    This is Brian Wampler's take on the legendary 1176 studio compressor. Let's see how it sounds and what you should expect from it. Sweet sustain, nice tone coloration and so on. Good stuff.

    Great demo, especially the single notes / chords in clean sound part, and also thé test in front office an overdriven amp. Very clear. And thanks for your english easy to understand for me (I'm french).

    Based on this Sound Samples here on RUclips it´s a nice Compressor but I still like my Walrus Mira more (got it for 50% off at Thomann as a clearance sale, it was a steal! Lucky me). In my ears, the Mira is smoother in the way it reacts and how it handles the compression, and is more transparent. But this is a nice comp too, though.
    And as alwasy, nice playing, Kris :)

    I value your opinion on this. If you could have either the Wampler Ego76 or the J Rocket Airchild, which would you choose and why. Also which has the lowest noise?

    Hey Kris, are there situations when the ego Mini or standard Ego would be more appropriate than the 76?

      Ohh wow, that's like asking parents which is their favourite child. 🤣
      For uncoloured and precise studio compression (and for bass) I love the Empress Compressor.
      For a quick and awesome clean guitar tone the Wampler EGO or the EGO76.
      For a super sweet, warm and pretty studio compression (same, also awesome for bass) the J Rockett Airchild.
      That's as close as i can get to a favourite comp. Cheers!

      @@KrisBarocsi you have a good taste in tones & a good ear, hoping one of it will be an affordable conpressor but damn its always the boutique ones 😅, what do you think of the SP compressor?

      @@Ihsan-vo6uc Thank you! Do you mean the Xotic compressor? Also great but I find the EGO Mini easier to go from super mild to pretty radical. It’s very subjective though, all of these are really good.

    Ok ok. Wampler does great pedals ... and their compressors are just beautiful
    BUT
    me does use a drive in front of everything, which does add some smooth compression too (esp. the Wampler Euphoria esp. with a Tele at slight brakeup ... just give it a try, Kris ) ... so no need for this ...
    I could make use of a skill expander, cause i do suck at playing guitar

    • @KrisBarocsi
      @KrisBarocsi  4 месяца назад +2

      Yeah man, you know me, I too have a low gain drive on almost all the time. That’s pretty much my compressor, same as for you. 😅
      That being said, the only 2 things I do in post production for my guitar tones on the channel is
      1. a low cut under 100Hz and
      2. a very subtle 1176 or LA-2a compression.
      That’s like a very basic studio “treatment” but man is it awesome. 👌
      (Obviously for this video I didn’t use a compressor plugin since I had the Wampler on already)

      @@KrisBarocsi I appreciate the detail here. And I really think the majority of us that use always-on compressor pedals also have OD happening, whether it's from pushing an amp beyond clean with chords or using an OD pedal. The criticism just doesn't speak to the typical gig rig for a blues or rock guitarist...or possibly even a modern country player.

    I am very sceptic about compressors . It actually kills dynamics imho . It is usable in specific cases but doesn't have my preference. I'd rather keep my money or save it for something else in the chain.
    So far I've used a boss cs-3. Even turned off it is there... Just in case. Never liked it.

    • @DrZAmplification
      @DrZAmplification 4 месяца назад +2

      that's your first problem! Not a great compressor. Great compressors can increase your touch sensitivity!

    • @camielkotte
      @camielkotte 4 месяца назад +1

      @@DrZAmplification yes, so I ve heard many tell me. I owned fender amps all my life. Princeton, tweed, twin, super... Maybe it's more of a thing for the Marshall / bandmaster like amps?
      I really don't know. Just asking.
      Touch sensitivity I get when dialing in the guitar with volume around 7 and crank up the amp. The little and big amps do that in a way I am happy with.
      Will try a "better" compressor sometime in a shop. Depends a lot on the amp too I guess...

    • @KrisBarocsi
      @KrisBarocsi  4 месяца назад +1

      @@DrZAmplification Hey guys, love your amps. 🤗
      Yeah that’s it, a good compressor (like the LA-2a, 1176, Fairchild, etc.) is more like “the opposite of a reverb”. They bring the notes to the front and make a guitar tone more lively instead of just squashing it. That’s what I tried with the intro track, nice sustain and all but still very dynamic.

      @@KrisBarocsi Thank you Kris, your videos are always interesting. We like the Suhr Woodshed comp. Similar in response to a 1176 style comp.

    • @DrZAmplification
      @DrZAmplification 3 месяца назад +1

      @@camielkotte sounds like by cranking the amp really saturating it's output section, and experiencing the natural compression that comes with that, so you have definitely got that part right.
