Mario World changes after you beat special Road, no need for 96Levels. My Dad usually did Special World after the first Star Road entrance and played the game with the new look usually.

I do an annual playthrough of Super Castlevania IV every Halloween, So I'm very excited to play that tomorrow.
Also, props for adding Laplace's Demon and SMT 1. SMT 1 in particular is very good at nailing it's atmosphere.

You're spot on about Metroid. It was inspired by the Alien franchise, right? I think I read that somewhere. Anyways, the survival-horror aspect is exactly why I loved Metroid Fusion so much, though I didn't realize it then as a kid. I just knew I had to play through it over and over. That game is like living through a suspense thriller movie. It's epic.

Super Metroid truly gives you a feeling of being alone. More so than any other game. I like many others can only pray they make a new 2D one in the same vein as Super Metroid

    • @peterc504
      @peterc504 4 года назад

Totally agreed. I would love to see a spiritual successor to Super Metroid made by an indie company. But still would love to see a totally new 2d metroid by Nintendo with all new story bosses gameplay items world etc....But I really dont think any game will ever be better than super metroid even when playing it today it holds up amazingly well vs playing the 3d metroids which already look dated.

What about Warlock? It's not a perfect game but its still a lot of fun once you get used to the stiff controls, plus it fits the Halloween theme with its gothic and creepy atmosphere.
Also, I might argue Spawn would also be a great Halloween game as well with its haunting soundtrack and hellish story

Just a small clarification, you don't need to complete all 96 exits in Super Mario World to get the alternate world look, you just need to complete the Special World. Get to the world from the exit pipe of Special and you get the new-look world. Get back to Special and leave through the entrance pipe and you get back to the normal-looking world.

Darkstalkers that was the best fighting game second to street fighter. New Characters as a bonus like a nightmare man or player customizations.

Clock tower is amazing. I played it years ago when i bought a psp to use as a portable emulation console. I was alone in my room. Lying in my bed. Lights off. I remember paying it and having goosebumps. I played until it was too scary for me and turn the lights on. I never thought i would get that experience from a 16bit game. I got scared, startled, surprised playing Resident Evil on playstation 1 but Clock tower is a different experience. But you have to approach it as like reading a book and put your inagination as playing it.

While I know this isn't exactly an SNES game, the "Earthbound Halloween Hack" by Toby Fox is a classic choice for a spooky short play though, and possibly the Threed level of the original "Earthbound" would be great, considering it has all the stuff you need (zombies, pumpkins, creepy dolls, etc.). Great Video as always, and can't wait to try "Clock Tower" with my buds this halloween.

Very true. I highly doubt in our lifetimes we will ever see a game even come close to Super Metroid. I still remember playing it for the first time & literally getting goosebumps throughout the game bc it was so amazing. Games today just dont compare to the games on the Super NES which held the greatest games ever created but this is in part due to games going 3d. A good example is AM2R the fan made one vs the nintendo one. The fan made one is way better but mostly bc it has the super metroid feel vs the nintendo one due to the graphics.

For many channels, lists really are just pandering... however, many of them are not backed with good commentary or any substance. Yours, on the other hand, are. That's why we like your lists.

I think Mortal Kombat 2 deserves to be on the list too. It had a great atmosphere and ambience that would make it a great Halloween game, particularly the Living Forest.

The Addams Family and its sequel Pugsley's Treasure Hunt are my favourite SNES Halloween-y games. My first console was an old second-hand SNES and I remember playing The Addams Family when I was 7 around this time of year. The reason I know that is that I remember seeing Cher performing Believe on Top of the Pops when I was playing it!
Edit: Holy shit it was this exact performance, the day before Halloween ruclips.net/video/wbOlTw71huM/видео.html

I was just gonna recommend Addams family. Good game, even though it was published by Ocean.

I think Super Metroid was a great choice! Metroid clearly owes a lot to Ridley Scott's Alien, and that movie is a horror classic. Like Alien, Metroid's world is atmospheric, hostile, and... alien, I guess.

I'm late to the party but a sort of cute, good looking, great sounding and quite fun game with a ghostly Halloween vibe is Ghost Sweeper Mikami :) It's a platformer that feels a tiny bit like castlevania, even allows you to swing up platforms with your weapon. Very ghostly as you might think!

Wow. I never noticed that about Super Mario World. It was quite epic to finish it the first time as a 6 to 7-year-old so I couldn't even conceive going through it completely a second time at the time.
