  • It was only a matter of time before Holmes On Homes tackled a cottage renovation- in the back woods of Ontario- in the middle of a lake- on an island!
    The seclusion of being on an island can be wonderful- until you need outside assistance. The cottage owner, Anne, a retired widow needed some renovations and found no one wanted the hassle of working around the big water obstacle. The only contractor she could find, spent more time fishing than working, or so it seemed.
    There are many items to address- faulty deck railings, the new bathroom reno, and repairing plumbing that is unique to a three season cottage.
    Mike and the team will have to work fast. The maple trees on the island are in full fall colors when they arrive, and frost comes early in northern Ontario. This episode promises to be full of challenges as the crew gets a taste of cottage life- and island living.

    Watching a crew who are Masters of their craft design and build a project is very entertaining earns my respect. To watch them go above and beyond because of their respect and compassion for the people who live there is inspiring!

    It's definitely one of my favorite episodes from the original series. Nice seeing Mike working on a project instead of only talking. Small bathroom, but they put top grade products in it. I hope Ann's family still has this vacation cottage. (this was filmed at least 15 years ago). it's a expensive property because of the beautiful location.

I really enjoy watching the videos and yes I learn something along the way, that is there are still people who care about what they do, I have a deep respect for people who really care about the job they do, I really appreciate seeing that you make it right.

    Great job, guys! Thumbs up to you all!
    Many things attract mosquitoes, but not as much by any type of light. CO2, body odour, and warmth are the main attractions for mosquitoes.
    Mosquitoes can see LED lights, but that light is not an extra attraction. The old incandescent lights did attract mosquitoes because they radiated a lot of heat. LED light radiates almost no heat.

    The guy that did the crapy work should have to explain himself, then spend some time on Mike's crew to learn the right way.

    Holy SMOKES, this brings me back about 25 years when my brother and I worked on an island off of Portland, Maine. With about 1,000 year-round residents, you *would - not - BELIEVE* the "creative" things people (including contractors and homeowners) would do just to get by without the proper tools, materials and KNOWLEDGE - sometimes sad, sometimes reprehensible, often the stuff of a builder's worst nightmares. As prepared as you might think you are, sometimes you run out of necessities and wind up having to 'shift gears' to keep the crew productive. We even had an account with a main-land currier who'd go to a local lumber yard to pick something up an get it on the next ferry. (In the long run, that experience just made us that much better, and prepared, builders for main-land projects...)

    Mike you didnt have to rip apart the entire bathroom just give her what she wanted which is a safety bar to hold on to in the shower and the water tank was in the right spot and didnt need to be moved its a cottage not a actual house or at least give her a tankless hot water system also with a cottage and every other bathroom you have to cut through floor joysts every contractor in the usa does that

    • @urzaserra256
      @urzaserra256 2 месяца назад +3

      The bathroom looked really cramped and hard to get around for someone with physical issues like she had, the leaks meant it would of turned into a moldy gooey mess rather quickly. This show is from 15-20 years ago tankless water heaters weren't well known. And doing maintenance or repairs on that water heater would be annoying to do. I wouldnt want a water heater in an unconditioned place in Canada where freezing is a certainty inside the house she could drain it for the winter herself, stuck underneath probably not. As for cutting joists there are limit on where and how big you can make holes in them. And even if you have to cut a big hole there are way to reinforce around it that wasnt done.
