Hello future neighbour🌷, your cooking chanel is best for me, i am from srilanka and i cooked many of your dishes for my chinease friend's, they love it, i cooked most of your breakfast dishes, may god bless your familly and you, 🙏
I think every culture have a tomato and eggs dish like China have a stir fry north Africa have eggs poached in tomato ( i also think maybe Iran and Turkey have a tomato and egg dish ) here in the middle east every family have a way of cooking tomato and eggs
I think you're talking about shakshuka! That said, every region has their own name. It's even in Italy and Greece. There's just something about the egg and tomato combo!
Gabrielle Martin nope şakşuka doesn’t have egg in it. At least in Turkish kitchen. It’s made with eggplant, pepper and tomatoes. This dish reminds Menemen even though the recipe is very different.
Here is the Hungarian version: finely chop an onion and start frying it in a tbsp oil, then add chopped bell peppers and lastly the tomatoes (because tomatoes need less time to cook). When the tomatoes release the juices, just pour in the egg mixture and once it's cooked you're done. We're usually eat some bread with it, but some people add sausages, leave out the egg and have it with rice. It's a very popular dish called lecsó. So interesting to read the comments about different versions of this dish from around the world :)
ever since I came back from China I've been missing this and it never crossed my mind that I could just...make it myself hahahah thank you for the recipe!
Chinese American checking in here, I love how this dish is so universal (Every country/region has their own take on it but all equally yummy). Much love to you guys and hope y'all are staying safe and healthy 💜
I LOVE tomato egg and cook it pretty regularly. One thing you might want to try is adding a dash of oyster sauce-it does some kind of magic that makes the whole dish unnnnbelievable!
Grew up eating the Nigerian version of this since I was little but we make ours a bit differently (always with habaneros or Scotch Bonnets) . This brings memories you guys! We typically eat this with taro/yam and ripe plantains! Cheers you guys.
@D Tomato and egg is super popular combo around the world (and for good reason) Shakshuka and eggs in purgatory are a level up in terms of time commitment and added ingredients as well as steps but they're essentially the same iconic combination of cooked tomatoes and eggs for breakfast! It's kind of dumplings around the world. They're all the same exact concept of filling wrapped in dough yet there are so many different versions with their own twists and identities
My mom used to make scrambled eggs with tomatoes! But she stopped because I didn’t like it when I was little (Sorry mom). I think I‘ll be going to make this version for breakfast tomorrow to surprise her and to see if she notices the difference 😁. We live in Germany so it would be called „Tomatenrührei“.

Thanks for the recipe/ recipes. I will try some more your recipes and your stories. The stories help me learn about Korean Culture. You're a good teacher/teachers.
Wow so delicious! this recipe so similar with our’s. We call it menemen ( you can pronounce like men-a-men) There is disagreement about its content for many years. some of us cook with onions, some of us cook without onions.i love both versions. Let me talk about the differences. cut the tomatoes smaller, we do not put sugar and starch in it. We also pour the scrambled eggs over the tomatoes when cooked, and quickly mix them before the eggs solidify and take away from the fire. so it becomes slightly juicy, tasty. We usually eat with fresh bread/ toasted bread and black tea. Do you guys like black tea? Please try it once, I think you will not regret 😋
This is one of my all time favourite recipes these days. I can’t believe as much as I grew up eating fresh tomatoes, and tomato gravy with my eggs that this didn’t ever occur to me as a combo. Now, I definitely think how I choose to season this dish/add ins depend on the season because the tomato can vary anywhere from wintertime only access to hard and red in Color but not truly ripened by the ☀️ to during summertime when I can get plenty of sun ripened home grown juicy sweet tomatoes! So wintertime I find myself needing to add sugar and some garlic and onions to flavour versus summertime I can almost just use eggs and tomato’s but it’s also nice to splash in vinegar to balance too sweet with a bit of acid and my biggest most favourite discovery tip is: Fish broth! Be it korean anchovy liquid OR 5 crab fish sauce OR some powdered dashi. Adding this in to a bit of water just elevates this dish to another level.(use instead of salt) Nommy 😋
I've been eating this since I was little... My dad used to make us for breakfast. I'm from Chile... I guess "huevos con tomate" is more common than you may think. And it's delicious 👌🏻
@@yulunwang919 I was wondering about that actually. Because I've lived in China for years (Zhejiang province) and while this is a common dish I don't think I've seen anyone eat it for breakfast.
I'm Southern African American in the state of North Carolina I just did this tomato egg , your recipe. OMG, it's so delicious!!! I have no rice BUT I did used grit. Still banging good!! Keep cooking because your recipe simple. Your shows teach me the Korean culture . Great work!
I ate this when I was in China!!! I am NOT a fan of tomatoes, but I remember this was super freaking delicious, even despite me not liking tomatoes lol. Thanks for sharing this recipe!!!
I used to do this and season it with curry powder, then eat it with rice or roti. It was close to something I had in India! So good!😋 The Turks are doing something similar called „Menemen“. Also very nice!
It seems many families have their own techniques in making this iconic dish. Give it a try with our recipe and afterwards, for the second batch, you can fine-tune if you'd need. Some potential adjustments... if you want it more savory: (1) Reduce to 1 teaspoon of sugar. If you want more of a natural tomato flavor ... reduce to only 1 or 2 Tablespoons of Ketchup. But I do recommend using 2 tomatoes to 5 eggs! It's a *good ratio* Click here for the written recipe: futuredish.com/tomato-egg-stirfry-iconic-chinese-breakfast-item/
Aah~ we have a variation of this in our family. Im Indian, we put tomatoes, chillies, a bit turmeric and salt in mustard oil, let it soften up and add the beaten eggs. It tastes amazing! Please try it if you get the chance !! Highly recommended
My family always did it very simple, stir fry the tomatoes, when the skin starts peeling and the tomatoes soften, pour in the eggs right on top. Stir real quick and don’t let the eggs overcook. We don’t use ketchup, just some salt, sugar, and white pepper. The peanut oil really helps for flavor.
Oh this looks amazing! I always love to see Chinese/Korean/Japanese breakfasts since they're so different than the American ones I grew up with :) I'll be making this soon!
I've tried a few different recipes for this dish and this is by far the best one! If you have never tried this dish before I promise you it is worth making it is so delicious
I made something similar to this after I watched this video. Made the tomato’s, added leftover rice once the tomatoes were soft and added egg last. I just sort of chucked everything in the pan (lazy version). I ended making a fried rice but still really good. My family normally eats the typical western breakfast, so I made this for myself as an experiment. My mom tried some and really liked it.
Thanks so much for making a halal version, without using wine or lard as part of the steps. It's a very small gesture, but is highly appreciated. Just a note, you could also replace the chicken stock with any version of your favorite MSG additive. But this is still mega nice.
I have tried to make this before but somehow it never turned out exactly how I wanted it to. This is the first time it turned out exactly as good as I remember from China!
I love fresh tomatoes in my eggs. A friend showed me how delicious it was many moons ago and I never looked back. Now this version is different but I am willing to try it. 👍❤️
Bro I appreciate your videos!! This dish is many Chinese people’s childhood memory and u did it pretty authentic and well, different families has different ways to make this tho, 🇨🇳 🤝 🇰🇷
I've cooked something similar while trying to make an omelette 😅 You've inspired me to add some extra ingredients and flavors the next time I do this! 👍
Pro tip: add a little fish sauce and/or soy sauce. Thai people do that and sometimes add chilies to the tomato mixture or add nam pla (sauce made by mixing 50% fish sauce with 50% like juice and garlic, cilantro, and thai chilies to taste) on top of the cooked eggs
My Family's background is former Prussian empire. I have made something like this, since I was small. It's a summer dish for me, because I use fresh tomatoes from our garden. I like using cherry tomatoes because cooking them releases their sweetness- no sugar required. I also add some crushed garlic. I put fresh ( homegrown) chives on top. Then I put it on top of toast- although I do sometimes eat it with fried rice.
This is my new favourite dish to make after a long session the gym and even on recovery days, I can’t wait to see what else I learn from this channel! I’m always looking forward to eating breakfast.
One thing you got wrong, you don't need the ketchup! usually the tomatoes would already be sweet so there is no need for the ketchup even for the acidity.
