Just found your channel, I am and "older man outdoors", and had heard on other you tube channels about how great the mountain house was. I tried it on a backpack trip to Wyoming with my sons this summer and was not impressed. Like you and your wife mentioned, pretty bland. Have not tried the Peak Refuel biscuits and gravy, but I think their dinners in general are better than Mountain House.

I've tried a few of the Peak Refuel and they've all been pretty good.
