Last August my girlfriend's bone cancer made a return after 3 years of remission. The tumor was on a particularly tricky part of her hip, such that removal wasn't an option. She opted for an experimental surgical process called REF therapy. Things looked bad. At that time I was writing her eulogy. Now, she has 7 months of cancer-free bloodwork behind her. And we're planning our wedding. This video hit me hard.
Meghan Mulcahy GOD Bless The Both Of You 🙏🏼😢🙏🏼 I Am So So Very Sorry You Had Too Go Though This 😢 But SOOOOOOOOO PLEASE YOU HAVE COME OUT THE OTHER SIDE AS WINNERS 🤗🍀🤗🍀🤗🍀
So much of what we understand about love, for better or worse, happens early on in life. The fact that it’s the kid who walks up to the casket, he’s the one that’s hurting most. Feelings are not linear, and when some people go away, your whole timeline hurts.
How the hell is it that this could make me tear up a hell lot more than a 2 hour movie about the same kind of story. The fact that he just walks away in the end without making it through just kills it, all the while a deceptively-happy tuned music plays along. Damnit Fallon, them feels.
As someone else wrote, Brian's song's are so catchy you sometimes don't get their true depth and meaning until you pay closer attention to the lyrics, or videos like this. As usual, he tells a great story in a way few other songwriters are capable of. The '70's is the decade referred to as the one belonging to the singer/songwriter; James Taylor, Jackson Browne, Bob Seger, just to name a few. Brian, great job on keeping that tradition alive in an era when you turn on the TV and see so much garbage being marketed as "music". You're a true "wordsmith"; looking forward to seeing you again in San Diego at the end of next month!
Every morning I drink coffee , put headphones on and search for new music. Not sure how I stumbled across Brian and Gaslight. OH, I do know.I was watching a springsteen video and Brian was on stage and having a ball. I found out who he was and began searching . That's it,that's all folks. I am now hooked. I made a killer playlist on my phone. Can't get enough........great music,,,
Omg, his voice has something, I'm getting so addicted! I recently found him through a song of "Scream VI" called "you have stolen my heart"!!! 🥺🥺🥺🥺❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Mr. Fallon, I love you! ❤️💐
Another amazing song from Brian . His music is truly something special. I'm sure we all can find similarities from our lives that we can connect to his music.
I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve listened to this incredible song & watched this amazingly made video but to the woman playing the grown up little girl. You are strikingly beautiful... whoever you are, just wow
5 years later, coming back to this video, realizing that this really destroys me since he died. We met as young kids, and the end when his boyhood self walks to the casket, breaks me into tears. I feel like it’s me, all over again. I miss him forever; for the rest of my life. The pain that is…. 12/29/2021
Rest in peace Melanie Dudgeon. In the moment you are still with us but in an hour you won't be. I never got to thank you properly for keeping me off the streets this horrible winter. I am NOT prepared for this. You have a beautiful daughter who's going to miss the hell out of her, and I can only do my best to try to help her through it. Gosh.....please say hi to dad for me..
I discovered to the Gaslight Anthem like two years ago with the cool Great Expectations and Handwritten. Brian Fallon is the man, one of my music idols! Fallon is an awesome song writter, and i love this new country/folky side of him. If you read this, thanks a lot for your music! :)
I think of myself as a tough guy but this song made me cry by the end. It reminds me too much of Veronica the only girl I ever can truly say I fell in love with. We where engaged and so in love. She died of cancer while I was in Afghanistan. I kick myself for not finding a way to come home and take care of her. This past march will make nine years since her passing and I still think about her everyday. I move from one girl to the next and I never get that spark we had and I guess I never will.
@@shithouserat9834 I believe you’ll find that spark again. Bet on yourself. I’m so sorry for your loss of Veronica, but something tells me she’ll guide you to the spark.
To me the song is more then just about the typical boy that loves a girl theme. For me it's about being so heavily invested in someone and being madly in love and for this in the video it started and progressed as they got older. What video doesn't show is what I think happened. The boy and girl parted ways, for good at least for the moment. However, the boy still loved her madly through the ages. And i think his face shows it all the shock of one day maybe years after something needed you find out that the person you loved died.the scenes are obviously memories that he kept with him over the years. And in the end he puts the flowers down as he's not ready to face her and see her after all these years knowing he still loves her and they can never be together now. Wishing it could be different.
I view it more that he chose to hang on to the memories of her and didn't want his last memory of her to be seeing her laying in the coffin. He couldn't find the strength to see her like that and have that memory.
The Lyrics always spoke in another way to me, in my head it was more a "looking back with watering eyes but smiling". The video changed the point of view! That's very interesting, in how people see and feel songs. Now it's a still that kinda happy song to me; with a little more water in the eyes. Thanks! Masterpiece!
Well, reminds me of my first love at 15 & he was 20! We've been married 42 years now & we'll be seeing you at Shaky Knees Fest in Atlanta in May! We'll be the couple that the chicks going nuts and the dudes just watching her! geniusGreat voice, really excited for the 3 days! ( bought for The 1975) but finding some great music I'd if never found! See you soon!
Who put these tears here? Heard this at work, and then read the lyrics there, sad and poetic. It's strange how much of an unknown life constantly is. You never know who's gonna make it through life's journey with you, and who's time is just going to run out. Great song, so deeply sad.

This video hit me hard.
Hey buddy I'm glad to hear that. Hope all is well with you both and may you have a long and happy life.
hope the wedding was awesome
Hope All is well .

Bro, "your whole timeline hurts" god damn. You gave me a legitimate existential epiphany with that.
If you've ever dealt with losing someone you can't live without, this song hits you right where you're weakest. Thanks, and God damn you brian.
Eight years since my love of my life left this planet. I still can't live without him. But I exist.

He's raspy like Springsteen, moody like Waits and wordy like dylan. A fantastic combination!
Word.
Brian Fallon is here to make you cry at your desk on a casual Wednesday afternoon
It's Tuesday, but yeah.
It's actually Wednesday. Two years in the future, but still Wednesday.
So glad I didn't watch this on a Wednesday at my desk. Would definitely have some explaining to do regarding the tears streaming down my face
And now it's Wednesday afternoon, crying at my desk hah
I am now listening to this song on a Wednesday afternoon, sad because I haven't seen my gf in 3 weeks due to the quarantine. Fun times.
" New waves old stones" wow just wow what a song writer. Brian Fallon quite possibly the most under appreciated artist in Rock n Roll history.
I lost most of myself pleasing everyone. What a line.
Fallon is one our generations best. A true legend.
This video was absolutely beautiful. First time I've seen a music video that made me cry and totally changed the song for me.
+The Great Expectations another one that will make you cry, or atleast contemplate things is Drag my body by Hot Water Music
To me Gaslight Anthem's video of Handwritten was also one of those.
+Niko Tuunanen Yeah, the video for "Handwritten" makes me bawl.
When he said " I must have lived a lifetime without you, you must have ended up somebodys angel" I lost it
Dude...how many times are you going to make me cry with your songs?
Brian Fallon makes all the feels real. This is one of them. He has many others.
How the hell is it that this could make me tear up a hell lot more than a 2 hour movie about the same kind of story. The fact that he just walks away in the end without making it through just kills it, all the while a deceptively-happy tuned music plays along. Damnit Fallon, them feels.
never getting to the casket but letting his two younger selves get there is a nice move...

Brian Fallon dont ever change. Your music is amazing. Christ this song is hitting me right in the feelz right now.
This is fucking sad. Brian Fallon, crushing our hearts through the years.
Well I didn't plan on crying tonight, but it's cool whatever.
Same, didn't plan on crying at 5:30 on a Sunday when I don't have to work tomorrow but here I am
Same. Divorced over 5 years now and it just hit me like a ton of bricks.
❤❤❤
Definatley the best music video cinematicly
Listening since one hour. Audience in my head can't get enough of that. Tween silent tears and standing ovations. Lovin this kind of core melancholy.

That was such a random place to hear his music as a long time fan but i'm super glad it brought on board another :)
Welcome to the beauty of pain
Man I can never get enough of this guy s songs such a great musician
Another amazing song from Brian . His music is truly something special. I'm sure we all can find similarities from our lives that we can connect to his music.
I'm suing Brian Fallon for undue emotional distress.
righto
I was so mad at the end of this song... It's so good but so sad
