    I am currently trying this out. I have ripped it out so many times, but have perservered (not sure if i spelt that right) with it. The only thing that I have left out is the slip stitch row as I have found that it makes my centre granny really tight and bent out of shape. Once I have finished with it, I will try and up load it here to show my my effort.

    I love this pattern!! I've tried it with 3 colors.. 2 rows each and I get caught on what to do with the corner.. so.. now I'm going to try using same # of colors as you this way I can better see what to do when I pause video. I watched to end and to answer your question I love your video, yes sometimes out of view but I've tried to make videos I know how hard it can be. You had me when you slipped with 'sh*' haha I laughed. I enjoy 'real people ' not those who sound like they are reading out of a book. New subscriber here . +dianne everett Thank you Di! I have to admit I had no idea how much I myself would like this design when I started. It was just a challenge I wanted to try. I an so glad I did!! ;-) As for your question about the hook, the hook says: I /9 - 5.50mm But you could use anything from a 'G' to a 'K' if you wanted. I make most of my stuff with an "H" or an "I" because it suits me. If you like more open and loose throws, then you might want to try a "J" or "K". If you wanted to make 4 of these and join them to make a bed cover, you might want to try a "G" to achieve the sizing you want. Mix it up and have fun! That is what it is all about!

    After you get the first granny square done, I'm confused as to what stitch you start your corner with, I can't tell because you don't hold it where it can be seen and the yarn is too dark. I want to make this blanket, this is not my first time crocheting, I have been doing it for years. First time making this blanket though, not the first time I've done granny squares. Please help. Thanks!

    • @craftychrystal7913
      @craftychrystal7913  6 лет назад

      You do a slip stitch row around each completed square level. Do the slip stitch row in back loop of the edge. Do not forget to make a chain one in the middle of the two center groups. This will be the stitch you do your first corner groups in. I really want to do another take on this pattern. I have to get the yarn for it and have to find enough breath to narrate it. IF you do not want it to be 2 sided, you can eliminate the slip stitch row and just make a chain one space between the two center groups. If you use only the back loop of the chain one, it helps the continuity of the line in front. All new rows would be added using only the back loop and the one below it. This will make the square stand out but only on one side. Hope this helps.

    Great design, but I'm not sure that I completely understand how to do it. Do you slip stitch around every square once you complete it or just the 2nd starting the 3rd? I think you should have went over adding the 2nd square, not just jumped to the 3rd from the 1st in the video. I appreciate that you took the time to make a video and show us your beautiful design, but I'm disappointed that I'm not 100% I could do it and I wouldn't want to start without know I could finish it. Again, thank you for sharing your work! It's beautiful! Keep crocheting and designing!

    • @craftychrystal7913
      @craftychrystal7913  8 лет назад

      +grt924 I am so sorry I confused you! I did mention that you do every last round the same, and yes you do use the slip stitch. That gives you the platform to make your next level as a reversible throw. Every square level added will be worked the same. And depending on how many rows of granny stitches you used the results will vary. Just make sure you end up with an even number of granny clusters in your outside row! Here is what I told Susan above about how to figure each level of slip stitches....
      " If you do it the same size as I, then you will have 10 granny clusters
      on each side, (at your first layer), plus one of the 3 chain at corners. With no stitch between clusters, that gives you 33 over the clusters with 2 on each end, or 35 on each full side. You will use the corner stitch of the 3 chain only once per 2 sides. So if you counted from the sides in, (not counting the corner) you would have 17 stitches and one in the middle to make your center connection on. On the next level, you count it the same way... 3 for each cluster plus 2 for the sides of the corner chains. It will be an odd number and the center will be the place to start your center corner clusters. "
      So...
      Start in the center and follow the directions about how to add each row (starting around 33 min) it is important to skip just one stitch between used ones, and you need to bridge the outside corners with a cluster on each side. You will do just fine! Have confidence in your self and the fact that crochet is so forgiving that you can fudge anything you need to and no one will know! LOL! Just enjoy the trip!

      I keep getting that question and I don't really know the answer completely. I know the dark blue was Royal blue or Royalty depending on the brand. The pink was pretty N pink I think. Try going to www.joann.com/ and check out the Red Heart super saver colors. You will find all the colors I used there. The varigated was, I'm pretty sure, Plum pudding but you might like Candy Print better. The other 2 blues were Turquoise or Turqua, and Delft Blue

    Hi, my name is Eva, I really like this granny square pattern. However, I am not understanding when you make the triangle. Your video hide that part you are going into. On the granny square are you putting three slip stitch on top of the three double on the side. I really want to make this however, it's hard to see what you're doing. I am very experience at making a granny square. I am a vision person but I am getting confuse on the part when you finish you last two rows of the first square, and start working the triangle side. I need to see where you're going into. Thank you for helping me I need to see you do it in order to get a clear understanding. Thanks, Eva

    • @craftychrystal7913
      @craftychrystal7913  7 лет назад

      Eva, before working the triangle side, make sure you add the slip stitch row... one slp st to each double and corner chain around, using the back loop of each stitch. (make the stitches over the chain st's looser.) On this slp st row, add a chain st in the middle of the side between the 5th and 6th set of three DC's. This will be the middle stitch that will hold the 3DC, chain 3, 3DC corner of the first row. The anchors for each end of the first row will be the middle of the 3DC group on each side of the Ch1 st. The anchor for the second row will be the first DC of the next set from the center, the anchor for the first row of the next color will be the third (from the center) stitch of that same second set, the nexte anchor will be the middle of the next set, and so on. Make sure you miss only one stitch. UIt helps if you stick a piece of yarn in each stitch you will be using before you start. You will see that you have a choice between using the first of the ch 3 corner stitches for the last anchor, (and chain 2 over the corner... recommended!), or skip 2 stitches that last time and anchor to the center of the corner with a slip stitch instead of a SC. Your last row of the fourth color in the second layer will be the first continuous row since the center square. I hope I understood your question well enough to explain it better for you. Sorry you are having trouble. Ask again if I didn't and I will try again.

    • @craftychrystal7913
      @craftychrystal7913  7 лет назад

      When you work the anchors, you have 2 choices. You can work both of the slip stitch loops ( this will give you a stand out front but the back won't have that ridge around the square that makes it 2 sided.) Or you can use the front loop of the slip stitches and catch a strand from the DC row between the front and back loop of the slip stitch. This makes the back loop of the slip stitch into the back ridge of the square. and helps to hide the back side of the anchors too.

      +Susan Hatcher Hi Susan! I am glad you like it! No I don't have a written pattern for it. What can I say... it is a granny square. The video goes into how to add a corner on the side with a couple of tips on what not to do so it looks okay from both sides and lots of ideas on how to end the last round. I like the colors too. Much brighter than my first one, which was several shades of blue. And I have a request from a relative for a variation with brown and gold that might be nice. I hope you enjoy making this. It is very satisfying as a finished project.
      PS: pay close attention to the SS row starting at 29 min, and you can read the answers to some of the question I have received. It might help. So sorry I don't have a written on this for you.

      Watching you do the slip stitches about the 33 min. mark. Would it be possible for you to count those? I'm afraid I will get confused on that and my stitch count won't come out correctly.

    • @craftychrystal7913

      +Susan Hatcher Susan, If you do it the same size as I, then you will have 10 granny clusters on each side, (at your first layer), plus one of the 3 chain at corners. @craftychrystal7913  3 года назад

      Please don't use this version. I really try to make it clearer in the updated version. As for your question.... An H or an I works great here. I used an I.... You can use a larger hook, but it is really hard to get bigger hooks in small places. If you go with a J or K, keep a smaller one handy when you get into the very edge of each layer. I tend to be a tight crocheter, so my size might not be your finished size, if you are a looser crocheter. Just go with the hook you are most comfortable with and see what happens! Make it yours, that is what crochet is all about.

    • @craftychrystal7913
      @craftychrystal7913  4 года назад

      Hon, I have no idea how you would do that. The style is based on a square. If you made a corner on each of the short sides and then a corner on the long sides, you would have a skewed or bent side on your second 'layer'. It would take some tweaking to get a straight side from the bent one to continue on. And it would give you a slant sided parallelogram for the third 'layer'. If you want to give it a try, please let us know how you did it and good luck!!!

      Your afghan is stunning it's the best video explaining and the prettiest of this style pattern. I noticed how rude these comments are lol I thought you had great explaining of how you do this and your plan to move on. I would just put ( Advanced pattern if you Dare ).They need to have experience. They don't understand because you were showing how to and what good planning is to achieve what your pretty afghan looks. :) I would love to see what your cooking for your next or patterns your doing now. :) I also enjoy hearing you talk about what the next plan to add your pattern rows. I spend all my day's alone so having a friend to hear as you do crocheting. Thank you , I have subscribed to get all your video's . I would normally crochet with a H hook but I noticed the stretch with the chain 3 or 2 so I went 1 :) I was noticing that you do a row a round of double all around before you do your new square set ups. I love this part so that's what I will do. :)

      Cindy Mitchell It is good to hear from you Cindy. I also spend my days alone and usually have only crochet thoughts running through my head to keep me company. You out there who watch and comment on my videos are my friends, and the only ones I talk to outside my mom (best friend and #1 fan) and she doesn't crochet or craft, so no "shop talk" LOL.

      I don't know what you mean by a row of double around... I do use only the clusters not straight doubles. Okay? And have yu seen the written instructions or the "Final" version of this that I did? Still getting too many complaints so i have made a new set-up and will be trying that out soon for the final 'final' version. LOL It was my crowning inspiration and is my biggest headache to get right for everyone. I am thinking of dropping the slip stitch row altogether and letting it be just a one sided throw. What do you think? I could always demonstrate both ways but just do it one way.

      Good morning! Here is the written pattern: chrystalkay.wordpress.com/2015/09/23/squared-granny-throw-written-pattern/
      Also, did you watch the other video I did on this?
      ruclips.net/video/xTy3m9-PzEY/видео.html I did a little better there, but still need that last video I will be starting.
      I turned 70 this year, and I would like to get it finished and out there before I turn 71! LOL. I just need to get a couple thing done before then.
      What are you planning to do with the loopy yarn? I used one skein on a pillow sized throw for the cats and the rest of it to make the owl.
      ( ruclips.net/video/-jVEg9-lEg0/видео.html ) I have 2 more skeins and 9 coming. Now i have too many loops going around in my head! Guess that makes me loopy too! Anyway have a great day. God Bless!

    Hi Chrystal. The loose ends are a whole lot yuck lol. This is really new type of granny scope for me . I sure thought I knew what all consisted of a granny square lol. I'm 59 and my mother taught me crocheting so it's been long time from learning and now here there a square cut in 1/2. lol. I'm a shelter person but this struck me a bit lol. I took a long break from crocheting an did Jewelry and sold it . I thought I better get back to my roots of yarn ha ha. I move here in 2004 after my mom passed she was way to young and tons of craft's left she was only 70 her bday is 9/25 I was living in California for 23 and then move here to Montana. (I was born and raised in Illinois then at 23 yr's California then after mom died I move here to Montana. Ah ya I turned in to a hermit now. I have chronic fibromyalgia. Sorry so long. I just bought a bunch of the loopy yarn.

    • @craftychrystal7913
      @craftychrystal7913  5 лет назад

      Isn't that loopy stuff a trip? I am having fun with it in between making plarn bags, a sleeping shawl for me for winter and a new set-up for another version of this throw. i have made some patches of different styles in the loopy and just posted the owl. Already have ideas for upgrades for that one. And I have ideas for three throws and a couple holiday hang-ups that will require better colors of the loops. Also figured out a way to make my own loopy yarn but the slow way.. by crocheting it. Still there are advantages, in that I can use any thickness yarn and can use two colors at a time and alternate loops with them. I have lymphedema and emphysema so don't get around much. But I do not have the pain issues you must be working with, I am so sorry for your condition!
      There is a new loopy yarn sold exclusively by Michaels. It isn't great on the colors,but it is great on the price/yardage ratio, and buying on line gives you a 40% discount right now. The down side is that you have to get 3 skeins of each color, the upside is that with the discount, you get 3 skeins of 16.5 yards for $10.77. That is just unreal!
      Yes, I am talking too long too, guess we are a peach of a pair!God Bless!

      There are a couple ways to do that..... add more outside corners the same way you did the last one. .. use larger hook and larger yarn, Add an outside to it.... make more the same size and connect them. some people have made them for a queen or king sized bed so it is possible, and they have used all three methods. (Not at the same time! LOL) Hope this helps.

    You asked for comments, so here goes....
    When you do a video, you really should know exactly what you are doing and what people doing it with you need to do. You say skip one, but that you skipped 2 and skipping 2 worked better for you...Well, I skipped one and my triangles were not big enough.
    Other places in the video, you contradict yourself, telling me to do one thing and then 2 minutes later you say you did something else.
    My husband is currently counting out stitches to see what needs to actually be done. Your video DOES give a very good level of instructions on HOW to make the triangles, just not about how the stitches are counted.
    I laughed reading the comments below. The ones who don't know the triangles, didn't watch the whole video. The ones who say the video is clear either did not watch it, or they did not try to make it with you. You might want to try the video again, maybe write up a script so you don't spend 10 minutes rambling and forget what you are talking about...I think that is where the problem lies, you ramble and forget. Your rambling causes people to tune out, so they figure you never talk about the triangles...You need to do something about the video, it is not accurate and you are too windy.

      +Terri Thompson Thank you Terry!!!! I have 2 videos about this pattern. In the first one i used 2 stitches between each placement and perhaps because I am such a tight crocheter, it didn't work out as I wanted. In the second I did many many re-dos and because i just can't seem to keep my hands where they can be seen. I didn't catch the rest of my boo boos before i published the video. Like the # of stitches between and where I said chain one and slip stitch and then did a single crochet. I have been trying to improve since then and appreciate all the feed back I can get.
      I have added a written version and placed the link in the description area, to help smooth out the discrepancies. And yes, i should break down and do a re-make as soon as I get some more yarn to do it with. I have learned to do a bunch of small videos and put them together so i can delete them and re-do before moving on. Not good for my morale when I have to frog out a whole corner because i made a mistake way back at the first row of it LOL. As for the talking, it is part of me and i don't think i can do it without the 'aimless talking'. As for using a script. I have enough problems trying to watch my hands and the monitor without trying to read a script too. Sigh... I love doing this and I really want to get good at it, so i will keep plugging away at it until I am good! Comments like yours helps me. So thank you again!

      +Terri Thompson Final video on this pattern is up. i really tried to address all the critiques. Of course I have gotten ones like... why don't you show us more of the granny square, . followed by you spend too much time on the inside square. .... so i won't please everyone. The counting will vary depending on what kind of crocheter you are. I am a tight left hander and had a bowl effect starting when I tried 2 spaces, one worked just fine for me. My sister is a medium right hander and both worked for her. The count just turned out right for a close touching outside square on the second round. If you need 2 spaces then you will have your second square looking more like my third square, with the the second border not touching the tips. It doesn't really make a difference. The visual effect of the squared diamond will be just as great. The new video goes into greater detail on the slip stitch row, the starting sides and the tips of the inner squares as you get to them. I really hope you like the new video better!

    Nice pattern, but the instructions are not that great, you spend a lot of time with the basic square and no time with the triangles on the outside, Too much talking not enough valuable information. We all know what even and odd mean, you don't actually need to count. At this point, I have zero idea how the triangles are done though you keep going on and on about even and odds

    • @craftychrystal7913
      @craftychrystal7913  8 лет назад

      +Trish Vidal Trish, I am sorry that I didn't help you with the video. I really do try. The slip stitches at about 29 min are very important as they set the foundation for the sides. As is the over long attention paid to ending the SS row with the right number of stitches. (no one wants to end up with the wrong number of clusters at the end of a side!) And starting at 33 min. I show how to connect each front facing and rear facing row. The last stitch on each side should have a cluster connection in it. The corner stitch will be under a bridge of 1 or 2 chain sts between the 2 sides. You will always be on a back facing row when you end a side. The triangles will be different according to how many rows you use in the basic square. 6, 8, 10, 12? But the basic important points of the SS row and how to attach the front and rear facing rows is the same no matter what the size. I hope this helps you a little more in understanding this pattern. And again I am sorry the video fell short of what you needed.

      +Trish Vidal, unfortunately, I have to agree with you. Once she begins the triangles, her instructions are extremely confusing and they don't make sense. I can see she's connecting at the end of the first set, but she doesn't say she's connecting. And the majority of the time either her hands are in the way, the worked is turned in such a way that you can't see where she's inserting her hook, or her hands and the work are completely out of the shot. Beautiful afghan but this video is absolutely no help.
