The Last Jedi kind of had a similar dynamic between Holdo and Poe Dameron where the two are arguing about the best strategy against the First Order, Poe rebels but then Holdo gets the last laugh since she's the "wise elder statesman" figure. If it were an older Star Wars film or something like Top Gun, the movie would've sided with Poe Dameron for sure, being the cool "rebel" or "maverick" who breaks rules that really ought to be broken, but since Rian Johnson wanted to "subvert expectations" it was the stuffy, out-of-touch higher-up that we're supposed to root for I guess. I didn't really like this part of the movie but it seems somewhat similar to what you're talking about.

But A nuanced villian is great as well. The problem is a lot of these companies just overdo it. If something made money they all jump on the bandwagon. Everybody copied Pixar after their success with 3D, now its seems to be the Spiderverse treatment. People are now getting tired of the Pixar/ Disney look and praising movies like Spiderverse. Mitchels vs the machines was the same people but the Bad Guys and Puss and Boots are just following the money. there are so many beautiful art styles out there that aren't given the time of day, all they need is a compelling story to compliment the look.

@@rayanna7188 I wouldn’t say the concept is generic. I think it can be seen that way because it’s doing two of Disney’s popular tropes: Generational Trauma & Two Different Worlds. Turning Red, Encanto, & Coco all deal with generation trauma but I wouldn’t say any of those 3 are generic stories, all unique in their own ways and have different methods for addressing that topic. All 3 movies touched on generational trauma but all have different plots. As long as it’s not the generic generational trauma like Strange World is: “No Dad this is what you want”, it should fine. As for Two Different Worlds, Disney did that trope in almost every film from 1989 til now. The renaissance films had the same generic formula but the movies themselves weren’t generic because of the execution, so we will just have to wait and see. Trailer does look generic but Pixar’s only good trailers are Soul & Incredibles 2.

I think people are a little tired of "family bad" movies. Not necessarily that it's "bad" to follow in your family's footsteps, but it's clear that none of these characters actually want to do these things and it's seen as "good" when they break away from it. I just wish we could see something different. • @anitadarling4592
      @anitadarling4592 Год назад +58

I agree I think breaking away from family is only healthy if your family is actually very toxic. But to Disney, apparently any misunderstanding or not being ok with their kids doing whatever they want is “toxic”. And I don’t like that message being promoted because while there are disagreements, progression vs tradition, I haven’t seen an example of a movie where a parent was right to have a say, concern or a valid opposition in the decisions that their son or daughter was making.
Because in real life, your parents aren’t always “wrong” just because you FEEL differently about their perspectives. Disagreements are normal and kids should develop their own voice yes. Parents can be wrong about some things, but the message that they are always wrong at the end of every story… def something that always happens in Hollywood and entertainment industries.

@@cocothedino_2901 did we not just have Disney’s Encanto less than 2 years ago? Mirabel valued her family tradition and bonds as much as her own individuality, she just wasn’t allowed to embrace them because she didn’t fulfill the gift requirement of her grandma. Her entire goal was to save her familys tradition and to feel like a great addition to her incredible family that she spends the movie bragging about! Literally all she wanted to do is be part of the families tradition. So you indeed did get something different. Maybe that’s why Encanto is one of Disney’s most successful films ever because it was different. But it’s funny y’all say this when there’s only been 3 disney movies since Encanto.

    • @anitadarling4592
      @anitadarling4592 Год назад +14

@@miergarz3060 I agree that Encanto was a good addition.
But we’re still seeing a pattern mostly where the protagonists in these worlds are always the sons and daughters and the families are wrong. That does happen but last time parents were reasonable was in the 90s and 2000s such as The Lion King with Mufasa or Emperor’s New Groove with Pacha.
It’s difficult to be the spokesperson on healthy love to the world. Especially if Hollywood doesn’t get other perspectives and varied lessons outside of their disconnected selves from strict but good parents that do have a point about life. They have done that with Coco and Encanto, I can tell.
But the messages they don’t teach Such as: “Pursuing your dream isn’t always feesable, success rate is low, have a back up plan or try a different route.” But the actors or voice actors got to be the 10% successful and not the rest of the ppl that can’t afford to live in LA anymore.
Toy Story 4 definitely didn’t do a good job with that. Cuz Betty had to be a baddie and mean to Woody. How does he respond, he left his friends/family for her. That doesn’t go well in real life and many people end up regretting doing things like that under those specific circumstances of staying with mean gf and leaving good family behind yet nah cuz you gotta “follow your ‘heart’”.
So I hope they can really tackle the problem of water extinguishes fire, cuz I’m sure her family wouldn’t want her hurt or worse.
I’m just hoping this movie doesn’t end with a modern ideal message that isn’t practical or realistic. That’s mainly what I’m hoping.
Edit: Soul actually did show an example of not all dream jobs being as satisfying as it seems on the outside tho.

When I first heard about Disney-Pixar's upcoming film Elemental, I had high hopes for a unique and creative story. As a fan of fantasy stories, I thought this would be a great opportunity for Pixar to push their boundaries and use their animation skills to create something out of the ordinary. However, as more promotional material was released, it became clear that the film's premise was rather simplistic and familiar, resembling other recent Disney-Pixar movies like Inside Out and Zootopia. While I still expect some clever gags and entertaining moments (which hopefully aren't all in the trailers) in Elemental, I can't help but feel disappointed that Pixar hasn't taken more risks with the story and world-building. The most interesting story they've had in recent years was probably 2020's Soul, while the most original was Turning Red...
Overall, I still plan to see Elemental and hope that it will surprise me with some unexpected twists and a heartfelt message. But I can't help but wish that Pixar would be more daring and explore more unconventional themes in their films. As a studio with so much talent and resources, they have the potential to create truly groundbreaking works of animation. I'm just saying, they really need to justify why their films shouldn't be dumped onto Disney+ anymore.

Could even be an element of where climate control or something big is happening and they gotta figure out what to do.

I really think Disney-Pixar is trying to visually copy Ghibli. Luca, Turning Red, even Encanto in some ways feel like they're borrowing elements (no pun intended, but hey) from Ponyo or Howl's Moving Castle or Pom Poko. And now possibly Totoro or Spirited Away (those fire characters definitely look like a ripoff of Calcifer from Howl).
And I'm not implying that they're plagiarizing, but I think that Disney just doesn't have an identity anymore. The people in charge decided that what came before them was either "too offensive" or too old fashioned and it doesn't matter. Hence all the remakes, sequels, and reboots; that's just Bob Iger pissing all over the originals like a dog marking its territory. That movie is misunderstood by a lot of people, but for the people who have lost a parent at a very young age, that movie is a masterpiece. Not everyone understands it, but the lives of the characters (minus the magic) and the life of the screenplay writer is very similar to my own life and what my family has experience. It was a spot on movie, and I think the reason some people think it missed the mark is because they have a hard time relating to it, especially the ending

I also have an older sister, who filled the same role as Barley to Ian in the movie, so I felt like the ending was perfect. If you don't have a good relationship with our siblings, or if you don't have a sibling at all, the ending won't be very relatable. I know it would be too thought provoking for either Disney or Pixar current year to do but this sort of story trope has been told so many times and so much better.
An example I can think of is Beastars. The way the story is told in Beastars comes off more real and relatable than Zootopia.
Now don't get me wrong, I loved Zootopia but the problem is that anyone who doesn't agree with our message is an enemy and are just bad because they want to keep the status quo. Whereas in Beastars the division of carnivores and herbivores was because there were elements of danger in the scenarios were both were involved. Just like in real life, someone could get injured or killed. The characters had to deal with the hardships of what animal they were, how they were perceived by others, and their own internal struggles of their beastly nature.
It was presented in a way that you can understand why certain laws were set in place for safety but can also see why the same law could be abusive towards carnivores and abused by the same herbivores the law was supposed to protect.
Lots of cultural stories that involve the intermingling and sharing of different experiences lack the true dept of discussion that is thought provoking and help people to come to their own conclusions instead of being told what to decide.

The movie should really be titled, "Oh, we're doing this again?"
This is once again Disney's agenda to turn kids away from their parents so they can be brainwashed. This is why I prefer Dreamworks now. They're just making good stories that treat their audiences like adults. I'm actually more excited for Ruby Gillman Teenage Kraken. No pandering.

You know, apart from maybe a few examples, DreamWorks does tend to do the “parent-child” conflict thing better.
The obvious one is Stoick and Hiccup. The first movie is about the two learning how to talk to and relate to one another, with the ending having both come to respect each other. The second has that “reluctant heir” vibe, but I like how it was less of Hiccup wanted to goof and only want the positives of leading (like say Simba did as a cub) and more like he doesn’t think he can ever live up to Stoick’s example and doesn’t want to disappoint his dad.
Po and Mr. Ping have a slight issue when it comes to kung fu and the noddle shop, but both choose to mix up the two. Po still helps his dad and Mr. Ping does what he can to support his son (and make a quick coin if the opportunity arises).
Mr. Peabody and Sherman is a dad trying his best for his boy. They argue about Mr. Peabody not telling Sherman about him possibly being taken away, but Mr. Peabody is partially correct that a kid shouldn’t have to worry about that. And Mr. Peabody learns his son is growing up and Sherman can start making decisions for himself.
There’s some other examples, but I think the main thing that works is both the child and parent come from a place of love and respect for each other. Neither one is fully in the right or in the wrong, and the resolutions involve both working together.
That I think is a much better lesson for kids and adults to take. Acknowledge one side can be right and some of your points can be wrong, and work together so both gain something in the end.

Honestly, this trend that Disney and Pixar are doing is tiresome, and unoriginal. They apparently didn't seem to learn from Puss in Boots' success. How about we get a more traditional story again, with the Hero wanting to be a hero, rescuing a damsel in distress, and a villain being evil for the sake of being evil whom the Hero has to stop?
Can we go back to classic storytelling, the Heroes journey? No more of this generational, social, political crap.

Well, I agree with you apart from the damsel in distress since Puss in Boots didn't really have one because all the main characters in the Last Wish had their own strengths/weaknesses. Plus, Dreamworks is known for not going for the traditional story but rather subverting it to make it more interesting.

    Disney, here's a storyline:
Sister needs organ transplant but she's an intergalactic, interspecies adoptee. Mom stays to care for her + she's a scientist involved in research. Dad + kids go on adventure to find Sister's kin. So many things possible. Does the mom find a cure? Create a new organ? Does she find out her adopted daughter is a sophisticated android spy? Do they find her parents? Is she just a clone from a planet's death army? Does she die? Does her species turn into something else after death?

A family: kids, parents, and aunt. Aunt one day stops going out of the house, then she stops coming up for dinner, then she stops leaving the basement. The kids start feeling that their house is haunted. They hear creaking floorboards, moaning, crashing furniture. They find blood. Did the aunt die and become a ghost? Are there demons in the basement? Did she get ill? Can they catch it? Why is mom suddenly absent at the dinner table?
Okay, this one's about mental health. I really desperately want this to be a Disney movie.

I may be wrong, but I think there's something behind the fact that it's fire and water.
Fire = only follows Fire where it spreads, "burns as fire should burn"
Water = water is not just in one place, there is something here, and there (small puddles, for example) is flexible, moving on, it can be whatever he wants
Sooo your lines just look alike... Well, them!!!
The girl who accompanies the family, the boy who has a sense of freedom(I think)
Like, he can be anywhere, but she can't, and the train scene (where she burns the tree) makes me think my theory makes sense (even because of their personalities, which seem to match their element!)
I hope the plot is something like, he wants her to be free, to have her own feelings, but he also tries to prove that the elements can really mix the whole movie because yes, he loves her, he wants it to be possible and for that he would do the impossible and he wants everyone to be wrong until the moment they both find out that grandma was right... It seems that it was possible for a second, but everything goes wrong.
Well, I know it still sounds cliche, but I think this way we can have more action and excitement moments with great moments! It would bring us cliches, good parental insight and more!
Either way, I'm very excited to watch it!!!!

I could usually care less if an original film has a theme I've seen before. Most films are copies, homages, or repeats of other existing stories. To me, personally, if the journey itself from point A to point B is interesting in that you make a used theme/cliché seem new in some way and you've got worthwhile characters then I'll likely end up liking it. I mean look at "How to Train Your Dragon". That movie is full of clichés, but it's still a good movie because it made its clichés feel new and fun.

People work for companies and send out CVs and so on. They have careers. Why are they still writing stories about kids forced to take over the family shop?

It's funny that both movies (zootopia and elemental) use a similar scene to demonstrate the differences between the people that live in those worlds. Both take place in a train or train station and use the environment of that setting to show us how a hub like that has to be adapted to work for everyone and is used as a way to transition the main character into their new life and propels them into the plot of the film. This is just furthering the idea that elemental is just zootopia rebranded.
