This is my favorite tutorial. I have seen so many ways to make a roman shade but this technique gives you a great roman shade look without the complicated process of making them! I can't wait to make these for my large kitchen window and the french doors that are on the same wall as the large kitchen window! I'll post pics once I have them finished!
Kamila: If by a more pleated look you mean you want more (narrower) pleats on your shade, just space the vertical rings more closely together than the 6" recommended here. You would not want to go closer than 4" between each ring, however. Hope that helps! Feel free to reply if we misunderstood the question.
Really good, easy to follow demo. Thanks. Love the fabric. Can't wait to move home to dig out my sewing machine and make something! Have to settle for watching vids on RUclips for a little while longer.
Cathy: The split rings are available on the RowleyDIY website: type "ring" in the search field and the split rings are on the second page of the search. Best of luck with your project.
Love this video & tutorial! I'm making stationary roman shade for a 60 inch window. Do I need dowels or a weighted bar? Most of the instructions I find are for very small windows and the wider window is not addressed. Thanks!
Hello Karen. Thanks for watching the video! For this style shade valance, you may space the vertical rows of rings a pleasing distance for the size of folds you would like your shade to have. Typically this may be between 6-10". The further the distance between the vertical rows, the larger the folds of fabric.
Hi Jenny - the inside diameter of the split rings in the video is 9/16". The outside diameter is 7/8". Please let us know if you have any other questions regarding this project. Thanks!
Split Rings can be found on our DIY site here - www.rowleydiy.com/DIY/DIYSplitRings.asp. I hope that helps! Feel free to call one of our Customer Experience Representatives for further assistance at 1-800-343-4542.

IF YOU CAN'T FIND SPLIT RINGS...Just buy a few extra solid rings and cut them with a pair of snips. They will do the exact same thing.
Thank you!! The split rings I've bought are practically impossible to use. They're as tightly wound as key rings. I'll try your tip.
loved this method. i didn't want rods as its only a tiny window !!! this really did the job . thankyou xx
Great video, clear and easy to follow. Thank you.
Thanks so much!!! Nicely done. Exactly what I needed to complete my kitchen window. Love love!!!

Do i have to line the fabric?
Yes, you should line with white or cream cotton or cotton/poly blend mid or lightweight fabric.
Love this, thank you! ❤
Thank you for great video! Where can I find plastic hook strip with holes?
Just buy some Velcro Tape 😊
Thank you very much. Well explained and easy to do
Great tute! Saving as a favorite.

In England, the only split rings available are metal and quite difficult to work with.

What is the advantage of using the hook strip vs. the pocket? Wish I could see both completed so I can see how one looks vs. the other.
This is great… but I can’t find the plastic hook strip anywhere.
Is it called something else in the UK?
Velcro Tape in UK
Great Video - how far apart vertically are the rings? 6" from the bottom, then how far to the next row of rings?

I would love a link to the plastic rings and split rings that you used...I plan on making these for my kitchen window! THANKS!
How far apart vertically do you put each row of plastic rings?

Could this technique be used for a relaxed Roman shade look?
+Brenda Parker Absolutely. Instead of cutting a rectangle, cut a trapezoid
(wider at the bottom than the top) to get a swag effect on the final shade.
How many in between rings for the pleate
Susan, Thank you.
Thank u! Can't wait to try this!
Where can I get the split rings?
Thank you very much
Could i just place rings on the outside for a relaxed roman shade?
Yes, that would create a droopy relaxed look in middle of shade.
what are the dimensions of your fabric?
Always intended to make one just never did, but this video is good
Please let us know how it turns out, and feel free to post a photo on our Facebook page. We'd love to see what you make.

Just cut the solid rings with snips. They work just the same as "split rings" because you "split" them.
A list of the materials needed would have been helpful but great tutorial.
If I want Roman Shade..... I go to Rome and stand in the Shade! 😂😂😂😂😂
Wow!!!!!😳😃😃
This is great… but I can’t find the plastic hook strip anywhere.
Is it called something else in the UK?
Could snap's be used to create the folds instead of rings?
