cad mapper if they are not visible when imported.
If we are working in engineering scale will the alignment option work the same way?

cant you just scale by 12 and then 3.28084 instead of scale ref? some people may prefer to use the centerlines to get proper ROW widths.

hey, I tried to copy base and paste in a new drawing, but it said "invalid origin point" when I put the 0,0,0 coordinates in. Your videos are really helpful, cheers!

I'm still trying to ascertain how I can be sure the global positioning in terms of easting and northing is correct. I recently completed the process of transferring my CADMapper plan into a topographical surface for use with a previously - globally positioned - Revit model. However once imported the surface required dragging and dropping into place, relative to my ordnance survey plan. I have checked this video and one produced by Balkan Architect, but neither of these videos focuses on true positioning of the surface derived, relative to the proposed building's coordinates. I'd really be keen to get my head around that as its key to figuring out whether ramps or steps etc. are required.

I watch your 'cadmapper to revit' videos at the beginning of every new semester when doing my site analysis. You are very thorough in the explaining the process and its much appreciated! Quick question! When in Cadmapper, why do you do road outlines and not road meshes? Follow up question lol what is a mesh road? I've always had trouble editing roads once everything is transferred into revit so do you have any tips? Will downloading road meshes solve that?
That's awesome to hear! I appreciate the kind words and I'm so glad that these videos are still providing value for you. For your questions, I choose road outlines for two reasons: 1, because they're easier to edit than meshes and provide the same level of information in most of my use cases (diagramming), and 2, if I ever needed to fabricate a site model using the CADMapper file as the base, I usually default to using a laser cutter or craft cutter which requires clean vector linework to perform best. You can always convert the road outlines to 3D geometry or surfaces if needed. But if ever in doubt, just download both mesh and outline roads as two separate files. Hope this helps!

Very informative video, thanks a lot for explaining things. An issue I'm having is that my cadmapper topography file doesn't have the topography I need, it is just wrong. It should show a railway that sits on top of a crest, but it is simply not mapped by the program. I guess i will need to edit that topography myself. :(
Hey there! Thanks for watching! CADMapper uses Open Street Map (OSM) data, so if it doesn’t exist on OSM, then it will reflect incorrectly on the CADMapper export file. CADMApper is a great tool to help you get you started with a base file. But oftentimes, you may need to add your own geometry or make changes as necessary to reflect your actual site. CADMapper is really a tool for helping with the schematic design phase of design. The only real and true way to get completely accurate site data is to have a surveyor physically go to the site and take measurements. Hope this helps, and good luck my friend!

What if its outside the Cadmapper square/zone? No luck?
Erik Leypoldt You can make the selection square larger, but you will have to pay for it after 1sqkm. OR you can export multiple 1sqkm CADMapper files and stitch them together manually in AutoCAD, and you won’t have to pay. However, this method can be VERY time consuming depending on what you plan to use your file for (digital drawings vs. making physical laser cut model, for example).
I usually scale using scale command I feel like they both work the same way. (Draw a line in the street from where the street starts and how big you wanted to be in this case 19.685 i would recommend you make it in another color to distinguish it from the rest. Highlight everything except the 19.685 line. type sc for scale enter click on your first point where both lines from the street start. type R for reference click on the same point again than click to where the line 19.685 ends and that should scale it up the same way. just make sure to delete the line after you finish.

Thanks for making these tutorials on the topic, very easy to follow and helpful! I did run into an issue though when trying to link the xref CAD file into revit though, I kept running into a visibility issue after inserting and haven't found a solution to it other than using the original file. I was wondering if you have encountered similar or know of a solution? Cheers :)

When I look at the site master model on CAD all of the xref files are accurate and line up correctly but when I try to bring in the linked files to the toposurface on Revit they insert pretty inconsistently where they break into the toposurface at certain parts or are entirely underneath.
Thanks for the clarification! It sounds like the issue may be in the “Import” menu of Revit. When you go to link the .dwg files, be sure that your settings read like this: “Layers/Levels” = Visible. “Import Units” = auto detect (make sure you converted from metric to imperial). “Positioning” = origin to origin (this keeps all the 0,0,0 coordinates lined up). “Place at” = level 1 (for everything). Let me know if that helps!

OK, followed your instructions to the T. Everything worked out until i brought it into revit. Somehow the topography was much smaller then my model. Any suggestions

Jonathan Bonaparte Check the Revit import scale units. It is very likely something to do with scale. Is your Revit model in imperial? Or metric?
