Engie... they were tough little cans. It's worth bearing in mind, because everything the Germans fired at them bounced (apart from the ubiquitous 88mm flak guns), the Matilda was the reason Hitler pressed for the development of the Tiger 1.

This video gives an idea of the noise and power of what I thought was a small tank but it’s actually quite a size. A unit of the SS Totenkopf division faced a number of these in France in 1940. When they engaged them, the shells of their anti tank guns simply bounced off the Matildas! The SS panicked and abandoned their positions as the tanks simply rolled through them.
in my mind, the matilda was first real "heavy" tank. even if some folks consider it a medium its armor was designed to negate everything of the day, and speed wasn't a priority. it did both those things when it was first produced

The Matilda tank, in the 40's its armour was the equivalent of the tiger tank but armed with a peashooter. It was an counter-attack by Matilda's at Arras May 1940 that was said to have led to the German's using the 88 flak guns to stop them, as everything else that the German's fielded couldn't stop them!
Australias own Tank used in 42 in Africa. Even had the Airfix model as a kid and painted it all up in the correct Camouflage paint in 1972. Great to see a survivor.Didnt know of any. I remember a Centurion tank came into a scrap yard and they bought it and put it out the front as an icon. It was there for years. To a little kid it was a big scary menacing thing.
I remember the first time I came across it while looking for information on British tanks of World War II: I thought: at least it looks like a modern tank. The armoured tracks give it a robust appearance. In addition to its insufficient speed, its gun became obsolete shortly after entering service.

I just love it that ordinary Australians own and keep their Matildas and other tanks running.
Not with fuel prices the way they are.

Probably the best tier 4 tank, especially city maps. Apart from its speed, everything else is good.
