This is my favorite version of this song. Hands down.
mine too
Metal Church did a version too but Spiderbait’s is so killer
That's instrument that looks like a Banjo is actually a Banjo-Mandolin. It has 8 strings (4 x double string courses) and sounds like a higher pitched guitar. That's why it cuts through the other instruments.
How good is Kram on the drums... Awesome. Love Spiderbait.
Black Betty was compose originally in the 1930s by a singer and legendary blues guitarist Robert Johnson. A good song lasts forever.
I respect the drummer so much for singing and drumming so amazing!! Best reaction ever btw!!!
I rarely see bands where the lead singer is the drummer 🥁.
black betty was first written and recorded in 1933 by a texas prisoner, ram jam updated the song in the 70's and spiderbait covered it for nfs underground 2, the movie is 'without a paddle'
Not just some criminal but none other than Leadbelly..popular music didn't exist without that man
Dude I can never stop laughing at you reacting to badass songs! Makes my day every time. Keep on rockin🤘
A classic from Need for speed underground 2, nice reaction!
NFSU2 had the best soundtrack tbh
Yup, that's the first time I ever heard it & tbh it's the first song I remember when I think about the game 😂
NFSU2 Forever!! This cover is awesome ^^ and the car in the video is a true love :)__
OH YEAAH...OH RIGHT!!!...😏😏😏😏😏😏😎😎😎😎😎😎😈😈😈😈😈😈😈😈
Listening to this while driving on a highway at 300km/h in NFSU2... ahh such a 2000s classic. Gonna reinstall and replay it on my computer now 👌👌.
Oh and I almost forgot, nice version of a classic rock theme! They killed it!
I knew it! I knew I heard this before but couldn't really put my finger on it, but now you mention it.... NFSU2!!
@@rsprenger79 Yeee was one of my favourite tracks in that game 👉
Haha that was really good! Can't stop smiling 😀 That's Seth Green in "Without a Paddle" 😊
Anna Granath great movie!!
Also Matt Lillard.
and dax sheppard
Yes! Without a paddle was classic! Love this version!
Have a crack at one of their originals - all 1:41 of Buy me a Pony would be the best place to start (although calypso and Shazam are not too bad either!)
Yes buy me a pony, cows and fuckin awesome are by far some of there best songs
🤘🇭🇲🇭🇲🤘 as a very proud Australian.... You really should investigate more Australian rock. You know AC/DC... we have so much talent down here.
Rose Tattoo
The Angels
The Screaming Jets
I could go on and on and on
Paul Dowlan funny you should mention Rose Tattoo! Dude I think Aussie rock is my favorite rock. THE THUNDUH COMES FROM DOWN UNDUH
@@MrRockNRollLive There was was a nice documentary called "blood and thunder the sound of alberts", which was where AC/DC and the Easybeats recorded in [both] their early days
Teramaze, meshiaak, The butterfly effect, Thy art is murder....
I was going to rattle off a bunch more but I'll just leave it at Powderfinger
@@MrRockNRollLive that guy is Kram. Very beloved in Australia.
More Oz rock needed!!
Daniel Brown I would have to agree!
@@MrRockNRollLive check Patreon. I linked some of my fav Aussie bands.
🇦🇺🤘🇦🇺
Bloody oath. Frenzal Rhomb - Forever Malcolm Young
Spiderbait did the soundtrack for the first ghost rider movie.
This version also appears on the in game soundtrack for the videogame "need for speed underground 2"
Love this more than the original.
You always bring the energy bro! But at the same time its like you are overwhelmed by that energy. You would definitely be a fun guy to hang out with at a concert!
🤘🤘 DAYUM!!!! Now that was noice!!!! 😁🤘🤘
My favorite version now!!! Awesome 🤘🤘
Need for speed Underground 2 introduced me to this classic!! 🤘🏼
Same. I miss that game
The movie is 'Without A Paddle'. Very funny. Black Betty only comes on during the end titles, but me and my kids hurt ourselves dancing to it. It is now our official wedding reception song...usually just us four.
I saw Spiderbait play a ten minute version Black Betty on new years eve 2004 at The Falls Festival. The Black Keys followed, but all the oxygen was gone...
Seeing them tomorrow. Fingers crossed we get this same energy !!
Lucky you...@@nicklivermore7654
Brother, Funny you mention AC/DC, because Spiderbait is Australian too! Lead singer Kram on drums is a great performer. Cheers Mate
Killing Heidi 🤘🇭🇲🤘
Used to see these guys play all-ages shows in Melbourne back in the '90s. Other Oz rock bands in that scene: The Meanies, Hard-Ons, Magic Dirt, Cosmic Psychos, Tumbleweed. Some favourite songs: She-Riff by Magic Dirt, Lost Cause by Cosmic Psychos (L7 sampled their song for Fuel My Fire) and Sundial by Tumbleweed. Takes me back to being a teen! 😅
Man i love love love oz rock!
Matthew Lillard and Seth Green in the movie 'Without a Paddle'. And yes, it is an awesome movie, one of my favorite comedies.
Dax Shepperd also
@@joshaker2753 Yes.
That banjo with metal guitars is awesome.
If there’s one thing Aussie rock bands do brilliantly (aside from being great live), is covers and this is no exception.
Grinspoon, Powderfinger more Aussie bands man!! Lovin’ your work!
It's unanimous! You have to react to "Buy me a Pony" or "Shazam". You won't be disappointed!
or plastic
The starting of your reaction had me in tears. The grunting took me.
LOL, I almost forgot how *HARD* this song slaps. 🤘😎🤘
No worries bout the drum kit, thats his racing set
His reaction was priceless!!
Love Spiderbait....locals around here where i live.
Now you need to check out another Aussie band Rose Tattoo.🇦🇺
Dang, that was way better than I expected
Luved your reaction dude !! I had the same reaction first time I heard this song ....
Great to see an Aussie band Reaction, Should look into them more.. The Drummer is the singer! I have seen them live about 30 times.. A great band live..
I rarely see bands where the lead singer is the drummer 🥁.
The little Aussie band done good huh? You really should do some Rose Tattoo if you haven't already. Maybe some of The Party Boys too - they had some great songs over the years, including two of my favourites - stonking good covers of He's Gonna Step on You Again (the "71 John Kongos original) and Hold Your Head Up (Argent '72 original).
The Poor ,More wine waiter please.
Stumbled across you channel when I watched your reaction to Detox by Strapping Young Lad, and now a reaction to some of our awesome Aussie rock. I've found a cure to the quarantine blues!
When you said you liked the original i knew this video would be good. That made me so happy watching you enjoy this :)
awesome friggin version!!
The energy you showed was immaculate
3:28 me when she say she's home alone.
We do things right in OZ
Absolutely, especially when it comes to our pub rock, maybe I’m biased as I was raised on good old fashioned Aussie pub rock, but our rock musicians are some of the best in the world.
They also cover Ghost Riders in the Sky. You should check it out too.
this song is one my favorite car trip songs
Matthew Lillard, Seth Green, Dax Sheppard -- "Without a Paddle". Hilarious movie! That's actually Burt Reynolds as the Grizzly Adams looking dude.
I consider this song part of my Top 10 Bar Fight Songs.
this is the best reaction ive seen it twice haha
What the fuck i love this Australian band!
What you have not heard of spider bait the drummer is a legend
I love how you went bat shit crazy listening to this song
It's from "without a paddle". What a damn good film!
The studio version of Alien Nation by the Scorpions. It has a bass line that can split asphalt.
Tremendous!
i forgot the music video was also a tie in for without a paddle. good movie btw
Blowing your mind but telling you that Kram, the drummer, is also the lead vocalist
I've always loved this cover ever since I first heard it many years ago. It's every bit as good as Ram Jam's cover of the song IMO, but in a different way, and as much as I enjoy the original(?) version by Lead Belly (you should check that one out too from 1939) I do prefer the 'rockier' versions these two bands did of it, even if they did both only did the second half of the song.
That movie is Without a Paddle, but this song (Spiderbait's version) has popped up in a lot of movies since, it was just used in the Birds of Prey movie.
You should check out their other songs. Try "Buy Me a Pony" and the other song that gets used in movies "Calypso".
Spiderbait sadly haven't been around much lately but their songs still live on in movies now and then.
spiderbait are from a rural town in new south wales australia..... like you said: if it's from australia, it's probably gold, only australia could make this kind of particular creative art sound original to aussie musicians, even in doing covers.... should do reaction on cold chisel - wild thing (last stand 1983 concert ) live performance version, and a folk rock lady kasey chambers who did a rock version of emminem lose yourself (both are top viewing in youtube reactions).... dude your are too awesome by the way, you out react any of the reactions, you get people have a genuine great time and feeling happy laughs...
Kram you are a legend
You'd of heard Spiderbait before if you saw old Nick Cage in Ghostrider. The outro Ghostriders was played by them. Also, it's a shame the original video clip has been nuked from YT. Bascially all of Cram racing the 37 on his drum kit.
You're as we say True Blue, subscribed. Do the Oils Stand in Line.
⚡️Aussie Rock is KING⚡️
The movie is Without a Paddle
...and the live version from the Homebake Festival is even more feral. Man, it'll blow your wig ALL the way to the back of the room.
"buy me a pony", is a good one. even "calypso" is pretty good 👍
Nice cover. I prefer the Ram Jam one though
This version of Black Betty has balls.
Great reaction to a rock classic ! Diggin’ it dude ! The movie scenes are from ‘Without a Paddle a good comedy which I’ve seen a few times. 👍🏼🤠🎸
Go the 'Bait!!! Freakin' awesome band. Cram is a god among drummers. Hope to hear more of your reactions towards this band. As Pub/Oz rock bands go Spiderbait is one of the most musically diverse, featuring male and female lead vocals from drummer Cram and bass player Janet English as well as playing styles ranging from punk, grunge, and hard rock. One thing that is consistent though, is that hard and super fast beat that leaps out of the speaker and smacks you in the face with a cricket bat! As a special request I would love to hear your reaction to 'Fucken Awesome!'
I've noticed a fellow Aussie of mine has already given you some great bands for you to check out, but here's a few more suggestions...
-Powderfinger (Very cool laid back band and featured probably their worst song off there best album on the second Tom Cruise Mission Impossible movie. Still one of my favourite bands...oh yeah and...QUEENSLAAAANDAAAHHHH!!!!!)
-Midnight Oil (Lead singer Peter Garret at one stage had MP at the end of his name as for a brief moment he was Environmental and Education minister when Kevin Rudd was Prime Minister
-The Superjesus ( In my late teens and early twenties I had the biggest crush on Sarah McLeod. Her and Shirley Manson from Garbage)
-Wolfmother (Trippy old school metal, drawing inspiration from Jimmi Hendrix, Led Zepplin and Rainbow...and once again... QUEENSLAAAAAAANDAAAAAAHHH!!!!!)
-The Cat Empire (Not a rock band more of a Gypsy Jazz band. Very very awesome music though! I think you will enjoy them)
-Regurgitator (Not a rock band more of.... er....well... I'll let you decide...lot's of electronica, very crass in your face lyrics and more importantly... QUEEENSLAAAANDAAAAAAHHH!!!)
-INXS ( One of the most influential bands to grace the Oz Rock scene. We lost Michael Hutchence far too soon RIP)
-Hunters and Collectors (Another influential band from the 70/80s golden era of Aussie music. I especially recommend 'Throw your Arms Around Me')
-Crowded House (Not to be confused with it's earlier incarnation Split Enz from New Zealand)
That should keep you busy.
Yes to Powderfinger, yes to The Superjesus (note the Adelaide connection). Honestly there's so many I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Silverchair yet though.
@@raxa4593 Damn it! I knew I was missing out on someone. Good catch!
Yes! So much yes!
bull zeichen 86 prologue 👊👊
Should check out Spiderbait - Buy Me a Pony. Showcases their other singer out in front.
And check out 2 other Australian bands. Wolfmother and Jet.
That "electric banjo" appears to be strung like a mandolin, not a banjo. But the body construction is clearly a banjo.
best reaction ever 👌
Spiderbait is an Australian band.
If on the Aussie theme check this little known aussie metal band.
"Elm street" and the song "blood diamond"
You won't be disappointed
AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE! Oi! Oi! Oi! My favourite cover.
Spiderbait rock.
If you want to check out more Spiderbait, start with the album "Grand Slam"
another great aussie band!
Movie is really good and hilarious. Called Without A Paddle
Love spiderbait. Have for 20years. Its just us Aussies showing the love.. (Buy me a pony)
wow i think he likes it!
more Aussies! try Spiderbait - Four on the Floor
This song takes me back to Need for Speed Underground 2
Your do called electric banjo is I believe an 8 string mandolin.
I’d love to see your reaction to Hulkoff
The drummer/singer is called Kram, and he is a rock god, and a very funny dude as well. And his voice is perfectly normal, tehy're just using heavy distortion in this track.
Please do The Darkness - I believe in a thing called love
they also did "Ghost Riders in the Sky" for Ghost Rider.....not a banjo; an 8 string electric mandolin played slide
Movie is Without a Paddle
Nice reaction.
Still throwing out a Black Veil Brides reaction. Either Saints of the Blood or The Vengence.
Fucking spiderbait! Wow.... Australia represent!
Think you need to start going through the best of Aussie rock... you'll need new hinges on your door after not too long 🤘
Aussie rock. If you grew up in Australia. Our history our rock is how we roll. Just saying.
You should check out Row Row or Blood in the River by Zeal and Ardor. They're a band that mixed Black Spirituals/Chaingang music and Black Metal, and they DEFINITELY hit different.
Coooool! Like this one of Black Betty!
But, hey... still no stuff of Band-Maid on the wall. What is taking so long?
Originally from the movie Without a Paddle!
