    The 1176 Compressor needs no introduction because its classic FET circuit has graced so many albums and has a myriad of uses. But for guitar, Brian Wampler wanted to do more than just make a clone, mainly because this fast acting analog comp was designed for applications outside of the guitar-amp signal chain. To make the EGO 76 more adaptable, his wizardry included a clean blend to let the instruments transients and peak through while an active tone control lets you maximize twang or mellow out stacked gain stages. The precision of a studio comp is all there too, with Attack and Release along with loads of makeup gain to overcome the squishiest settings. The Wampler EGO 76 runs on standard 9VDC and features a sparkle finish to match its tone. Check out this studio inspired compressor at WamplerPedals.com

    Saw Wampler's own video on this and began to drool having loved the 1176 blue stripe since I was a kid. Your demo in the beginning was probably the best compressor demo I've heard in a very long time, too!!

    Fantastic demo. I've never really felt the need for a compressor but seeing the way this pedal smoothed out the harsh transients on the clean signal without sounding processed is making me reconsider. Placing it at the end of the signal chain to even out the two different distortions is brilliant.

    WAMPLER makes the best pedal line.
    For decades Boss was my go to. Hasn't been that way in several yrs now

      Wampler is top-notch, for sure, but Boss is one of my favorite brands. I wouldn’t put one above the other.
      The Boss CP-1X is, by far, my favorite compressor pedal. I prefer it over the famous Origin Cali76, believe it or not.
      This Wampler Ego76 sounds great. If I didn’t already have the Boss I’d definitely pick one up.

      I’ve never been disappointed, when buying a Wampler.
      I used his Velvet Fuzz, as my distortion and Fuzz Face sounds, for several years. That thing just sings with a wah, and it can go anywhere in a pedal chain. I used his Plexi for awhile, until I traded with someone, to try a different drive. It was a JHS Twin Twelve, that just didn’t work with my rig, and I sold it.
      The Latitude Deluxe, I didn’t keep, but it was only because I really didn’t need all its features, and I had rediscovered Harmonic Tremolo, which it didn’t do. Otherwise, it’s a great tremolo, with many options, for a pedal from nearly a decade ago.
      He makes quality stuff, and he doesn’t pretend circuits are something they aren’t.
      I remember watching his videos on frequencies, and how much more important they were for what one uses to cut through a mix, than a drive that sounds good, outside of one, but doesn’t cut through well, without stacking it.

      I would get one too, but I got the DSM & Humboldt ClearComp for $99 new, during a clearance sale this winter, after seeing them many times, being sold for $249 new.
      It’s a lot like this Wampler. Many of the same features, with a few options the Wampler doesn’t, but really modeled off the same style of studio compressor.
      It’s quiet, and I can do all the things I need, and the things I don’t.
      The Boss one added too much noise, but I didn’t have a great power supply, and I was using cheap cables, at that time. My amp was also pretty bright, so that Boss buffer brightened it even more. Now, I use a buffered loop, for all my pedals, so I get the same signal with a Boss in the chain.
      I’m sure I could use it fine now, and it was near the top of my list of ones to get, before I saw that ClearComp sale.

    I’d be interested in this, as it’s the type of Compressor I like to use live, but I just recently got the DSM & Humboldt ClearComp, that has a similar feature set, but were priced at $249 new, for awhile. I grabbed a new one for $99, during a clearance sale.
    It’s a killer compressor. All the issues I’ve had with others, aren’t in it, and it has the blend like this one.
    It can do the squeeze, but it’s better for just a different flavor and sustain, like a studio one.
    Really dig the tone it got, placed after the Pantheon.

    What a great idea for a compressor, I really dig this, great playing Andy! Do you use a compressor often? I imagine playing with your fingers it makes a much bigger difference in the way you play?

    • @AndyDemos
      @AndyDemos  4 месяца назад +4

      Hey thanks for watching! I do like compressors for certain applications (12-string obviously) but one reason I like fingerpicking is the dynamics and compression is designed to narrow that. That being said, the clean blend is a great way you can have it all👍🏻

    Great demo as always. How does this compare to the tone of the Wampler Ego

    • @AndyDemos
      @AndyDemos  4 месяца назад +4

      It's not really a tone thing but how differently they react/respond to volume attenuation. The EGO76 is FET where the EGO (DynaComp/Ross etc) has a OTA circuit. In general, FET are very quick to respond and much more Hi-Fi (why studios like em) and OTA are more squishy and funky (why guitarists like em).
