Hi Simon, thanks for putting this together. I used to do daily 50mile round trip commute on my bike pre-pandemic, winter was a tough one. I would be really intrested in what you bring with you for an event like this? Presumably this is a smartish event. Do you pack a suit onto the bike, i presume you would be going for a shower after this? etc. I wish i had filmed my commutes now like this. Much more compelling that i would have imagined, and sitting here now i would have liked to have looked back on it.
We tend to go for smart casual (IT company!), which made things a bit simpler - no suit required! Because it was spring, and the forecast was good, I was able to get away with just rolling up a light cotton shirt, light trousers and smart slip-on shoes. Obviously, I needed toiletries (though even this was reduced by the fact that we were staying at a hotel) and a change of underwear, but the whole lot weighed relatively little. When I was teaching, I was lucky enough to have the use of a hygiene room provided for children with special needs - obviously, I was there much earlier than the pupils, so it was free. i could have a shower and change in comfort. as you say, in the winter, that's really needed. A lot depends on circumstances when it comes to practical cycle commuting, and if people are to make "good" choices they need support. the only place I've ever had a bike stolen was from a shed at school...
Thats a crazy commute 😮 fair play 💪
Ha, ha! Thanks. Not sure I'd fancy doing daily... 😉
Nice commute! And I've stayed a couple of nights at the 'Manor'!!
It's a lovely venue with great staff, isn't it? I presume you've been mugged by the peacocks? 😂
