I wish these books were written when I was around middle school/high school. I would have read them! I started switching from teen books to adult books when I was in the 6th grade which was damn near a decade before the first book was released. However, I am really enjoying the series so far!
oh man, i read the books LATE. like high school. and i DEVOURED THEM. so so good. and Percy is a MENACE. in the best possible way. i cannot wait for you to get through this.
If the shows can continue to stay as faithful to the books as the first two episodes we all in for a wild ride. I read the series when I was graduating high school/a freshman in college around like 2010-2011 so I was over the age of the target audience but I wasn't like an adult adult yet and loved them ever since. I'm so glad we're getting a proper adaptation over them terrible movies lmao
Love your reaction! I've seen a lot of non-book readers watch this that did see the movie and so they have some frame of reference, but seeing you go in completely blind is a delight!! I love how quickly you attached to Percy, as a book reader, Walker (his actor) is doing PHENOMENAL. He IS Percy Jackson. Instant sub so I can catch your next reaction. If you ever do decide to read Percy Jackson, you won't regret it. Its still my favorite comfort read after a decade when I'm not feeling well, as I can get through The Lightning Thief in a day if I dedicate the whole day to it. Even if it was made for kids and kind of has that line of humor as it's from Percy's POV, he's got such a fun and sarcastic tone that you just get a glimpse of in the show that feels a little more mature than just a kiddy type book. And even then, its still got some serious drama and themes in it thats unexpected in a kids book! A little backstory for it as well, the author Rick Riordan started Percy Jackson as a bedtime story for his son with ADHD and Dyslexia because he used to tell him Greek Mythology as bedtime stories but eventually ran out of stories to tell, and made up new myths for him set in the modern day with a protagonist just like him. That kid is now 29!!
@@ManicMeeksI just reread them for the first time as an adult (read them a while ago when I was still in school) and I have to say, I enjoyed it MUCH more as an adult. It’s surprisingly dark and unhinged at some times but I get it because of the source material I think. Maybe if you get the chance to read into it (like at a bookstore) you could just skim over it to see if you like it?
I've seen quite a few reaction videos to this episode. My niece loved the books. The fact that so far you and I are the only people recognizing Megan Mullally, has me this close to eating ice cream out of the tub using double stuff Oreos as a spoon.
just a heads up, these books are not bad to read, they are genuinely a breeze and so entertaining cause its all percys pov and he is genuinely funny. i highly recommend reading them seeing how much you liked the first ep! 😊
Yaaay! Your reactions are fun to watch! Even as an adult, I still read the books from time to time. It's my comfort series that's why it's so personal to me. I'm really excited for you to see future episodes. You'll gonna have a blast.
i just saw this video pop up and totally had a silent freak out!!! none of the reactors /i know/ have reacted to this series thus far and ive been HUNGRY for a reaction man im STARVINGGG p.s. i just got around to reading this series last year (in my early 20s) and finished all 5 books in a few dats!!
YAAAAASSSSSSSS!!!!!! I AM SO GLAD YOU'RE REACTING TO THIS SHOW!!! ALWAYS LOVE your reactions!! I understand your reasons, but I'm sad you won't read the books bc they're AWESOME!! Just a fun, adventurous story from start to end! Girl I'm at least 10yrs older than you and just re-read them for maybe the 9th or 10th time. So much fun!! Anyway, from someone who has read and really enjoyed the books, let me tell you this - Episode #1 all on its own is BETTER THAN BOTH MOVIES. Anyone can fight me on that too bc this old lady will happily throw hands over that. 😆🤣 Now, all of that being said, I'm very glad you're already invested (I hate kids being picked on also) and I know you'll enjoy the hell outta this show!! CAN'T WAIT FOR THE REST!!! Also looking forward to your reactions to S2 of What If...?
Haha, I just made a veeeery similar comment before I saw yours! Late 40s here, so I read this and all the other modern/well-known YA stuff as an adult. Mostly as an adult with kids of my own. Hey, good books are good books! I feel like we didn’t have much to choose from when we were the target age. I just “borrowed” my parents’ books as a kid.
You have to try this series! I was a school librarian when this series came out, my reluctant readers loved. I would have parents who were reading the series to their kids who would come in and get the next book in advance and tell Me not to let their kids know they were reading ahead. It’s a fast read, lots of action, really pulls you in.
You should know that Mr. Bruner(if that’s his name) was actually white in the books so I’m not really sure if he really fits into the magical negro trope.
I absolutely love watching the reaction of someone that is going completely blind into this story, and you're so much fun to watch in general! Thank you for this reaction
The books are a very easy and quick read, they are very fun even for adults. But Sincerely, the series is very faithful to the source material, so if you don't have time to read it, you just have as much as fun watching it.
I read these books with my youngest son when he was in 6th grade, and I actually fell in love with the writing. It was a better read than HP or HG back then. Fast forward 12 years, now I have to re-read all 3 to see if my original opinion holds.
The first Percy Jackson book series is 5 books (hopefully all 5 get made into a TV series), but if you don't think you could read it you might be able to read the 2nd series when you get caught up with the plot! It seems more serious than the 1st series (since the books aged with the audience) and even though I'm not an avid reader I read all 5 in less than a month
I did! I was kinda finished growing up but I loved them anyway (early 90s?). It was confusing to me how NOBODY online was familiar with The Midnight Club on Netflix last year, and complained about Mike Flanagan doing a “kids’ show”; how had nobody read any of Pike’s books??
I can read some kids and teens stuff like I love the so you want to be a wizard books but most of it I just can't also Anne McCaffery's off shoot of The dragon riders of PERN novels was for young adults Dragonsong Dragonsinger and Dragondrums are still some of my favorite literature.
I read the books when i was 12-16. And as a 26 year old I find the books just as, if not more entertaining as an adult. I’m so happy about this TV show as it is the first faithful adaptation we’re getting
I love watching your reaction! It's also cool to see this show through the eyes of someone who hasn't read the books or seen the movies!

I do have really hard time reading anything in a kids voice. I might not read them, but I will watch the HELL outta this show. I'm already invested!

great to see what a newbie thinks of this awesome story!

The minotaur wearing undies is such a clever but hilarious way of showing just how much the "human" and "godly" world have weird overlap.
oh i cannot wait for your reaction to episode 2 😩

Glad you doing the series! Knew you would hate the bully girl that much 😂
JUST LET ME TALK TO HER FOR A MINUTE!!! I can't stand folks who bully. They can definitely catch hands and feet!
loved ur reaction

One of the people in the principals office is the author of the series.

Christopher Pike!! I don't know anyone else who read him growing up!! Love that we read some of the same books.
I did! I was kinda finished growing up but I loved them anyway (early 90s?). It was confusing to me how NOBODY online was familiar with The Midnight Club on Netflix last year, and complained about Mike Flanagan doing a “kids’ show”; how had nobody read any of Pike’s books??
@@falsenostalgia-shannon Right, I guess he is a pretty niche author. Did you like the Midnight Club on Netflix?
I love your reactions, you're so cute ❤
Love your reaction! Will you be posting full reactions of Percy on your Patreon by any chance? :)
Yes I will!!!
@@ManicMeeks awesome, thank you for your reply! :)
Yay!!
I know I’m off topic but are you doing Blue Eye Samurai? I would love to see your reaction.
