FighterZ is so godly that the characters' movements and attacks are literally lifted from the source material. All of it. The books, the show, the movies, other games even. How they managed to take those things and seamlessly map them onto the incredibly tight fighting mechanics in the game is mind-blowing. All the characters feel accessible yet unique in the way you make them most effective, the characters are dynamic with each other in teams, the roster (while not as massive as past games) is beefy and even has a well received original character with a new story that actually fits in the continuity of the series. Just a rock solid fighting game and a almost touching tribute to the Dragon Ball series as a whole. Looking forward to a sequel if they go that route, and I hope they do.
DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 2 will always hold the #1 spot in my heart. I played that religiously when I was younger. My friend got the game when we were young and we played it the whole time I spent over at his place... Days... We never stopped whilst I was over. I love that game.

I have a funny story about Dragon Ball GT Final Bout from way back. Years ago when I was 10 years old, my dad had taken me out shopping with him and we went to this 1 store I wish I could remember the name of. The store had video games & accessories but, I don't think it was specifically a video game store like GameStop. Anyway at some point I ended up glancing over at a shelf that had some PS1 video games both new and used, me being the huge Mortal Kombat fan I've always been, I noticed a used copy of MK Special Forces. What was right next to it? DBGT Final Bout, also used copy. I hadn't seen any commercials for either of them so I had no idea they existed until I saw them that day. *Thankfully* I ended up not getting either one of them. I'm also really into Dragonball but I didn't know anything about GT at the time and judging by the cover of Special Forces, I assumed the game would be mainly about Jax who I didn't care for back then. I didn't end up not getting either one because I was denied them, I just didn't want them. Looking back now, it's funny how 2 of the worst games in both franchises were just sitting right next to each other.
You gotta play more man lol. Budokai 1 and 3 are too classic to skip. Also there's a horrible Gameboy advance game with a crazy name. Legacy of Goku 2, Buus Fury, Fusions, Attack of the Saiyans, and Advance Adventure are all worth playing as well.
Tenkaichi 2 is a huge improvement over the first one and a fine game in it's own right, but if you like it, you should really check out Tenkaichi 3. The controls are improved even further (you can actually move during a dash now), the movesets are greatly expanded (Raditz has actual attacks instead of the generic stock moves he had in 2), and the roster and stage selection are pumped up (including a bunch of Dragon Ball representation, more movies, and some cool stuff from GT). It's basically a big, Dragonball themed toybox. I've heard people say that the story mode isn't as good, but I prefer the streamlined approach 3 had, dialogue and character swapping happening mid battle instead of every single minor interaction in the series being dragged out to a full fight that requires it's own set of loading screens like in 2.
My two favorite Dragon Ball Z games even after going through Kakarot are the Raging Blast games. Going through the story is okay but, the one thing I got a lot of mileage out of was the simulation feature. I would do several tournaments and the winner would always go on to fight Cell.

Anyone else played the DBZ flash game that was on Cartoon Network's website and the battle theme was an instrumental version of the thong song by Sisqo? That was the only Dragon Ball game I knew of for years until Legendary Super Warriors and Budokai came out lol
The problem with Devolution is that most fights last about 20 seconds. You literally just have to hit the enemy with 2 full power ki blasts. Which they'll either dodge, or try to beam struggle which is very easy to win. Its fun, but every fight feels exactly the same so after about 4 or 5 you get pretty bored. And there are a lot of fights..
I'd recommend Advanced Adventure and the Legacy of Goku series on GBA, and think you'd get a few laughs out of Taiketsu too. That last one is basically a bad Mortal Kombat DBZ clone.

In dragon Ball GT final bout, there were cheat codes you could use at the start screen to unlock 5 or 6 more characters than you mentioned. When I was younger I played it and it was ok but was like shin Budokai but much slower.
They just took the already made DBZ Shin Budokai for PSP and changed the character models to look like the actors from that god awful movie just so they could continue to profit from it. It plays exactly like a Budokai game because it basically is one.
I'm genuinely surprised you havent play Budokia Tenkaichi 3 seeing as you played 2. definitely my favorite DBZ game mainly just for the insane roster. also check out a game called Dragon Ball Advance Adventure for the GBA it's a pretty simple 2D side scrolling beat em up but it's great fun
For me Final Bout feels like the end of the world. It came out 1 year after the end of the original manga series. DBGT still not came to my country yet. But it’s almost end in Japan. So this is the end of the original Dragon Ball era in my memory. But thank to the popularity in the US, somehow the Dragon Ball fever came back and resparked the popularity around the world. 1996 is the beginning of you US fan, for me, I felt like it’s the end of the world.
I remember playing budikai tenkaichi 2 on the ps2 when I was little. Ah, the wonders of childhood. I'm surprised a lot of others played these games too.
Pretty sure the sprites from that first 2d fighting game were later used in the MUGEN engine to make much better fighting game characters. Just goes to show that fans can usually make better content than official companies.
There was a game store in my town that used to sell Japanese imports and they had several Dragonball games. My best friend and I were able to save up our money, bought Final Bout and a boot up disk for the PlayStation. We spent about $60-70 on it and it sucked!
0:13 I guess it's possible, but chances are that it was because Dragon Ball didn't take off on the US till Z aired. Which, after a quick search, was in 1996, just in time to decide to localize Final Bout. Latin America almost got Super Butouden 2, but it never happened.
But GT was neither unpopular in Japan outside of just not having a manga nor was it cancelled. Relatively speaking, it did really well there which is probably why Final Bout came to the West.
You did not mention Dragonball Advanced Adventure, it was a beat'em up based on the original kid Goku saga. It was my favorite GBA game, great graphics and gameplay, a true hiddem gem!

Holly duck, the gameplay of Dragon Ball Evolution is the gameplay of Dragon Ball Budokai 3 ?!
to be more precise, it plays exactly like shin budokai on the psp. base goku and evolution goku even have the same combos and ki attacks
It was made in the same studio
They just took the already made DBZ Shin Budokai for PSP and changed the character models to look like the actors from that god awful movie just so they could continue to profit from it. It plays exactly like a Budokai game because it basically is one.
Awesome video great job 👍
I swear, when I see some of the cutscenes for FighterZ, something in my head makes me think that it's taken right from the show
Honestly if you snuck in AVGN saying "You're a poopyhead" on Final Bout's character select screen, I wouldn't have known the difference
Very nice list you have good taste dude
For me Final Bout feels like the end of the world. It came out 1 year after the end of the original manga series. DBGT still not came to my country yet. But it’s almost end in Japan. So this is the end of the original Dragon Ball era in my memory. But thank to the popularity in the US, somehow the Dragon Ball fever came back and resparked the popularity around the world. 1996 is the beginning of you US fan, for me, I felt like it’s the end of the world.
11:55 if it's Fighters, then what the hell is with that big honkin' *_Z?_*
It's FighterZ, dammit!
I remember playing budikai tenkaichi 2 on the ps2 when I was little. Ah, the wonders of childhood. I'm surprised a lot of others played these games too.
In all of the DBZ games he did not talk about the Xenoverse games at all surprisingly
1:33 - He isn't. He's in Super Dragon Ball Heroes
I'm assuming you never played the kinect since you didn't have that kinect dragon ball game
Pretty sure the sprites from that first 2d fighting game were later used in the MUGEN engine to make much better fighting game characters. Just goes to show that fans can usually make better content than official companies.
the mugen community also made porn games out of the engine so they aren't that good of a group
@arbereshe wrong, the concept of M.u.g.e.n is cool, but a lot of the execution is garbage.
There was a game store in my town that used to sell Japanese imports and they had several Dragonball games. My best friend and I were able to save up our money, bought Final Bout and a boot up disk for the PlayStation. We spent about $60-70 on it and it sucked!
Glad to see you've recovered from getting skewered across the cosmos
“They gave goku cheap a.i.”
Is this super sonic warriors?
😂😂😂
Badukai Tenkaichi 3 is GREAT
after a wile I stood 1 hour and a half putting in codes to unlock the rest of the characters to play with my friends uwu
What about Boudki 3?
Talk about dbz legends on ps1, I had lots of fun with that one.
Evolution’s gameplay is the same as the Budokai series.. which was fun af..
Budokai Tenkaichi 3 specifically on the Wii is in my top 5 favorite Wii games of all time. One of the few that actually did motion controls right
0:13 I guess it's possible, but chances are that it was because Dragon Ball didn't take off on the US till Z aired.
There hasn't been a bad Dragonball game since?
Have you heard of Battle of Z and Ultimate Tenkaichi?
We still to this day, even with dbz kakarot, have not gotten a suitable replacement for ultimate tenkaichi...
it is still the closest thing to open world dbz with custom chars that we have... srry to say, its not as bad as it looks, but people still want a better game...
Stealthblazer Games bro battle of z wasn’t even that bad i was just an underrated game
@@earthishot3642 yikes
Stealthblazer Games i played dragon ball battle of z it had a trash story it’s not as bad as xenoverse 1 the story on xenoverse 1 had the worst story and were not gona be talking about the other trash game that was so underrated that nobody played it
Stealthblazer Games it was so trash I couldn’t even say it’s name
I had Dragon Ball GT: Final Bout. I couldn't even play a single match. The game always crashed and never worked lol. I wanted to play it so badly because I thought it was gonna be awesome, but seems like I was wrong lol.
Oh wow.. I've never heard of the Dragonball Evolution game. But I have played enough of Shin Budokai 2 on PSP to know that this is a simple reskin of THAT game.
the worst dbz game i ever played was taiketsu for the gameboy advance.
dragonball evolution is just budakai 1 through infinite world's engine. lol
@Most Deadest Pool of em All. yeah super sonic warriors might be my favorite game on the gameboy advance besides pokemon. too bad part 2 wasn't as good.
@@EWOODJ same difference, same engine. lol
@@abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz4839 lol it really was man. they advertised it as the first game with broly though and i had to get it. i was so disappointed. lol
yea I owned that game too and I just threw opponents to get through the fights
@@daytonchris8351 I think that's why 95% of the people who got this game, got it because of Broly. If Broly wasn't advertised I would've turned the other way because that game looked and played terrible
I'm fuckin dead. "Well, just, look" WHY THE FUCK IS YAJIROBE SO TALL
My review of every Dragon Ball game I have played
Dragon Ball Budakai Tenkaiechi 3(I think I am spelling that right):I love the gameplay but hate the art style. You know I love this game is it actually worth it probably not but I have a lot of nostalgia. It is fun to play with friends but IDK I haven’t played in a long time I might try it again.
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2:I mean I can’t get into the flying custom characters and stuff but it is really fun but casually not seriously I love watching people play it professionally and looks cool.
Dragon Ball FighterZ:My favorite fighting game of all time the characters are polished, balanced and always changing you can play with some of the worst characters like Videl and still have fun.The art is great and oh man the cutscenes are 😙👌
Fun fact, the people who made the 2nd game listed, Banpresto, also made Thomas the Tank Engine on PS1.
Did you ever play Dragon Ball Z: Attack of the Saiyans for the DS? It's really good
The Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi games are my favorite out of the ones I've played. The gameplay is amazing and the first game in particular has my favorite soundtrack out of any fighting game I've played. Though I have played Dragon Ball FighterZ a tiny bit, I still like the Tenkaichi games more (but I absolutely agree that it deserves all the praise).
A best dbz list with no budakai 3 ??? Have you played it?
