    I was there, in fact I saw myself on the video. Twenty years ago now.
    Incredible.
    But what REALLY got me was firstly, the driver thought, let's see what this baby can still do and drove her hard and she took it all in her stride.
    But also when it got to the edge of the train shed at Picc, as you heard on this, EVERY SINGLE other train in there, saluted her with their horns, as she sadly but proudly passed into history.
    Not going to pretend, it got me right there on the day and still does to this day
    Gone, but certainly NOT forgotten.
    RIP Class 101's that didn't make it into preservation.

    Amazing how long these were in service and I’m surprised that they got such a big send off. Don’t think I’ve ever been on these units when they were in service but I have rode one (or one of the other 1st gen DMU’s) in preservation. Shame the pacers didn’t get such a big send off but they were retired in the middle of COVID so maybe that is why..

    I wish they'd bring these trains back, along with other slam-doors, it beats waiting for the ticket conductors to get their payment for tickets before they open the doors, if that made sense? It's why most trains are late, the conductors too busy selling tickets, instead of letting passengers on the train.

      Uhh what era do you think this is? Ticket machines are pretty much at every station now. Never seen a guard sell tickets on the platform. If they do they would most likely do it on the train.

    • @Jadeykins83
      @Jadeykins83 2 месяца назад

      @@Mgameing123 I'll try to rephrase it, train conductors operate the doors on the trains, a lot of them, especially on northern, are too busy slowly walking down the train checking tickets, while the train is at the station, people waiting to get off or on, but can't because the conductor wont open the doors until he's checked everyones tickets. It's annoying, and there was 0 waiting with slam door trains, you could open the door yourself. I hope that makes more sense?
