      Hi Prasenjit Sahoo
      β-Galactosidase cleaves X-gal into galactose and 5-bromo-4-chloro-3-hydroxyindole; this second compound is then oxidized into 5,5′-dibromo-4,4′-dichloro-indigo. As its name suggests, this final product is blue in color.
