    Love this video. When I got to x rank I was definitely not prepared, and lost a ton. I decided to take a month off, I played a bunch of other games(Mario kart, rocket league, Zelda) and also focused on mental health for a while. When I came back the meta had completely flipped and it was super fun training my brain to play a new way. Now I’m steadily climbing x rank and my goal is to be top 500! Thanks for the vid chase :)

    One thing I do that wasn't mentioned in this video is switching game modes. And I don't mean just hopping from TC to RM, but I play Salmon Run. There are days where I just really, really want to play Splatoon (there isn't really another shooter quite like it), but mentally I know I can't handle a bad game. On those days, I just dedicate my time to relaxing and playing Salmon Run to fill that itch. It's not for everyone (some people find it even more stressful than regular play), but I hover between Egg VP 200-300 and find it challenging, but not too stressful. It engages my mind enough like as if it were a match, but with a more positive environment (a booyah after a round, squidbagging after a successful run, etc). I also find it easier to manage my rank points there for some reason, at least compared to Anarchy, so I don't even stress even if we lose on W1/W2. Again, not for everyone though, but I love me some good Salmon Run.

    For me, the worst is when I lose games where feel like I absolutely crushed it. Tons of splats, pushed the objective like I was supposed to, but still somehow lost, either due to bad teammates, or due to stupidly good opponents. When this happens multiple times in a row, it feels downright awful, especially in x-rank, where having a lower ELO means that you straight up stop getting matches anymore. I'm basically soft banned from playing X-rank clam blitz. My rating is too low because my first 5 matches were all against teams that steam rolled us and all I get now is "not enough players."

    Another thing I’d add is, watch your replays, especially matches where you lost by narrow margins. Often it’s much more obvious what you’re doing wrong when you’re watching your gameplay after the fact and your brain isn’t focused on the mechanics. And looking at it from the perspective of who splatted you will make you go “oh, I was making myself super vulnerable using that tactic or route.”

    Having a "tilt weapon" that you don't necessarily expect to master is great way to implement some of the advice here! IE, when I am getting burned out with my main (splatlings) I'll just go and have fun with the Tri-Stringer for a little while. Or the Jr., whose mechanics are quite opposite of a splatling.

Yesterday I got record high x rank power of 2130 but today it dropped to 1944 after a massive lost streak… I will definitely take your advice chase but I also realized that the map rotation that I was playing both maps I had a 40-42% win rate by checking splatnet. I highly recommend everyone checking their win rate on the current map rotations if you happen to be on a losing streak 😅 sometimes avoiding the maps that you’re bad at in x battles can help imo

    No Chase, whenever influencers in splatoon talks about losing, they always neglect the elephant in the room. Remember splatoon is a multiplayer game, it's not chess or go, where your capability is half the reason you lose or win(the other half is your opponents), in splatoon you lose or win depends 87.5% on the match making, who are you opponents and who are your teammates. If you play long enough, you know even if you kill the most die the least and always watch the objective, you can still lose, because one or more of your teammates killed only 1 and died 10 times. I know you guys want to keep the positive attitude and you want to learn and you don't want people say you are blaming others for your own skills, but let's face it, it's really not your fault, Nintendo has the worst match making algo, that's 87.5% the reason why you lose or win, splatoon is a game of luck, not a game of skills.

    • @Chase247
      @Chase247  Год назад +1

      What you said has merit, but it's mostly untrue. If what you said was completely accurate, there wouldn't be players like Jared or Norishio who can consistently get extremely high X powers. Even with trash teammates, they know how to play properly and can still win 95% of their games.
      Not gonna act like matchmaking isn't a key factor, but just blaming your losses on that constantly rather than thinking about how you could be improving is a recipe for, well, not improving.

    • @CantAim00
      @CantAim00 Год назад

      Let me explain to you. @@Chase247
      1. for any kind of sports, what level(let's just use xp ) you can achieve vs how much time you put into it, this is a curve. At first you learn very quickly, say 1 month you get to xp 1500, then for 1 year you get to xp 2200, then for another 2 years, maybe you get to xp 2400, then no matter how hard you try, you would just stuck there. People have different level of talents, it's impossible for everyone to be world champion, because there is only one champion.
      2. Then why play? For fun. How to have fun? For starters you have to play with your rival. If you are xp 2400, xp 1500 is not your rival, xp 3000 is also not your rival. You have to play vs same level players, that way the game would have great uncertainty, you cant know if you would win or lose, that's the fun part. If you are xp2400 and match making put you vs xp 3000, then you 99% would lose, it's just simple statistics.And if you always play games that way, you would quit permanantly, trust me.
      3.Why players like melon can get to xp 4000? well because he is the top player. right now the match making algo is choosing your teammates & opponents similar level as you, but if you are top player then it's just really hard to make everyone same level as you, so you yourself would make your team xp much higher than opponents, that's why he win 95% of the time. if the algo changes and priority be like both team have same xp, so melon play with xp 2000 teammates and opponents xp 2800, he would lose too. trust me.
      4.Now you can see your win of lose is the result of match making algo, not result of your xp level. Knowing this you can still improve, maybe even better, because you won't blame yourself for not doing enough.
      Finally it's just a game, for most of us. A game need to be fun, and the match making is making it less fun.

    • @Chase247
      @Chase247  Год назад +1

      @@CantAim00 I agree the matchmaking isn't good but my point still stands. If you want to improve, you should not just blame the game for the bad matchmaking, because even if it is bad, there is always something that you can be doing better. If the game felt unwinnable because of bad teammates, you think about what you can do to improve and work around it. If you just whine about the bad matchmaking and don't think individually about your play, you will not drastically improve. Every top player will tell you this, because that's where I got this information from.
      Also, what you said at #3 is not necessarily true. The algorithm prioritizes weapon comps over XP. There are plenty of games where Melon's team has less ELO than the other team, and he still wins. Plus, it's not just Melon, the same goes for hundreds of other players who consistently win and get extremely high XP's

    • @CantAim00
      @CantAim00 Год назад

      @@Chase247 "There are plenty of games where Melon's team has less ELO than the other team, and he still wins. ", how did you get this information? S3 stopped displaying team average xp in x rank, I don't think you can get this info without a hack. My point is , no matter your skill level, a good match making should make your win rate around 50%, not more not less, that's the only way to insure every game is a fair game. The fact that someone can have a 90% win rate is already a solid proof that this match making really sucks. At least give people an option to choose, you can play a game with 50% win rate with fair match making, or you can prioritize speed but your win rate would reflect your skill level.

    There is another tip that can also help. Once You reach rank X, anarchy open and anarchy series are meaningless. Players dont get a reward for reaching S+50, their new goal is to reach top 3000, 500, 10 or the 1st place of a mode on the season.
    What i am trying to say is playing and not caring can have positive feedback. I still lose matches in both open and series, but since i am not losing anything but time, i play more calm and relaxed; This is different from fliping the table i dont care, this is just a calm no stakes game. If you are having issues with anarchy series, play open, Turf Wars, Salmon Run or TableTurf.

  • @666Deathscythe

    What really works for me is just to keep calm. It is not guarantee me more winstreak or anything, I could just keep losing and losing but by keeping myself calm, not blaming teammates, not playing while tilted, etc, that made me to not be, at least, the burden on my team. It's ok for me to lose because the point is not to win, but to keep improving myself. My aim usually, "if I'm losing, at least I lose with a fight. Make the enemy team struggle fighting me/my team" and that works wonder for me. The moment I switch my mindset from winning, to just play better, it actually giving me more win.

    Some of us often have goals for seasons in Splatoon. I was ranked S+6 coming into November and I wanted to try to get to S+10 so I would not have to rank up back through S, I had a terrible series yesterday (partially thanks to Scorch Gorge) and that has significantly set me back, and as someone who definitely gets annoying at the game a lot more than I should, it was really frustrating. To be fair, this was probably my best season, but regardless, one thing that helps is just playing a single player or indie game that you enjoy. I find games with really great music or beautiful art to be antedote for these things here. Just taking a couple days off, even if it costs your goals in Splatoon is really refreshing. Just another suggestion.... hope it helps.

This let's you observe your mistakes and then the next time you play you make a mental note to specifically not make those mistakes. It's why I think the replay system is the best addition to Splatoon 3. Most see it as a tool for showing off by making Twitter clips or whatever but it far more valuable for self improvement. What I do to keep myself motivated and enjoying the game is to look for things I did well during a match. Sure, the match went terribly and the other team got over 50% of the map, but I was also the #1 Splatter and turf defender. As a new player, splatting other players is my biggest issue, so I get really excited when I see that I was the #1 or #2 splatter in a game, no matter how the match goes in the end.
    And with every fuck-up, I learn what I should and shouldn't do next time this situation comes around.

    I'm mainly playing turf war and the way teams are made feels really weird.
    Even though I still win from time to time, I'm almost never having a close match. I almost always get completly destroyed, or I'm destroying the opposite team.
    That's pretty frustrating...

    With me it's ALWAYS the same thing, my team does good for most of the match, then in the last 30 seconds it feels like the other team gets auto-aim, invincibility and all stats x100, because during that time we can't even TOUCH them, and they just CRUSH us. Why can't *I* be on that team?

    In the case of ranked salt, I feel like a good idea is to maybe do a less stressful mode, like turf, or a chill story mode level. With those modes, you have less on the line, so it’s less stressful. Of course, what you said still absolutely applies. Feeling agitated? Take a break. Your brain will thank you

    Gem has long had some more frank things to say if your mindset is going sour, so I'll paraphrase them:
    - Your weapon is not holding you back from climbing ranks. Kiver reached top _200_ with Splatoon 2's silver aerospray, so you can, with time, unlock Splatoon 3's X-battles using the tools provided by any weapon kit you want.
    - Your gear is not holding you back. To impersonate a newbie of a fem Inkling in the process of researching Splatoon 2 players' most common weaknesses across each rank, Gem used the starting gear all the way, and he never opened any new slots, changed any ones that became filled, or used ability drinks.
    - The other players, teammates _and_ opponents, are not holding you back. Sometimes your teammates make mistakes, but sometimes you and your opponents do so too. If you are better than all the other players in the lobby, you are (statistically) likely to win more times than you lose. The only thing your losing teams have in common is *you.*

    • @LordSiravant

      So basically it's not your weapons, your gear, or your team that sucks. It's you.

    playing splatoon is training for your mental state lmao. Something i try to remind myself is that loosing doesn't really matter that much in the end. i am a very competitive person so i get fiesty fast. Though if i stop playing after an awful match i'll just feel bad for the rest of the day. I usually play until i get a victory if i realize i am getting frustrated. Luckily it usually doesn't take very long.
    But yeah realizing it isn't the end of the world if you loose definitely helps. In league you miss like 3 points or something and if you loose a few times in the series one you can still move up. and in turf war it really doesn't matter. Oh i also enjoy Salmonrun to play before or after because i never get mad in salmonrun as you're not fighting other people but working together against the game. It's a way more positive experience in my opinion haha.

    My advuce is don't play Anarchy Series. You lose points much faster than Open. If you have a few bad games at S+0, it's very essy to go negative playing series

    • @13_cmi
      @13_cmi Год назад +2

      Anarchy series is much better for me. You just play a few games and either lose or win. No going back and forth with very slow point gain. I’ll do open if I’m not wanting to lose 3 games of clam blitz. But I still usually play clam blitz anyways since it’s fun and gives me the giggles.

    • @SubSpaceKing

      I personally disagree, you could go into Anarchy Open solo, and still get paired against a full squad communicating with each other in a call, putting you at a disadvantage.

    Not going to write a long theists on how to play. Just the experience I have accumulated.
    1: learn the game type
    2: learn the weapon and its/your roll
    3: learn to read not only out opponents moves but your teams moves. This includes the stages you are playing on
    4: always check your map. Doesn't have to be when you are actively on the field. just quick glances when you jump or respawn

  • @tonyfata5151
    @tonyfata5151 Год назад +1

    Another tip I have is to have what I call "Tilt Weapons". These are weapons that you play more because you like the weapon rather than grinding the ranks. For instance, I play mainly frontline weapons like the Tri-slosher Nouveau, but when I feel like I've been losing a lot, I'll pick up a weapon that I really enjoy but I know I would lose with anywhere but turf war, like the Painbrush, Luna Blaster Neo or Heavy Edit Splatling, in my case. After a few games of bullying first-timers (sorry noobs), I'm ready to start again. Turf war is really underrated because people don't play it with the right mindset. If you're playing to have fun, play turf war. If you're playing to rank up, pick Anarchy Series or X rank. If you're experimenting with new weapons that you might try pushing ranks with, do Anarchy Open.
    Great video, Chase! in a way, I kinda needed that. :D
