    I tried reversed P-pickup a couple of days ago (and moved it closer to the neck, like on Mark's basses) - it sounds great. I heard a less mids (without loosing highs) and overall tone was more balanced, especially between the 2nd and 3rd strings.

      Peter Hook always uses basses with reversed Ps too since his old Yamaha had one. I recently bought a Cort with that configuration too!

      @@ModestEgg and others (if anyone wants to know how to mod the P bass). Peter Hook bass - Simply reverse pickup without moving the centerline. Mark Hoppus P-bass (non-reversed pickup) - pickup is moved to the neck by 17mm. Mark Hoppus Jaguar bass - (reversed pickup) - pickup is moved to the neck by 43mm. These are my own calculations of position, feel free to experiment.

    So basically he did the Billy Corgan “Siamese Dream” technique on Bass.

    Hey dude, can you do a video on Joe Principe from Rise Against? I think he has such a huge bass tone, especially on the first three albums, would love to know how to get that sound

    • @SugarpillProd
      @SugarpillProd  10 месяцев назад +6

      Could be a fun idea! Just as a tip, I believe CLA put a preset in on his bass plugin called "Pizza Box" that was specifically made for Joe. It get's you that "growly" Rise Against sound pretty quickly.

      Joe was also in 88 Fingers Louie before RA. 🖤☠️🖤 he’s always had that killer driving bass sound.

    Very interesting concept. I don't think I'd be utilizing this method entirely but I learned a little bit today.

    How does he do it live though?

    • @SugarpillProd
      @SugarpillProd  9 месяцев назад

      He just doesn't lol. Not every studio trick has to translate to the live show. Or in some cases they'll use backing tracks to fill out the sound (like the keys and acoustic guitar on I Miss You).

    SugarPill, have you heard of a band called Ned's Atomic Dustbin? They're a really amazing band from the 90's out of the UK, 2 bassists in the band. Alex Green plays those 5th chords, creates melodies and plays on the higher end of the bass while Matt Cheslin plays the lower parts. A good example is the song Grey Cell Green. Would love to see you do a video on them. Check them out first if you haven't heard of them. Cheers

    So, not so not really a "bass trick". It's just recording multiple tracks in order to produce a sound that he's not able to actually replicate in a live setting.

    • @SugarpillProd
      @SugarpillProd  4 месяца назад +1

      Well, it is. It's a studio bass trick if you want to be pedantic, but I don't see what playing live has to do with this.
