Matthew Ronay: The Science of the Dogon

- Artist Matthew Ronay discusses his realizations about abstraction after being introduced to a book, The Science of the Dogon, which observes the Dogon tribe from Mali who have no written language but express their understanding of science through sculpture.

Ronay’s presentation will chart the realization that nature is fundamental to his work, describing how the artist envisions his inspirations as a zig-zagging thread of artists and scientists from the 18th century to the present whose works reflect natural phenomena consciously or unconsciously. Ronay also proposes the possibility that inherited memories of the genesis and evolution of life recapitulate themselves in abstract works of sculpture and painting.
Matthew Ronay Biography
Matthew Ronay (B. 1976, Louisville, Kentucky) lives and works in New York. Ronay studied at the Maryland Institute College of Art before earning his Masters in Fine Arts from Yale University in 2000. In 2016 his work was the subject of solo-presentations at the Blaffer Art Museum, Houston, Texas and the Pérez Art Museum, Miami, Florida, with a fully-illustrated exhibition catalogue published on the occasion. The artist has exhibited extensively at major institutions worldwide including: Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, Bentonville, Arkansaw (2018); Kunsthalle Lingen, Germany (2014); University of Louisville, Kentucky (2013); Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft, Louisville (2013); Sculpture Center, New York (2012); Artspace, San Antonio (2010); Astrup Fearnley Museum for Modern Art, Oslo (2008); ARoS Kunstmuseum, Arhus, Denmark 92008); Parasol Unit Foundation for Contemporary Art, London (2006); Serpentine Gallery, London (2005) and Center for Curatorial Studies, Bard College, Ananndale-on-Huson, New York (2005). Ronay participated in the 2013 Lyon Biennale, curated by Gunnar Kvaran, and the 2004 Whitney Biennale.

The reason the Dogon knew all of this stuff is because over centuries, they practiced initiation rites which made them clairvoyant, i.e. being able to see into the spiritual world and understand the spiritual laws (that we cannot measure) governing outcomes on the physical level (that we can measure). As So Above is So Below, as states Hermes Trismegistus (known as Thoth in Egypt), the inner cosmos in man is a mini version of the outer cosmos. They used their clairvoyance to see the correlation of what was in the body with what was out there in the cosmos. Therefore, they did not need to discover Sirius B with a telescope or UFO, they travelled there using their clairvoyance. What might suprise you, is that all cultures in the world possessed clairvoyance but over the last millennia, this ability disappeared gradually as was the will of the divine plan. As we lost it, we became more engrossed with matter and had to free ourselves with our gaze to the gods, so as to develop FREE WILL and clear thinking. The priests of the Dogon who would claim still to be clairvoyant, maybe one of the last few people who trained their spiritual 'organs' to gaze into the spiritual world. If you really wish to understand how this all works and even if you would want to develop yourself spiritually, read the books by Rudolf Steiner, ie:
- The philosophy of freedom
- Knowledge of the Higher World and its Attainment
- Occult Science
- Theosophy
Please do not make the mistake of thinking Steiner is 'just one of the other occultists of the turn of the 19/20th century like Blavatsky or Edward Cayce. Steiner was/is the only person in the world ever to have investigated the science behind spirituality and give you the tools to thoroughly understand it, understand all mysteries of life and how to develop yourself spiritually. Reading his books is in itself the biggest learning curve. They are not easy to read: by conscious effort of thinking about his written words, imagining and feeling what these words evoke in you, you are doing the work.

I'll add two things I agree but I disagree with the method of attainment. During these higher states the body is extreme sensitive to all stimuli.
And as they wait for a certain time as when the star is at a certain point I think the information is somehow conveyed via the photons of the system else timing wouldn't matter and ancients timing stars happens all the time.
I can also add writing is a lower form than vocal so most in higher states wouldn't do it as even common adhd people try to avoid. (Just extra)

The Dogon's history has of a set of symbols that they say were 'left' to them, as well as an origination from another star... This also ties in with the 'Collective Unconscious' archetypal forms as well as how our unconscious minds speak the language of symbol.

really hope Matthew Ronay didn't completely chicken-out and that he *honored* the book he's referencing [& it's author] by telling the truth about what he, himself read. that vs. ignoring the proven FACTS about the Dogon's knowledge of astronomy [and scientific understandings]..meaning, I really hope that he was honest in the remainder of his presentation - which I've saved the link to watch later, thank you.
because in this clip he goes to that he thinks the information is stored within us, which I do believe that is true. HOWEVER, what is ALSO true and should NOT be ignored by those who *value* the truth and esp,, in this case, re: the book he references here:
the Dogon knew of Sirius B and many details about the astronomy of it & the science of genetics, etc., *long* before our 'modern day' astronomers knew of the existence the brown dwarf star, Sirius B., [which racists love to ignore, even after reading the documented information and because who else would be so much in denial? and a *true skeptic* is NOT a naysayer. btw].
and this has been proven, their knowledge of Sirius B, existing well before it was much later 'discovered' by trained astronomers..and, additionally, the Dogon were also taught about a 3rd star that had not yet been discovered.
all of this is thanks to French researchers, who recorded their interactions with the people, the intelligent *human beings* of the Dogon tribe, beginning *in the 1930's* and for over an apprx. *30 year period:*
*English speakers/readers:* please, do take the time and see the Laird Scranton books [there are at least 3 of them] & interviews [busy? then if your hearing is ok, you can listen while walking or driving or otherwise commuting/traveling] about the Dogon re: what he learned about what they have known about these sun-stars for a *very* long time.
and hoping the admin for this official channel is not in the habit of deleting comments that express reasonable concerns..which are based on what far too many others - who either chose to *not* do the proper research or who did do it - but are in denial. either way, *both* categories of those who say the Dogon were taught the relevant *sciences, plural,* much later than the record already proves, they've tried to promote falsehoods about where and how *they* claim the Dogon learned the information.
This is the thing tribal societies pass on knowledge through oral traditions and they remember who they are and where they come from. Because the west has done everything to suppress and control this knowledge we are only just catching up and trying to connect the dots.

That is somewhat true but I wouldnt classify it as the "The West". I know its populair to blame everything on the Europeans; but one really needs to separate the elite from the "plebs". Not to mention Europes ancient history itself also has been censored and destroyed by the exact same powers, whome throughout history treated their commoner subjects just as barbaric as they did outside the European continent.
To my own opinion I think the pre flood and acient world were more connected with each other through an advanged global culture. There simply are to many simularites between the various ancient civilizations around the globe. Which people today love (and to my opinion wongly) claim as separate heritages based on our modern concepts of "nation states" if you know what I mean. Something I also find striking is all these magnificent civilizations spoke of; and (desparately) longed back to the first time or as the ancient Egyptians called it "Zep Tepi" Which of course goes by various different name but they alo describe the same thing.
