Never soldered before but after watching this I tried this fix. Worked like a charm! The old battery had detached from the board and had broken pins, so I sourced a new battery (the hardest part of the fix). Followed your instructions and it worked fine. Thanks!
Neil, great video! Worked perfect for me too. Take great care fellow youtubers, don't cut your fingers off...delicate pressure, and some patience this works perfect! If you are going to do this make sure you have a new Sharp unused blade for this as it will make it easier and less likely for a trip to the Emergency room for stitches in your hand or finger or whatever else.
Thanks Neil, worked great on my mini key. It stopped working and once opened I found one of the connections to the battery had come adrift. Soldered back on and all working ok. Saved me a few quid. Cheers.
Brilliant post - many thanks. Bizarrely, there was nothing obviously wrong when I opened my key, but having prodded it a bit I tried it anyway... blow me down if it didn't start working. I think the daylight must've scared it into operating again. Anyway, hurrah! I can get the top up / down on my cabriolet without standing there looking like a lemon. What a great thing to fix just going in to winter. :D
I did the same replaces the battery but it didn’t worked as the battery was not charged enough so I used a Philips tooth brush charger to charger the battery left it overnight. Then programmed it and bingo it started working
Got as far as opening the key. The only problem is actually replacing the battery due to the difference in the battery housings. Plus, I cut the leads off the board which means I'll need to get it re soldered. Not giving up!
I know this is an older video, but can anyone link, or give me the battery type, code, as the one Im looking at on Amazon are around £16. But Neil on here says its a standard battery. What battery do I need to get please? Any help very miuch appreciated.
Hey, I have the same problem with the batterie, but i opened the key and cut off a resistor. Have anybody some idea which specification or expolosition for the remote control? I can solder the new resistance. Please help.
This is great. Thanks. But in my case I thought I can replace the battery itself for my Mini Cooper 2008!Conv R52 - Been searching online and see if there is a way I can replace the battery and thanks to this video. I went to the dealer to ask help - my key doesn't lock and unlock my door anymore and I was told I do need a new Fob keys and battery was not the issue. Its suck it will cost me from $225 to $275 for a new replacement. I can't afford to spend this much And I guess im stuck with this with manually lock. ANY SUGGESTION... Help if there is a way.
Be very careful once you are inside...the top (+ side) has a spot weld as does the bottom...I broke the bottom trying to get the top solder to release...ARGH! ...might be garbage at this point...

thank you, I just tried this and once opened and jiggled around a bit it's working again! Right after I just paid $429AUD for a replacement of course.
Yes it's working. I bought a new rechargeable lithium battery at eBay and replaced the old one. Thanks so much

Thank you for taking the time to post this! That key is identical to mine, and I asked the local BMW how much for a replacement.

Nice guide but I couldn't see anything wrong with my PCB components and also tested 3v at the battery solder joints so I'm still at a loss :(
Just fixed mine after watching your video! I'm a very happy boy now thanks!
great video opened key without a problem, tried key fob before replacing the battery and it worked 👍

GtotheHad Think I should construct some sort of disclaimer for this video!! Hope you didn't need stiches!?
Yo se k ya tiene mucho su video pero mil gracias me salvo Dios lo bendiga desde matamoros coah
Many thanks.
Doesn't work. Don't bother trying it. The glue is so tightly stuck I cut myself without even getting remotely close to opening it.
