The audio on Beast Busters 2nd Nightmare (in MAME) is still a bit of a problem, but I made some significant improvements to the video emulation in MAME over the last year, so a lot of the priority bugs (life bar going behind the 3D etc.) that are present in the footage here are no longer a problem at least.
Audio is.. difficult. It's basically a decent quality synth/sampler/sequencer (the Akai MPC-3000) transplanted onto an arcade board, rather than one of the more common audio solutions. The audio DSP used is completely undocumented, and quite capable, so reverse engineering it from how the software wants it to behave alone is a real challenge.

Thank you for your hard work on MAME, the help this has on game preservation cant be understated. As well just purely keeping these titles alive for future generations to experience and enjoy. I still have my ever growing MAME collection from the early 2000s. Arcades are a thing of the past where I live unfortunately so without MAME a lot of these would have been lost to time in my area. Thank you

Another light gun arcade game I remember enjoying a lot was,....it was up to 3 players, each one a different color, and the ghosts were like a cartoon-ish art style and holograms. Like, you could only see where they were on the screen by looking through the square glass 'sight' on top of your gun. I remember one level (maybe the first?) was a haunted house type theme.

Theres a Silent Hill arcade cab at Galloping Ghost arcade along with Castlevania Arcade, but the former is rarely working whenever I go to visit, its just the nature of light gun games, they require the most up keep to make sure the guns stay in synch and when you have as many hands touching it as that place does with hundreds of other games in need of attention, you'll rarely find a light gun game 100% ready to go

funny story on Night Slashers, I'd picked up the Switch version and my wife was watching me play... 90% of her gaming is more modern stuff, so imagine my surprise when she told me that she wanted to try it! It's kind of jank, but we had a ton of fun just smashing zombie heads into the pavement and just credit feeding our way through it. jankness aside it's definitely a good candidate for a halloween playlist. we did also play through the HOTD remake, I definitely recommend locating a pistol grip shell, although there aren't really many other games that will use it but it definitely helps the experience in HOTDR!

First, this was an awesome informative video.
And second, is there any Namco-like light gun you can use with an emulator? Something that works with the steam deck or any of the new Chinese consoles?

I've been watching SNES Drunk for years now, and I just want to express how much I appreciate that if there's a convenient/modern/sensible way to obtain these games he supplies as much information as possible to purchase it. And if that isn't possible, you should play the game "any way you can"

Nintendo is really missing a golden opportunity with Luigi's Mansion. Especially with the Switch. But it's probably because of a contract deal.

What arcade game that I know you forgot would be Carn-Evil, made by midway. My buddy Rikkaku reminded ne of this one and it's one of those crazy games with an interesting development story to boot. He even has the gun from the arcade cabinet in his house, it's freaking great!

iirc the Zombie Raid cabinet used pump shotguns as the lightgun hardware, and you had to rack them to reload!
Also, Zombie Revenge is so friggin cool. Pretty sure you can suplex the zombies in that one, long before Leon Kennedy and Chris Redfield were doing that, lol!

Space Gun had one of the greatest light guns ever. The weight, the rumble feature, the pump option, all of it. I'd pay a king's ransom for a NERF gun or something that simulated it.

Beast Busters is really good, i remember when i first saw the cabinets with the machine guns which also had rumble to mimic the recoil. It was great, spent god knows how money on them, but never finished it.

Space Gun and Splatter House the the best horror feeling of these games. You should have included the original arcade version of Ghost n Goblins on the list.

Good stuff. A lot of nostalgia for when life and the world seemed so much simpler.

Thumbs up for Space Gun. Love that game, and the best Aliens game made.

    "Mine crystals to make Sinibombs"
Sinibombs would have made a great cereal name in the 80's, with Sinistar as the mascot.

It’s amazing the ones in the 80s and early 90s were even made. Good time to grow up
